No one goes from a 4 to 9 with makeup. Makeup so heavy it changes your bone structure only works in pictures. In real life these people look like drag queens.

If a guy wore light daily makeup like most women (ie tinted moisturizer, brows, etc) I wouldn’t care. This adds +1 to peoples looks at most. If he wears heavy makeup I would not date him but neither do I.

I don’t wear makeup at all. I would think it’s a little weird that he wanted to wear makeup. I can understand if it’s just filling in eyebrow’s or something small, but a face full of makeup would be a turn off.

Actors, models, athletes, presenters, singers, musicians... they all wear makeup and are men.

Now seeing my man doing his "Adam Lambert" makeup routine would turn me off.

But seeing my man taking care of his nails, hair and skin would turn me on.

The male equivalent for this is beards. Most men shave their beard and still look fine, just like most women don’t really wear enough makeup to look that different without. There will always be those catfishy people who are contouring magicians, or hiding a weak chin under a beard, but it’s kind of silly to act like this the case for all women who wear makeup or all men who have beards, when it’s just not. Like my bf looks a bit boyish without his beard but still handsome. I look more tired without my makeup, but he still finds me attractive and often compliments me on how I look natural. And also when I’m “full glam.” I’ve also done his makeup for fun, and he looked hot, like a rockstar. Not an everyday look for him, but fun.

Peoples looks are variable, and you can’t base a relationship on that alone. Of course looks matter and you want to date someone you find attractive, but no matter how hot your partner is, sometimes they will look shitty. They will get older. Their weight will fluctuate, at least to some extent. They will be sick sometimes. They will be glammed-up and looking their best sometimes, and not others. This is life.

Well, I'd be impressed at his skills at special effects makeup. That probably took hours and lots of money. In most cases I wouldn't be able to tell so it's not going to bother me exactly, but I think makeup in general is usually a pretty useless thing to do.

I would be weirded out if my guy wore as much makeup as me.

I wear makeup every day, not Instagram style, but enough to notice “this woman is wearing makeup”.

I do admit to playfully forcing my husband into some of my grooming habits, like trimming his eyebrows and using a body scrub, but I wouldn’t like it if his routine was anywhere closer to mine.

Sometimes he will use my mascara to fill in his beard “where it doesn’t connect” (whatever that means lol) but I don’t notice.

I’d be incredibly fascinated. It’s a weird dichotomy because on the one hand I’m pretty low-maintenance and have to work to overcome my inherent disinterest in elaborate time-consuming beauty rituals, but on the other hand makeup can be an amazingly expressive artistic pursuit and also dudes in eyeliner gain at least +10 in attractiveness.

I’m used to men in entertainment where literally everyone wears make-up, so don’t mind it at all. Haven’t seen anyone go from 9 to a 4 tho..

I put on lip color sometimes and that's generally it. I don't have an issue with men who wear light makeup to cover blemishes, and I enjoy artistic eye makeup, but I've never come cross a man who only wore lip color. Everyday full face makeup is probably out. No matter how natural anyone's makeup looks, up close it's always detectable to me. Texture isn't something you can truly hide when you don't have control of lighting, and a lot of "subtle" natural looks on camera look like shit in real life when observed from all angles. Extremely garish insta baddie makeup isn't something I like on anyone, regardless of gender.

i don’t really like makeup in the first place besides eyeshadow. i just don’t think i’d be very attracted to a man wearing a lot of makeup in the first place because the way foundation and contouring looks on peoples faces kinda freaks me out. you can very clearly tell when someone has makeup on and when they don’t. i don’t think it’s a dupe when women wear a lot of makeup because it’s so obvious and i don’t think the intention is to “trick” anyone, same goes for men who wear makeup.

the issue lies with a beauty standard that tells us we must attain perfect and use makeup to cover out imperfections.

The thing about makeup is that it enhances femininity. Makeup adds to feminine features that are already there: large eyes, pink cheeks, full/red lips, long eyelashes.

Considering that 1) what makes a man attractive (to hetero women, which is the group this question is presumably aimed at) is generally masculine features, and

2) the only makeup that could MAYBE make a man “more attractive” is contouring, and

3) that might give him 1 extra point (so going from a 4 to a 5, not a 4 to a 9) I’d say the possibility of this happening is next to zero.

I think the equivalent would be if he was wearing lifts and stuffed socks in his pants lol.

I think the biggest issue for men is that they do not understand makeup. at all. Makeup, even natural looks, people who wear makeup regularly can tell that they are wearing makeup. I know how makeup works and I've never, ever been surprised by someone taking it off.

No person that's attractive with makeup can be unattractive when it's taken off, simply cause normal makeup doesnt actually change your features. Sure you can contour, make your skin look cleaner, darken your lashes etc. but in the end it's still the same person.

Basically I do not see any difference from makeup to other forms of dressing up. If you see a woman in a stunning dress, you think she looks amazing. Same woman -dress +sweatpants, she's still the same person. which one is her natural state? Where do we draw the line? Same goes for dudes.

As much makeup as me personally or as much makeup as a woman who works a client facing job? Because I very rarely wear it and honestly not a whole lot would change beyond photos of special occasions having roughly twice as many people wearing makeup in them lol.

Regardless I think men wearing makeup should be completely acceptable outside of acting/modeling. It can be a great confidence booster and shouldn’t be restricted based on arbitrary gender norms.

As for your actual example, any man who could take themselves up 5 points using makeup has my respect. I’m honestly terrible at it and would want them to either teach me their ways or just do my makeup for me lol

Depends on how they wear it. Men in entertainment already wear makeup (concealer, foundation, sometimes contouring). The current makeup trend amongst women is more natural than 6 years ago so I wouldn't care if average guys covered up their acne /acne scars, and contoured their jawline (just make sure they use setting spray so it doesn't rub off on my outfit lol).

Women online wear much more than the average girl on the daily as the camera either washes it out or highlights every flaw in more detail than the naked eye. Me and the girls I hang out with don't even wear it daily (to uni).

Skincare sales are through the roof in comparison to makeup and idk any girl that would complain about their man having a routine

I’m not sure exactly how much of a transformation a guy would go under but I’ll be happy to see it. I don’t think it’ll go from a 4 to a 9 though. Maybe two steps up as make up can accentuate and flatter parts that are good and cover blemishes and flaws.

I wouldn’t mind as long as it’s not the outlier case where it was that dramatic. If my man wants to give himself a little boost on the night out I’d appreciate the effort he took similar to wearing a nice outfit. Doesn’t mean I’ll get mad if he decides to lounge in his boxers and beaters once we are together

I have heard of couples where a guy shaving his beard caused issues as beard is pretty much jaw contouring for me. Weak chin? Grow a beard!
