Yes/no/maybe.

I'll be honest I've not super hard pursued that much

All of my relationships have been with either acquaintances or friends of friends. Women who've been in social circles and have found me attractive. Then they've typically dropped hints that they're into me or flirted some.

With my ex I was actually interested in a different girl at the time, but she was quite forward with her interest.

But even with what is some heavy handed flirting from women, I've had to pick that up and then pursue from there.

(Although my wife did initiate sex the first time. Hmmm)

With a guy it was quite different. I got to sit back a lot more.

With the guy it was opposite. It wasn't like I was cold. I was more like "hmmm. I'm not sure. I've not been with a guy in that way before".

Which is like catnip for some gay men (he admitted after he had a "straight or straight acting fetish")

Overall though I haven't dated a massive amount. I have a habit of ending up in LTRs and staying in them. But the bit of dating experience I have gives me some perspective.

Overall I admit I've been pretty lucky though. I am kind of adorable though so I get why (and slightly narcissistic...). But other people seem to have a much harder time than I ever did 😬

Maybe the difference between men and women for me has been soft pursue VS hard pursue?

Did he chase you or vice versa?

I'm not sure if it was chasing (social cues might be off I had a very isolated childhood) but we both had immediate interest in one another and in many ways it was a bit of blind dating online. He knew what I looked like but had no idea what he looked like, but he had a great sense of humor, was down to earth, gave me tips on how to play Doom 3 when I got it on Steam, was the first person outside of family(dad and sister) that I felt comfortable and safe with.

Is there are reason why you were interested in the experiences of either side & did you have any thoughts?

More or less wondering how people come to believe in absolutes here or immediately try to pigeonhole others. Hell even I don't like doing the latter but it's hard to not feel like writing the men and women here off as woefully broken, and cruel.

Oh I see.

I don't know. As I said in the other thread. I quite like some of the people here. Some more than others of course. I'm one of the more 'well adjusted' members of the sub (or at least I like to think so). I'm not massively into absolutes and I have argued against both men and women on this sub on various issues.

A lot of people here are moderates. Or have fairly complex sets of views. I like how this is a place where there is a decent amount of actually getting out of views on the table.

It does require some amount of a rough skin though.

A lot of people here aren't necessarily cruel. But they can be defensive. There is also a lot more bluntness compared to other places. But I quite like some of that. It feel like we actually get into the weeds on topics instead of just playing nice and pretending we agree. (Which TBH can breed a whole different set of toxicity beneath the surface)

The one lady I seem to always be bumping into here is seems really nice and I'm still getting a feel for the others. She gave me a few pointers on which people were more or less easy to debate without both sides devolving into a slap fight lol.

There's definitely a lot of views on said table and a lot of people struggling to grasp them, which I understand but at the same time don't because a lot of the language here tends to be alien to me.

But do they appreciate when other people are blunt here? Some of the members here seem to come in expecting everyone better have a thick skin and be able to handle onslaughts, but if you're blunt back or can dish it out better than they can take it they suddenly act offended. I get the defensiveness but the notes of paranoia is a major obstacle.

One game he would get gently annoyed at me playing was Skyrim but only because I kept giving my characters complex backstories😊.

Bit of a sad ending, despite all of those great qualities(wasn't a player, or distant or mistreated me) and sweet moments my ex uhh had a fetish he didn't disclose to me. Didn't find out anything was out of the ordinary until he confessed that he had cheated on me with one of his 1st cousins. And this was a completely normal guy not a "player" as some here would think. So that was a complete shock but one I eventually got over it despite the cost of the relationship, that was actually painful because at the time my thinking was "Most cheaters are players or party sluts so best to avoid those" and look how that panned out :/. I've met someone new who was in a similar boat; his ex cheated and it hadn't been too long since he proposed if I'm not mistaken, it's a young relationship so we're not leaping to conclusions but there is a definite spark and kinship between us. There's a deep understanding of the betrayal we experienced but not letting that define us as people or as a couple.

