Someone I’ve known for a while started talking to their ex who is in jail. They never answered the “you are receiving a phone call from x penitentiary” voicemails because they thought it was a scam call. The number had been calling for 5 years. They finally answered and it’s an ex who was arrested for reasons we can’t figure out. The guy never gave my friend his real name so it’s impossible to look up why he’s in jail. I asked my friend why they’re talking to him and they said it’s because “jail is difficult” and they don’t want their ex boyfriend to “feel isolated.”

Men have so much audacity, calling up someone they dated 7 years ago, for 5 straight years hoping to extract some emotional labor because of some BS they got themselves into. Since he’s not being honest about why he’s in jail, I’m inclined to believe it’s because of domestic violence. However my friend always thinks their exes are harmless when they’re emotional vampires to the end.

Update: he’s in jail for trying to sexually assault a minor

Rant. Gratitude. Wanting to share.

I've been single for six years. But I only found FDS last year. Even though I didn't look for anything serious with anyone, because all of them had shitty relationship material, I've had a lot of fwb situations, and still wasted a shit ton of time on OLD.

I didn't want to be picked up for commitment after my abusive relationship. Not because I thought I had value, but because I was terrified of being trapped or "picked".

But I was definitely a major kinkmeisha type of pickme. A fauxminist. I didn't respect my body or how lovely my company was, and put up with, and welcomed, a lot of degrading sex and misogynistic treatment. I "believed" in porn, kink, bdsm, and acted like a porn star for anyone I slept with. I wanted to be "the best sex they'd ever had". So disgusting lol.

FDS has taught me that I'm valuable, HVM exist, my body is holy, my orgasms important, and that I don't need to have a dick distraction available at all times.

I'm so grateful to all of you for being so amazing.

I recently came across not one but 2 women 'voluntarily' wearing rings on their ring fingers - no proposal, no marriage - as a way to show the world that they are committed to their partners. One even went on to say that in her mind she was already married to her partner. These are women who are living in with their boyfriends, have pets with them - I guess that's why there's no marriage no engagement in sight.

I recently took up woodworking as a hobby because it’s been a life long craft I’ve wanted to try. This weekend I was making a cutting board set for my friend who I’ve known since birth and she recently just married. I have to say I’ve never felt so at peace alone in the shop with my classic rock playlist playing and being able to work and make something with my hands. I’ve come to realize that personal hobbies are so important for the self and for fulfillment in life. I honestly couldn’t believe how much time flies when you’re focused on creating something you’re passionate about and love learning more about! So for all those scrotes who can’t believe woman have interesting hobbies. I’m currently taking orders for personalized walnut and oak cutting boards. 💅🏼

Got called a gold digger by a friend this week because I let men (only my boyfriend now) pay for me, give me gifts and treat me. She always pays for herself, and said she hoped I wouldn't treat her "like I treat all of my boyfriends" referring to my previous multi dating, as if I'm a horrible person for not going 50/50 all the time.

On top of this there was a discussion in my sport group (an all female group in our male-dominated sport) where we discussed about creepy men that claim they just want to go for this sport with you and then sexually harass you, makes uncomfortable jokes and advances and how next time we go and a man we know want to come with its fine but we shouldn't open up the group to random guys in the area. Several shared their bad experiences.

And of 12 women 3 left the group saying "I don't group humans as men and women and I like to go with friends nomatter gender, I'm off." So basically I a all female network we got shamed for not cuddling strange men.

Pick-mes and internalised misogyny is all around me this week....

I hope this isn't too controversial, but does anyone else feel like the terms gaslighting, love bombing, narcissist, etc are getting thrown around too much? Abuse is more common than many know, it's true, but sometimes lvm are just lvm. Sometimes selfish men are just selfish. Sometimes jerks who you started the fight /were the mean one/whatever really think that's the truth and aren't trying to manipulate your sanity. Lvm don't need to be Adrian Griffin level manipulative and evil to be lvm or even have abusive ways.

I think often times, people see these new psychological terms and latch onto them because it feels good to use language that makes our arguments and opinions feel stronger. I'm not saying everyone here is misusing them on purpose or anything, but I think we should consider using abuse tactics or disorders as anything we feel like can confuse real victims of them.

And on top of that I've seen and experienced actually abusive people and bullies who have jumped on the bandwagon. My own abuser started telling people I "gaslit" her repeatedly when I dared to ask about her mood swings and how she'd do a 180 on certain topics or shows we mutually used to enjoy. So, keep in mind that bad people are learning this stuff along with us and weaponizing powerful words to shut you down and make YOU feel like the bad guy manipulating them (which is ironically, gaslighting you!).

Yesterday an ex-situationship contacted me through a new IG account. He’d texted me a few months back to check in to see how I was but I ignored it. At this point it’s been a year and a half since we last spoke and I admit that curiosity got the better of me so I accepted his request. I didn’t feel anger or happiness or even a thrill of emotion, it truly felt like some random acquaintance hitting me up.

