I've seen both men and women irrationally react to love. In over the top romantic ways and in violent psychotic ways.

Women do give men romantic gestures. There are tons of viral videos of women putting rose pedals on the floor leading up to an gaming console or something that their boyfriend or husband wanted.

People who express love through romantic gestures give their loved ones romantic gestures.

You may not see romantic gestures that women do, because they seem to be more tailored to the individual likes of the man that she's dating (such as buying tickets and planning a trip to a game). Where as men will usually do romantic gestures that are generic movie tropes (such as getting flowers, chocolates, or lighting candles).

Individualized romantic gestures are harder to identify when you don't know the people involved. Generic romantic gestures are easy to identify because there's a culture understanding of what they mean through media.

But they can definitely become more dependent on a woman for emotional support because they’re often lacking a support system from other males. That’s why we often see after a breakup the woman will cry for a while but her friends, mom, sisters, etc. will be there for her and she’ll get back on her feet. The man will go out and get drunk and fuck around but start to spiral if he doesn’t have a solid support system or doesn’t reach out.

I don't really see men blinded by their love of someone. If anything, it's definitely being blinded by lust/thirst, ignoring red flags, and painting an idealized picture of that person in their head. But even then, I don't see it THAT much more often than in women.

I'm not sure that I would define romance as unconditional love.

As for romance, however you define it, one has to remember that is essentially gendered, like many things involving sexual dynamics.

It is typically the male role to initiate romance and romantic actions and events. In doing so he re-enacts and re-affirms the essential act of the relationship which is that he chose her. That she is special and chosen by a man with many choices. This is perhaps a woman's fundamental 'love' need.

In return, she will accept him. She will accede to his choice and re-affirm that he is 'good enough' for her. That's her role.

Of course, there are other more minor romantic moments that are not quite as gendered. But the big ones tend to involve the above dynamic.

So I would say that women are actually more romantic in that these moments are more important to them in an average relationship than they are to the man. She cares more, and her investment in the relationship will suffer more if these romantic gestures are not done regularly.

Now, if you want to define romance some other, less functional way, then I'm not sure.

Eh, I've seen both.

My last two bfs have been extremely thoughtful and romantic. Current bf knows the date we first met, remembers things I like and likes bringing me round little gifts to make me smile every other day.

But I've also seen my mum in tears because my dad forgot her birthday (yet again) I've seen women stand by complete arseholes and cheaters because 'they love him' and I myself am guilty of standing by a man who would frequently get extremely drunk/high on the weekends and force me to essentially be his carer.

Sometimes there's push-pull and some people are naturally more tolerant than others. I don't think its gendered though.

There’s probably some truth to the saying “men are romantics pretending to be realists, women are realists pretending to be romantics.” And it’s probably a result of how we’ve evolved. Women have to be pragmatic due to the intense investment in child bearing and raising, but it’s our sensitivity and nurturing that attracts men to us LT. Men could in theory run around having sex with and falling in love with any woman who will have them but that isn’t practical for their investment of resources nor is it ideal for their offspring.

None of this means women don’t love. It just means that women have more to lose.

It’s expressed differently, too. The man I’m dating doesn’t have time to buy me gifts very often, but he will buy me anything that I ask for or give me the money to. Every couple of months he will go all out and get me something that I need.

Last month he bought me a car, today I am going to get lasik eye surgery. He is paying for both and handled all the arrangements.

So we're going to take on the characteristics that are more attractive to the opposite sex. I read a study (i can find the link if anyone is interested) that showed when the amount of suitable mates drops the one with the higher numbers will lean more towards the ideals of the sex with the lower numbers. I don't disagree that, in a very generalized way, men are more idealistic in terms of romance while women are more pragmatic. That being said, it's a bit more complicated than that IMO.

First, men are far more likely to be "romantic" when it's really just infatuation (or can even border on obsession). This isn't "love" and it's not particularly deep, despite it probably feeling very intense at the time. Example: when I was in college a boy from one of my gen ed classes came up to me after class one day and handed me a poem he wrote about me. It was a beautiful poem. On face value, this would be called romantic or a grand romantic gesture. However, this wasn't love. It was infatuation: we didn't know each other, we had never met before, I didn't even realize he was in my class (it was a class of about 100 people).

Second, men can be very much romantics in the early phases of a relationship (or prior to just sex even) but that tends to drop off dramatically down the road. Men who keep up the romance certainly do exist (and probably have better relationships and sex because of it) but for the majority? It tends to stop (unless or until they feel they might lose the relationship, then they might ramp it up again).

This phenomena again tends to show romance from men is more tied to infatuation/lust then it is to "love".

Third, men may take the cake on overt "romantic gestures", but there is plenty that women in relationships long-term do that one could see as romantic in the sense that they convey true love and passion. They just might not be as obvious or might not be acknowledged or recognized by the men recieving them (and that also goes vice-versa for women tbh).

Edit: oh and I don't agree men love unconditionally - that's a myth, neither women nor men do that except maybe for their own children.

My therapist (she is a female in her 30s) told me that she believes men love deeper, get more attached and generally are more invested. Also, it’s statistically said that men take far longer to move on after being broken up with.

My therapists theory is this; women grow up searching for romance in every corner and so inevitably they find it many times and it becomes less of a novelty. No, both men and women feel EXACTLY the same emotions.

They are just amplified by characteristics of the male female brain, and the context upon which they are experienced varying dependent on the individuals situation which is often determined by their sex.

Let me explain.

Men feel intense attraction more often than women and know how to handle it less due to scarcity being more prelevant in males.

Women feel it less because they have more options. Women who do feel intense attraction act CRAZIER and less rational and are more inclined to "love" scumbags blindly because they are not as introspective as men and less self aware.

Romanticizing this mandate and flattering themselves with the moral high ground doesn't mean #ThePinkPill doesn't touch the life of every woman alive. Men modulate their treatment of women BASED ON APPEARANCE. The only "unconditional" here is dedication to move mountains at the will of their dicks.

I have had times when I saw how girls chose who to love very pragmatically. It was unsettling how calculative women could be while men seemed to lose themselves to their feelings.

God, I love BASED women. You know what else is unsettling?

The ease of which men physically harm or cheat on women they "love unconditionally". Men codified disloyalty with The Red Pill, they excuse the degeneracy of men blaming WOMEN for not "choosing better" and you got chills over female pragmatism?

Pragmatism is amongst the only tools women have dealing with the male sex. Every dummy who signs up for the "50/50" scam, every pick-me that uses her female position to excuse low value behavior and reward it with pussy, every woman letting men pitch the pity into her panties always results in her (and other women) paying for it.

This is why you are seeing the rise of female communities online, not only on Reddit, with the resurgence of discourse demanding pragmatism. Because when women give men the benefit of the doubt, they pay for it dearly.

If you want your view changed, just logically think through what happens to women who choose poorly or trust too soon.

Then add to the fact that we are all groomed to please men and cater our every life action to the BENEFIT of men. From charm to support to sex to faking incompetence just to allow the male to feel pride and validation all in the name of love. Women are super romantic with the men they love and go above and beyond as a rule.

The barrier to entry doesn't mean women are less romantic. It means they understand survival.

Women can't afford to act as thoughtlessly as men and their so called "romantic love".

This is obvious. Men love idealistically while women love conditionally. This is how hypergamy works. Also, the vast majority of love poems and songs were written by men.
