Let's say your parents still feel love for you but are sick of enabling your bullshit and cut you off financially. The individual who has been cut off feels unloved. Now what?

Same can happen in romantic relationships where a person leaves but still loves their partner while from the partner's view love= ride or die and therefore, in their eyes, the ex no longer loves them.

I don't believe there is ANY unconditional love. Ill start with an obvious point, if my dad got into a coma and woke up with no memory he would no longer love me. Furthermore if I continously acted in a way that endangered my family they would no longer love me.

You might be able to argue a difference between loving someone, and then giving someone ACCESS to your love but I don't believe you can truly love someone and not give them access to your love.

Love SHOULD be conditional because if I get into a relationship my love for someone SHOULD depend on how they treat me. If a woman starts treating me like shit then I will no longer love her. Love is definitely conditional, and it should be.

Love is understanding, if you don't understand someone you cant really love them. So you have to understand yourself in order to unconditionally love yourself.

Parents who aren't very knowledgable about themselves can't offer their children unconditional love.

Once you can unconditionally love yourself, once you've done the work to really understand yourself, your capability to understand others is greatly increased, and with that, your capability to love others.

On the original question: Love is not conditional. When someone turns out to be abusive in some way, you don’t stop loving the person they used to be. In fact, you are so disappointed and so sad BECAUSE you loved the person. If you didn’t love the person, you wouldn’t care what they did. Only someone you care about incredibly strongly is even capable of hurting you that much.

Unconditional love doesn’t always feel like love. Not to anyone: dogs when you have to take something away they’d rather eat. Nor toddlers who stick everything in their mouths. Nor men whose main complaint is that they don’t “get” to behave in a predatory manner toward women.

I think the closest thing to unconditional love, is unconditional love from now on.

Even a child is not loved unconditionally, because there is the condition that you actual be their child. But once it is established that you are their child, then you can do whatever you want and they would still love you no matter what, unconditionally.

The same can happen even without blood relationships. It could just easily have been he called you "da-da" at 5 months old and from that moment on you love him unconditionally, or she gave me her virginity, and so from that moment forward I would love her unconditionally. But I think you could debate that the act of loving and love are different things. I have had various friendships that I've ended over people taking advantage of me, etc. Yet, I think I would say I still love these people, but I stopped giving them love because it was harming me. Yes. Unfortunately, for me it was one-sided. Also I don't often admit this because people will clown you for having "oneitis". On the brightside I wrote lovely poems about it and people were in awe, they said, "how did you imagine such a thing and write it so well? It is so beautiful", to which I said, "I didn't imagine anything, those are my actual feelings."

Thing is, I knew this guy most of my life, we're childhood friends, went to the same kindergarten, primary, everything. He went through phases of being an absolute sweetheart to being an absolute scumbag (manipulative, cruel to women, disrespected him mom, a bunch of messed up shit), still love him to death. He is less of a scumbag now but he decided to terminate our relationship so I don't know how it goes beyond that but I know I still love him and wish him the best.

Sometimes I think I won't ever marry because I'll never feel the same way about another human ever but who knows.

I know people where it wasn't one sided, ended well for them, mostly old people TBH, some young people I saw (only knew one partner), hard to tell really so I can't say of their situation.

I do believe some people have the abilities to have long and loving romantic partnerships (and also a bit of luck to meet a partner that is wired the same way). But I wouldn’t call it unconditional love. If one day their character and the way they act would change in a drastic way the relationship would not be sustainable anymore. Their relationship is strong because some stars aligned and multiple conditions were met-for example they are the type of people that can communicate in a healthy way, they have chemistry, common principles in life and so on.

Set aside love for a moment and I want you to imagine how life would be if we all were involved in unconditional-situations especially that of unconditional-surrender.

Situations where we invoke unconditional-surrender applies psychological-pressure on your enemy..

All love is conditional. We won’t love a cheater or liar. We fall out of love when we are with someone on our level that may change into someone we’re not attracted to. Some parents don’t love their children when they’re not ideal or do icky things. Etc etc. unconditional love is a pipe dream. It was made by desperate people who existed before we had phones or the internet. We realized we don’t have to suck it up and stay with a less than ideal person anymore. And that there really are more fish in the sea. In my opinion, it’s just not natural to stay with someone who doesn’t fulfill our needs or wants. I think that totally okay.

I don’t know. I think most western notions of “unconditional love” is based on extreme infatuation Romeo and Juliet fantasies. There have been a couple of girls, one just 3.5 years ago, that lit my mind up and had me daydreaming on cloud nine. Was it some sort of unreachable thing where they seemed interested, then I moved to slow and they wanted to be friends, but everything I imagined became reality and I was that much more attached as a result? I don’t know. After reading some redpill methods for self improvement 3.5 years ago and getting back in the game I was able to get apart from that extreme fantasy attachment and date and appreciate multiple women each for different reasons. But sometimes I still think about those fantasy girls and sometimes I miss that elated feeling that’s not just sex hormones turning me on. Those feelings were not just physical senses and comfort they were something else in a meta consciousness that I can’t describe now.

I think unconditional love is something you grow into. You can unconditionally love your partner regardless of their situation. For example you fall in love with a man because he is sweet, he also is stable (not rich but holds his own) and because you love these things about him now in your head he is the sexiest man you could image. One day he leaves the house and he gets into an accident leaving him paralyzed. Someone who unconditionally loves that man is not going to leave because of that.. That’s unconditional. Now the exception to the rule is if he’s abusive, or cheats. That’s where the only condition would lay in my opinion.

To me my man can do no wrong, he’s a huge asshole sometimes. Sure we argue whatever, but I legit have told him I’m not leaving your dumb ass so I ain’t gonna argue back. When we are both settled we can discuss. There is no condition to my love for him, he can be broke, he can grow a gut, he can become bald. None of it would change how much I love him, in fact I love him so much I would just try to help him with he situation. But I’m one person and this is only one opinion.

It exists, but it's only healthy when it's parent-child love. Unconditional love exist in friendships and romantic relationships as well, but it's never healthy to love someone else (aside from a child) unconditionally.

I think you are talking about attraction and not love. Love is something built over time IMO. But even then I think you can love someone but not want to wrap your life up with them.

I love my husband more than I know how to explain but if I found of he raped someone, hurt a child beat me up etc, I would leave.

I would be heart broken but he would not be the person I thought he was

It used to, back in the day where it wasn't socially acceptable to cheat and break up families.

I was in that mindset with my ex, till she walked away "looking to live a life she felt she was missing out on" (that 30/40s party lifestyle and openly dating many men)

We were together just over 20 years, and had been through many things together also having 4 kids. I truly felt that way towards her and had blind trust..

Needless to say, i will never be that way again. But it does exist, and can exist.. but it's not built overnight.. and it can be destroyed..

Once you've been hurt by someone while you think you have it all with them. It changes you, and that's why i think people now question if it's even real or possible.

Depends on how you define or conceptualise love. I think once you've grown to love someone and share a love with them to me it's forever. I still love my ex although we aren't together and it's likely no matter what. I wouldn't unconditionally offer him/anyone loyalty, commitment or friendship/relationship.

To me that's why people say it takes more than love to make a relationship work. You can love someone that is bad for you and therefore it's important to always love yourself more than others.
