Your spouse quickly jumps out of the container. But after him/her a copy of him/her jumps out of it too. And then another. And another.... And another. You start pressing buttons to stop the machine and then throw things at it to make it stop. You eventually succeed, but still end up with 10 copies of your husband/wife. They are all confused and all claim to be the real one. They seem to all have the same body and same mind. You know that your husband/wife is madly in love and treasures you more than their own life, and you see how they desperately start to cry as they come to the realization that they are many copies and you are only one and they might lose you... They all look at you terrified with big begging lovey-dovey teary eyes waiting for your decision.

What would you do?

My wife and I were walking through the California redwoods and saw a bunch of squirrels.

I used to follow the work by this Dr Aubrey de Grey. Then I heard about these accusations, I was like damn this guy is obviously guilty. Position of power, girls who are known in the field spoke up, pattern of abuse, so the guy is obviously in the wrong.

Then I dig deeper and only 2 girls have come forward and the accusations are about inappropriate flirting. Nothing physical, no flashing. The guy said stuff that was totally inappropriate. They have evidence of an email but I trust the girls who said it happens often. But if he was a "predator" he would have acted on these words.

I read his reply post, and comments by friends and now feel confused. It just feels like such a hard time to get justice. He could be using his power and influence to get people to support him, our instinct is to go after the powerful person as guilty before proven in a court of law. This tendency means that people are punished without due process. So anyway I was wondering what you all think?

He is put on leave, do you think the investigation will be fair? will we get the truth? can we go with the "innocent until proven guilty" paradigm even when the accused is rich/powerful?

CMV: The death penalty should stay. But we should make two changes.

1) Make the burden of proof to put someone on death row higher. Maybe for instance, they need to be found guilty in two separate, independent trials, making it less likely an innocent person is convicted. Or maybe the burden of proof in a single trial must be higher.

2) Once they are sentenced to death, none of this "on death row for the past 17 years bullshit." Actually perform the sentence. That way the state doesn't keep wasting taxpayer dollars on the guy.

The liberal ideals, free speech/leftist economics paradox

When I speak of free speech in the above context, I am not reffering to what is enshrined in the first amendment of the US constitution, I am reffering to the general concept which both predates and extends past the confines of what is inscribed in law.

I watched a video a year or so ago in which some SJW was talking how "she" would do the job of doxxing people that said things she didnt like online, finding out their jobs and getting them fired. "She" said she did these because she wanted these beliefs to be economically infeasible.

Now I think you can predict where im going with this based upon the title. Leftist economics in general exist with one, if not the main goal, of empowering the worker. Not only that, but in its more potent forms giving each individual the guarentee of having their basic necessities met.

With both of these things, it creates an atmosphere where these people who were previously coerced into silence with the threat of losing their livelihood, logically would start shedding those fears.

The disincentive for lets be honest, in this current climate, speech which runs counter to liberal ideology, or at worst, speech which is in any way critical of it, is lessened. The further left we go economically the less disincentive for believers of wrongthink, who already currently quietly hold these ideas, to publically espouse them. The weight of the big stick of financial terrorism wielded by screeching purple haired banshees that is hovering above the heads of dissidents slowly melts away in their hands, and of their own doing.

It is in such economic system that socially unpopular opinions are given the greatest potential to fester out in the open. Leftist economics mixed with american speech protections create a breeding ground for radical speech.

I guess in that perspective it makes sense why you already see so called liberals cheering on the supression of free speech on a sublegal level and some also looking to narrow protections on a legal level as well.