He asked a few basic questions about how I was doing, etc. of course, his real reason for contacting me was to apologize for how he’d treated me. Again, it’s been a year and a half. I guess this was weighing heavy on him if he felt the need to chase me down after all this time and after I already ignored him? Ridiculous, what possible use could I have for an apology now? It’s ancient history at this point. I very diplomatically told him “I appreciate the sentiment, but I’ve already made my peace with what happened a long time ago.” In my mind this is a very polite way of telling him that I don’t need his fucking apology because he doesn’t hold that power over me.

Anyway, we exchanged a couple more small-talk messages. I left him on read. Then I blocked him. Now that he’s said his piece I can think of no possible reason for him to contact me anymore. That short conversation made me realize that I’m not interested in his life and I certainly don’t want him having a window into mine. Why oh why must they always come back when you’re at your happiest??

I was talking with one of my high school students who graduated a few days ago, and they updated me on their life and how they're dating now and it's their girlfriend's birthday soon. He showed me a photo of his present and a new pair of shoes and socks, a product from lush, two earrings, and another wrapped gift. He'd put all of these in two shoeboxes with some paper hay inside decorated with flowers.

It was so sweet, but now I'm here thinking that I know my boyfriend is not going to do anything near that level for our anniversary lmfao. In all honesty, if he does nothing I am going to dump him.

My ex is annoying me, I just can't wait to move out.

We both work from home and he always cleans up house during working hours. I can't do that during work hours. He cleans up a couple of things, calls it a day and says that I don't contribute with cleaning. At the same time he never cleaned some things in house in entire time we have lived together.

He equals taking trash out or taking dishes out of dishwasher to being more than cleaning all kitchen surfaces.

This is funny, because she has followed many of the FDS principles and that's how she found her seemingly high-value husband. Our mutual acquaintances would talk behind her back how she's "mean to her dates" or "just using men", because she would ditch them as soon as she was no longer feeling it. One guy even sold his car to buy an engagement ring, but she refused the proposal.

I have come to the conclusion I have been wasteful of my time searching endlessly for 'it,' for 'the one.' Y'all, I am it, I am the fucking one. I have been working 12-14 hour days for 3 months non stop. 2 jobs, 18 credit hours with an A in every class, making dinner every night, keeping my house clean, taking care of my cat and plants. Why tf do I ever act like I need a man when I am capable of bringing everything to the table myself?

I'm about to pull myself out of this situationship today. I went to visit this man thinking he was HV. All he wanted was sex despite many times I explained I was uncomfortable. He did nothing to try to woo me. No flowers, no good morning texts, no how are you, but instead a dick pic. He might be a Dr, shit, a good one at that, but that doesn't make him HV. That doesn't make him a decent person or a good partner. And even if it did, I don't fucking need him. I am everything I need and more. I love time spent by myself. I never feel pressured or uncomfortable being by myself, why put myself in a situation where I am for.. What? A man? Senseless. I gave this a try to see if it would go somewhere, but I treat myself far better than he did. So it's back to focusing on me and being my first priority.

Hello! I have a question about the hellish dating apps. I’ve been on different dating apps off and on, mainly due to my location. My issue is, I rarely get asked on dates. If I do, it’s on a coffee “date”, which I decline and suggest something else (if he doesn’t). I am noticing it becoming more and more difficult to keep interest in messaging these guys when I have to do everything. I give up after 2-3 messages and usually get nothing from them. It’s a struggle when a guy doesn’t even want to get to know you enough to have a decent conversation that could lead to something. Maybe it’s just me causing my own issues, lol. The guy I’ve been seeing for the past few months brought over a gift yesterday for me. It’s a Fender guitar amp that’s worth around $1k+. It sounds beautiful. It’s so big and loud, lol, and so many different things to play around with on it. I’ve never had a guitar amp of my own like this before so it’s exciting.

My small guitar amp stopped working recently while I was playing and I called him crying. At the end of our phone call, he told me not to worry because he’d fix it somehow.

I appreciate how he took care of things right away so I could get back to playing my beautiful pink electric guitar. Makes me feel really loved. ❤️

Something very strange happened to me last week. I had a worker give me his employee discount and a free “designer” item (purposely leaving details out bc you never know), and it’s a fucking fake lmaoo. Like I remember him mentioning that it was “really expensive” when he was giving it to me and at that point I hadn’t seen the label. He was being overly nice and a bit intrusive asking me questions about my degree and what I plan to do in the future; this was meant to take 10 minutes max but I was there for about 20 minutes. He knows my number, address, and where I work and I have a feeling he likes me😭😫. Honestly the fake designer thing is really bugging me, why would he think I’d be impressed by that when I didn’t even ask for anything.

