You'd have to better define "hindered". I'm 5'8" and women at that height and taller have shown little interest in me. However, there are plenty of women shorter than that, and I've dated two women who were 5'6". I think that a guy who is short is usually going to be able to date women shorter than him if he has other attractive qualities going for him.

Assuming we are talking about western english speaking nations like USA, UK and Canada:

5'8 starts to become a noticeable problem, with every inch below that making it a lot more difficult.

Anything over 6'5. There is such a thing as too tall, but a man won't reach too tall with most women until he's like 6'6 or more, and very few men are that tall. Even then, there will still be a decent number of women who love it. I don't know any women who love a 5'3 man. And height has been shown to have a positive correlation on income for a man - the taller you are, generally the more you earn. There's many benefits to being taller as a man, it's no wonder men obsess over it so much.

I'd say anything under 5'10 gets a penalty. That doesn't mean he's completely fucked but I think there is a decent chunk of women that view under 5'10 as too short to date. IIRC for 5'8.5 its 45% of women so basically you lose almost half of the dating pool for being slightly under average. For the women who aren't setting their height filters at over 6'0, over 5'10 is going to be the most common fallback imo.
5'10 to 5'11 seems mostly neutral. You'll be acceptable to most women but your height still wont be preferred or independently attractive or a selling feature.
6'0 to 6'4 is positive and what most women prefer. It is a selling feature/independently attractive where it adds to your overall value.
I think returns on height become diminishing at 6'5 and up. That said there are some women who do prefer that height and the demand exceeds the supply in the sense that the number of women who prefer 6'5 and up is greater than the number of men that are that height. So even if it isn't ideal from a mass appeal perspective its still beneficial to fit a niche.

Location matters. In the US, under 5'11 I believe there is a very tangible and palpable drop off in a man's potential pool of women who may be attracted to him. Put that guy in Norway, and 5'11" guy might as well be 5'. He's a shrimp. So, US 5'11". Mexico, 5'6", South America, 5'9", Philippines I'd say 5'6". Please guys chime in for your countries ( France, Italy, UK ).
Whatever the median male height is for his country, adjusted for age range from 18-50 .
I'd argue 10% taller than the median mentioned above.
After a certain height I think height becomes a negative. Off the top math, maybe more than 33% taller than the median height mentioned may be freakishly tall?

Based on US and some EU metropolitan cities:

1) 5'7" and below

2) 5'8"- 5'11"

3) 6'0- 6'4" or 6'2"-6'6" with good proportions and athletic frame. Anecdotally, 6'4 to 6'6" is a bit of a polarizing range but a lot of women REALLY like really tall men beyond 6'0" so probably cancels out the effect of shorter women that wouldn't consider themselves a good fit.

4) With a good frame probably above 6'7"-6'8" unless top athlete, but at that point it could still be positively used for peacocking unlike being too short or fat.

Honestly, outside online dating, it's not as much of a hindrance as much as people think.

It's also very much dependent on where you live.

I live in the Northeast and this is arguably the least "heightist" region in the U.S. partly because Jews and Italians run shit out here and they're generally shorter than the average White American so the stigma isn't big out here.

I see men who are shorter than average(like 5'5-5'8) in relationships, marriages, and with kids all the time. I live in a majority Hispanic city now in the metro area(Elizabeth, NJ) and I see "short" Colombian, Salvadoran, Puerto Rican, Dominican, Mexican, Peruvian, etc. men with women and kids all the time. There's also a big Haitian community here and Haitians tend to be shorter than Black Americans and they also tend to be in lots of relationships and have big families.

Overall, I'll say height is the most important to White Americans outside the Northeast and Northern Europeans(British, Irish, Scandinavians, Germans, Dutch, etc.). And many on Reddit happen to fall into these 2 categories which is why there's such a huge focus on it.

Other groups, though, are more flexible when it comes to height.

To answer your question directly, though, I'd say a man who's 5'4 and under will objectively struggle the most because that's shorter than many women and very few adult men are statistically that height so you will stand out big time.

