Why do women use Reddit?

Some people are just generally more into text-based social medias and there is a bunch of interesting and useful communities out there. Reddit also provides a nice structure to the discussion in the comments and it doesn't feel as stressful or time-demanding as discord.

PPD in particular has an interesting mix of folks and it has far higher engagement level than some other subreddits. A common stereotype is that women like discussing dating and relationships, so maybe that's why we're here.

On a person note I use PPD for procrastination and some weird socialization that is outside of my husband, other family or people I teach. I have a lack of communication these days.

For entertainment. I like being walking living breathing proof that rp is bullshit and most people are just living their average lives pretty decently. I also did at first, srsly want to challenge my beliefs and I love psychology so it was an interesting idea to read opinions but I’ve just realized this is a rant space for upset bitter men especially to rage about women. 💀

I’ve read maybe a handful of interesting opinions from men. Lowkey looking for that buzz of something stimulating and vulnerable and intriguing about the male experience. Because it’s actually engaging when men are acting in good faith. But that never rly happens.

I mostly lurk.

Reading the posts made by men here gave me validation, I.e. It made me certain that I made the right decision.

It also serves as a cautionary tale, to remind me there are many unsafe men that I need to avoid, and reading these posts helps me identify them.

I stumbled upon it. I think I was on the dating subreddit, the men there kept talking about how toxic FDS was so I went to check it out for myself, and that led me here. All that aside I studied psychology and sociology, so looking into how people think will always interest me.

Curiosity, interest in modern gender dynamics. Much of my life has been shaped by my relationships with men - for better or worse. I’m doing a life review and trying to put a lot of that experience into perspective. I have an unmarried millennial daughter & I worry about her future in the current dating climate as well.

I've been here for 10+ years now, under one account or another.

I stumbled across TRP and its affiliates in late high school. I grew up in a literal fundamentalist cult, and still had never experienced such blatant and rank misogyny before just out in the open. The manosphere now is fucking tame compared to the shit that was out there circa 2012.

It shocked me, and I naively thought I could prove that women are rational humans just through debate. I quickly realized that RPers rarely argue in good faith. So I let it go, grew up, started a fulfilling career, married a good man, and became happy and content with my life.

But still sometimes I get the urge to peer into the abyss. So I swing by and gape. And then go back to the real world where none of this shit fucking matters.

It started out as morbid curiousity and then I realized that this isn't even a place in which to debate red pill vs blue pill, its a place that centers women in sex and dating in the worst possible light. And if I can argue against misogyny, I happily will and I happily would. Personally I didn't see this as a 'man' subreddit. As it's talking about both genders.

I like reading posts here as I find it interesting and oftentimes amusing because the ideals spouted don't align to my life or that of my family at all. I guess it's like reading the Bible when you're an atheist - some of the things it says are so ridiculous to you, and apparently you're going to hell for not following the rules. And the rules were written by a group of random men many, many years ago.

When I say it doesn't align to my life and experiences; I'm a feminist and I'm in a long term relationship with what the red pill would consider a 'high value man' (has all the magical traits). I roll my eyes at that idea. We're best friends and have been together a long time and don't have the stereotypical issues you read about in relationships, because we communicate with each other like the other is also a whole human being. And importantly, we have empathy.

I also think it's important to be aware of what's being said in these types of subreddits, as people do terrible things based on what's said in these threads. It's why teachers in my country teach about Andrew Tate etc in school. Because of the danger it has to peoples' (mostly womens') safety and rights.

Easy debate topics that are often repeated and don’t take much effort to get involved and waste time with if you have small amounts of free time. Can be fun to argue/participate in drama online when you don’t do it in person.
My personal experiences don’t match with a lot of others’ on here, I’ve never used a dating app and wouldn’t have casual sex etc, so it’s interesting to read about. Some of the studies can also be interesting.
Questions you can answer just due to the fact you’re a woman that often seem like they’re expecting something different than your answer, which makes you more likely to comment and more likely to get replies, than other non-controversial posts.
Ability to read opinions that you wouldn’t have believed anyone had before reading them here, and maybe to share with someone else if it’s that weird/funny. Also feels like knowing the common opinions and facts/topics they bring up could help you spot people with more extremist views elsewhere.