The handbook says crushes are pointless, and I completely understand why. It makes no sense to expend energy on a man's possibility when he hasn't proved he brings any value to your life. So I just wanted to know you ladies advice for not crushing during the get to know phase with men?

So far, what I have done to get over my last crush is journal all the ways he was shitty and didn't value me or respect me. I basically made a list of reasons why he sucked, so whenever I think about him positively or "pine" over him (which I was inclined to do before finding this subreddit), I can just think about the list of why he was shitty and override those feelings. This has been super effective, especially with my last crush. I am just worried about future crushes I may develop, especially for men who haven't given me any red flags yet.

I found FDS in October last year. I already feel like I am becoming a stronger woman. In January I told this guy I no longer wanted to hook up with him and he proceeded to ask "what if I miss that peach" 🤢 Blocked. I've been keeping a journal by my laptop with tips and quotes from FDS. I still have two more years of school left and FDS has helped me become more focused than ever. I will not date (AKA put myself in a vulnerable situation) until I finish school, start working, and am able to support myself. I celebrated my 1 year single-versary last Thursday.

I know this sounds lame, but it's been my goal since I broke up with my long term ex to be single for 1 whole year in my adult life.

This is the longest stretch of time I've been single since I was 15 years old. Before my long term ex, I'd only ever go maybe 3 months maximum without being in a relationship. After him, I've done a lot of work on myself, and the longest was 9 months between relationships.

And now, I finally did 1 whole year of being single. And while I would love to find 'the one' to share my life with, I know being single has been so much more amazing than being with the WRONG one.

I do not miss the stress of trying to make things work with a LVM. I've been trying to find reasoning behind why the universe has put me through another shitty situationship (I mean, how many more lessons could I have to learn, right? Haven't I been through enough?) but I have given it meaning myself.

I believe the universe sent him my way to test me and see if I am going to settle for less than I deserve and make excuses for these men, or if I am going to stand strong and let go of anyone who doesn't deserve me and would choose being single over being with someone who won't give me their all - and I stand tall, I stand strong, I choose ME! I'm not settling for anything less than I deserve. I also conducted myself in an amazing way in the whole situationship (Im anxious attachment) and I applied all the things I have learned through therapy, I can honestly say I did NOTHING wrong in the whole situation, and I can come out of it knowing when I do meet someone special I'm ready to be the best partner I can be and I won't settle for less than.

That's what I believe anyway. :)
So happy single-versary to me!

long time lurker, but decided to make a new account to post here without my ex stalking my posts.
I just wanted to say finding this subreddit has been a huge blessing. I'm been dealing with an excruciating breakup with who I thought was not only my best friend since childhood, but ''soulmate''. I don't know what was worse-- finding out he cheated on me with at least 6 different girls, and one he had a year relationship with, or the extreme amount of gaslighting, manipulation, taking credit for my work, isolation, emotional and some physical abuse, and breaking me down to the point I tried to kill myself. I was honestly a broken person, constantly thinking something was wrong with me (he would always compare me to his ex's and call me weird/crazy for not doing x like his ex gfs would. Spoiler, they didn't. Just another one of the many lies.), constantly feeling absolutely worthless, constantly hating every aspect about myself. Finding this subreddit made me emotionally realize the level of manipulation I was getting for *years* and made me feel less alone.

I'm not even close to being healed, who knows how many years that'll be... But realizing this was the biggest first step for me, so thank you to all the posters and mods here. Seriously.

I’m not sure if this is the right space, but I’m desperate to hear from anyone. My (36F) boyfriend (34M) of 7 months just broke up with me (via text message). It completely blindsided me, as he was out to dinner 2 nights ago with my parents and I for our birthdays. My best friend is in Texas, my parents live 2 hours away, and I have no one else in my life so was very dependent on this man and he knew it. I’m completely devastated. I came to the realization that my ex was on interested in the sex. He was friends with almost exclusively women 🚩, and I never got the impression that he was fucking them. However, because of various reasons, I became less affectionate with him and he told me that there was basically no difference between me and his harem (my word not his). So we broke up. Over a month later, and he has not reached out to me once. Guess I wasn’t basically one of his friends and that he was never actually interested in me as a person.

Thank goodness we’re done!

I recently started seeing someone new, it’s been 2 weeks. Green flags all the way. Initiates contact and dates, virtual and in person. Always pays, is big into consent, even for hugging/kissing. Although we have yet to do the latter. Possibly Friday! My hold up is that we met through an OLD site and he is still online quite frequently, but then again so am I, although I’m barely talking to anyone else.

After over a year on FDS (this is my second account thanks to a weirdo from Tinder finding it) and quarantine I don't mentally feel the need to have a relationship anymore. This is a good thing! I could still meet an amazing person for me and accept them but my need for a relationship in and of itself not being there keeps me from sifting through garbage and getting stressed or settling for whatever to have one. Also I have been celibate by choice this year and I feel more whole.
