I've never heard of women talking about a cut off salary, most just want someone that matches their own income so they won't have to take care of someone. I graduated school at 22 and made 54k as a nurse and that was considered low for my area. If you get your masters at 24 you can make 80+ easily. The job I'm about to move into pays 65k. So by your standards if I wanted an equal I'd have to date the top 1% of guys my age? I think women who are high earners want guys who are high earners, but I see that as just wanting a peer. I want someone who matches my intellect and maturity as well.

I feel like this place would be better off of the age gap debate was permanently retired. The extreme age gaps, 20 years, are pretty rare but they do happen when the money is right. We all look at those relationships and know exactly what’s going on, if you will. So those people have to deal with that social stigma.

However, there is a high level of dishonesty that exists around this conversation. Meaning, there are plenty of relationships with 4-10 year age gaps where both parties are getting what they want so I think it’s a waste of time for Reddit to be so angry about those.

It's what's interesting to me how some people in one breath say women love conversation and a man who makes them feel a certain but then turn around and say older man-younger woman isn't genuine and it must be about money. But what does the older man who's not we'll have most likely still have over a younger man? Life experience and years of experience with women. His experiences make him more interesting than the younger man and he probably has more incite on how to make a woman feel desired and appreciated. So saying women are looking for deep connections but also saying older man-younger woman can't be genuine is a contradiction.

I don’t know a single woman in my circles/my family’s/my school/work/area who’s dating a rich man above their league. I do however, have a dozen coworkers dragging the weight of an unemployment bf who can’t even take care of their own kid when they’re home all day. My one friend from childhood was dating a pedophile while she was in school, but not because he’s as rich. In fact, they live with his mom in a trailer and he sort of does doordash occasionally, and now she’s freaking out because she has no job or life experience and is realizing she was groomed by a broke, tantrum throwing loser who can’t even take care of himself much less her. But every other woman I know who wasn’t groomed as a child is NOT depending on a man for support.

In fact men are mad that women are so independent and can support themselves without needing their money. It’s usually the broke dudes most upset about this, but the fact is average women just want an equal partner, not an unemployed video game addict to have to take care of. The fact that men think that standard is so unreachable is…quite sad.

Hello, 22 y/o man here who makes in that 80k - 100k range. I think we should also consider that young men who do make that amount of money either work in places where that amount won't go far such as large cities, or in my case extremely rural / highly dangerous positions.

That lower age range of men often have to work in situations that take us off the greater market, making us seem even more scarce.

My dad was 13 years older than my mom and he raked in $13k a month, which is a lot more than most make, especially where we live in redneck, hick, yeehaw-ville, and in the 90's early 2000's. It was really nice growing up as an only child with money. But he passed away when I was 16, and the death of a husband/father is very debilitating to a family. It fucks everyone up. This is why I could not marry such an older man, because I want a husband who can be with me when we're both old, and both enjoy our grandkids. I don't want my future kids to experience what I experienced.

I don't hate on age gap couples at all, especially married ones. Because I get it. I'm just concerned for women when the older man doesn't seem genuine with his intentions, like looking for sex only, the woman more than likely is seeking commitment. I don't like older men who come at me looking for sex, I can tell right away which ones are genuine and which ones aren't. Some other women can't and I feel bad for them.