Sounds awesome to me! I'm civil but I can sound a bit dead pan in text, so I tend to sound angry or sarcastic sometimes (I'm not just tired some days lol).

When I was 12 or so I decided to get my ears pierced. My mom had been wanting me to do it for like 3 years at that point but I was too scared. Finally I asked for her to take me for my birthday. So she took me to a place in the mall and my cousin went with us. The entire way there I was nervous and my mom and cousin were reassuring me how it doesn't hurt at all and it only takes a second, etc. etc. So I sat in the chair and as soon as the lady got the gun out my mom said "I have to go" and handed my cousin the money to pay for it. After it was over we found my mom sitting on a bench holding her head in her hands. She said she had to go splash water on her face and sit down because she thought she was going to pass out. For YEARS she begged me to get my ears pierced and told me about what a nothingburger it is and then once I finally did she couldn't watch it. lol

This woman gave birth to three kids with no epidural because she was too afraid of the needle.

Time to trigger men and actually be a bitch for once. Sorry for the harshness here, but it's my perspective.

When men have a struggle that's very extreme, I am skeptical. My husband works with inmates, and he was warned on first day of work that one of the last people in his position was driven to suicide by a female inmate. My humanity and my sympathy just weren't there the way one might expect. I struggle to understand: What could possibly be so bad? Aren't people in this position supposed to have limited access to inmates anyway? Don't you all have legal insurance? Is this man really the victim, and not the perpetrator? I'm not even angry at men, it's just a matter of life experience and seeing possible red flags sometimes. I'm not going to request further police investigation or anything on a dead man... but it's shady. Also, it bothers me the way this information was presented. My husband told me "they say I should watch out for those female inmates, they can really cause emotional and social damage!" Uhh sure there can be consequences when you abuse them. None of y'all are psychiatrists, you do a routine and simple job. I'm a pretty smart woman, and I don't see what these prison women could do to some tangential random man without legitimate ammunition. I could be wrong about the guy, but my questions stand.

If your husband commits suicide will you also suspect he did something wrong and wasn't the victim?

Massively higher rate of suicide compared to the general population:

The average suicide rate for MADOC corrections officers over this period was approximately 105 per 100,000 –a rate that is at least seven times higher than the national suicide rate (14 per 100,000), and almost 12 times higher than the suicide rate for the state of Massachusetts (nine per 100,000).

It doesn't seem like the rate of suicide is related to the gender of the person involved either

The officers who had died between 2010 and 2015 included both men and women, roughly proportional to their representation in the workforce (which is male dominated).

I think this "he must have been doing something shady and covering it up" is just nuts. He could have genuinely been bullied. If he also had other mental health issues it may have been the thing to push him over the edge.

It seems like a stressful job to me TBH. I'd rather not have to deal with prisoners on a daily basis. Male or female.

And furthermore, yes if my husband did this I would think it was an admission of guilt. I have been nothing but here for him, and we have a peaceful and happy life. He has every opportunity to improve his career path, he enjoys his hobby, we work on life together. If he was disturbed but couldn't tell me anything that an inmate did which was illegal and punsihed- if he didn't file orders of protection against an inmate before coming home and acting psychologically unhinged- that would be terrifying. We've gone round and round about that sort of behavior before, and it's bad enough. But to end his whole life about it with no explanation to his wife? That's all but an admission of guilt- take it from someone who has enough life experience with this man that I would know. Perhaps that's why I'm so hard on this other poor, deceased man, but there are protective measures and checks and balances set up for a reason. I would sooner belive that somebody was caught red handed and avoiding punishment than believe that somebody was framed by a prisoner with no way out. That goes double for my husband, to answer your question.