As a side note on 3, I am 5’9 and have had women tell me I’m tall. This was pre online dating though or they could have been just trying to build me up. At my height I’ve been able to date very easily and have never encountered someone saying I was too short. about 5'4, here. Get in shape, dress well, have a good career, have confidence, be funny and you're going to literally DESTROY all competition regardless of height. Women would prefer to be with a short guy with everything going on than a 6'4 broke slob.

Until I got married I has zero problems landing women that were significantly taller than me and people regularly comment that they forget my height due to other factors.

Men are hung up on this WAY more than women are purely because largely it's the only thing they may potentially have going for them.

I’m gonna be controversial on this sub and say that as a South Asian, being 5’10 has actually been a positive for me. I’ve been called tall on occasion. Maybe it’s because people expect Indians to be short??

I mean if you’re a white dude and 5’10 I do feel sorry for you because your dads are probably all like 5’8 at least so something must have gone wrong genetically.

My dad was legit 5’5 so it’s a miracle I made it to this height.

I, personally, haven't dated someone under 6'1 in over 3 years. I have made exceptions for rich (and exceptionally hot) guys who are 5"11 or 5"10 but I wasn't viscerally attracted to them as much as the guys who are 6'1+... take that with whatever grain of salt you want to take it with.

It's just a personal preference of mine. In my inbox, I suppose this means any guy under 5"10 no matter how rich or hot, is "hindered"?

In a lot of cases it depends on so many other factors and variables. What is the height of the woman he’s after? How important is height to her? What type of self esteem/confidence does she have? What other traits does he have that she may values? (His sense of humor? Easy to talk to? Does she value his type of intelligence? Kindness? Income/career? Educational level? Is he handsome? Physically fit? Skillful/talented? Do they share similar values?). Even those factors can be further broken down and nuanced. And how do we define what a hindrance even is? A short but handsome/fit guy may get rejected at the same rate a tall but ugly guy does. This is too complex to give definitive answers.

If they're going for someone who cares about height, they'll probably be good if they're 5'10 but say that they're 6'0. Let's be honest unless you were close to 6'0 yourself, you wouldn't know the difference between 5'10 and 6'0 anyways. Under 5’8”, but maybe not exactly 5’8”. I’m 172 cm most of the day, but I wake at 173. When I consider other factors, it seems that 5’9” morning height men (175.5) with all else equivalent have it substantially easier than I do.

People also think I’m shorter than I am because I have a big head, but I think that this actually plays out in my favor much of the time. However, having a huge head like I do while ALSO being 5’9” would be groundbreaking for me, and being the height I was always predicted to become, 5’11”, would make life laughably easy. I can imagine that my first year in college would have gone way different with another 3.5 inches

No - You've barely ever met any individuals that are 6'6'' or over, and a lot of them that are, are physically hindered. Attractive 6'4''+ men are very unlikely to be in any of your social circles. My view on women is that if you have an 8'11'' physically fit guy that doesn't have like a huge head or crooked legs, just a normally proportioned 8'11'' guy, but then you put him in competition with an 11'7'' guy who is normally proportioned, she's going to choose the 11'7'' guy.

However, with all that said for #4, I do believe that returns diminish strongly past 6'3'', partially because only 1/50 guys are 6'3'' or above.

It's a competitive marketplace. The "80/20 rule" is really more like 95/5 now, or 100/5 (All women would like a top tier man, don't kid yourselves). Thus something that would technically be average and thus not a hinderance is actually a problem. Again, competitive marketplace as not being perfect is a strike against you.

So technically anything under 6'2" is a hinderance, even though 5'10" is the average height and there's nothing actually wrong with you there.

5'8 - 5'11 since most men are around this range and are bigger than most women at this height but not noticeably shorter than 6'0" if you're built and not comparing height

It feels like the standard is going up all the time, I used to hear 5'6" being the minimum and 5'10" being tall, now anything under 5'8" is short and the minimum consideration for being tall went from 6', to 6'2", to 6'3" and now to 6'4" and because it's really about being the biggest man in the room there is no ceiling for height. As average height keeps going up due to wealth (I've seen 5'2" mexican immigrants have 6'2" kids, and lots of Chinese and Indians of average stature having 6'2"+ kids as well) it seems like it will keep increasing