It's like you didn't read a word I said. I said I would suspect him IF I HEARD HE DID THIS OVER ANOTHER WOMAN and also at the same time HE DID NOT SHARE A SIDE WITH ME OTHER THAN "SOMEONE WAS MEAN TO ME" and also at the same time HE TOOK AN EXTREME SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM WITHOUT TRYING SOMETHING MORE APPROPRIATE. Kinda like the man in this case did as far as I know, yes that would be very suspicious. Maybe if I write in caps you will comprehend?

The point in having me as a wife regardless of how "feminist" I am, I imagine, is that I encourage my husband to share his side and to pursue solutions to problems that make sense. We are both functional adults who are there for each other. He is not on medication, he is not mentally unstable, and there is no reason for him to harm himself. Of course I would rethink some things if he did that. According to this case specifically, it seems like the trail leads to this prisoner, so that's where I would suspect foul behavior. I would probably get more details, but if I was married to the guy Red Flag No. 1 suggestong guilt would be that I didn't already have the details. Don't you get that point? It's not even a man/woman thing, but yes in this case it happens to be a man that's making bold and unproven claims against a woman while taking extreme measures.

Struggling with mental health would leave a trail of multiple jobs, medications, etc. By extreme in this case, I don't just mean utterly tragic, I mean it sounds like the man went from 0 to Unalive due to 1 inmate. This wasn't framed as a mental health issue, and on FDS it has been theorized recently that some of these male suicides may also not all be mental health issues. Why is it that men commit murder-suicide so much more than women, for example? In 2022, we all have equal access to mental health help. Not that this one case really proves anything, but since you say it's documented you should hear the possible counterargument.

How are YOU so convinced? Have you heard a man's side in a situation like this? I mean... I guess it's possible that he was manipulated into accepting consensual relations while on the job and she was going to frame him for assault. That's still breaking regulations and the guy would get fired, but he wouldn't deserve to go to jail. I'm just not sure how that would be possible during business hours in a place full of cameras when the guy isn't even a guard. That's one disadvantage I have being a total outsider from the facility trying to understand it.

I don't think men can't be victims. I think I hear a lot of extreme stories where men specifically play the victim but questions arise just like in this case. Men's stories often don't add up fully whereas women's stories are usually pretty believable, common, and mainstream. Take, for example, TERPer men who say "Oh therapy is for weak women" while at the same time saying "nobody supports men's mental and emotional health." Like bro, literally no one is stopping getting therapy. If you tell me you are drowning and you refuse therapy because some entity is stopping you, that just doesn't make sense. Other men do therapy all the time. The year is 2022 now. Yet men play the victim like this all the time. If course there are times when men are the victim, but these lame stories are usually not it. I know a red flag when I hear one, and soemtimes people lie. Women, too, but God with men it is so transparent and they will directly act like I'm supposed to do something about it. Sorry, there's nothing I can do about your hangups on therapy or about your opinion on female prisoners. I'd still rather work at the female prison, and I'm still not gonna put up with your mental dysfunction.

Women experience internal processes and changes to their bodies that are profound to them, most notably child birth. Whereas the only changes we experience are, firstly, puberty, which tends to make you look like shit and sometimes screws your voice up completely. And when you get an erection, which is pretty much this unending itch that you can never satisfactorily scratch.

There is nothing magical or life affirming about having a male body, and then you spend most of your time getting rejected by the opposite sex; that's if you're lucky. Where men get it wrong, in my opinion, is believing that if they changed the external appearance of their body then it would make a big difference. Yes, if you became extraordinarily attractive, but this isn't possible for everyone, even if you don't have to cope with the reality of trying to make enough money to prosper, or at least survive.

And then, at the end of the day, most women prefer babies and children to us anyway. There are advantages to being male, but there is no reason for us to love our own bodies or identify with being male as being some positive aspect of existence. Largely, we're unappreciated, undervalued, and even unneeded.

Men are capable of that, but don't focus on it. We don't hate our bodies; our bodies are just . . . there.

Our bodies are instruments, both to ourselves and to women. And a mark of a man's success is how many women they can get. That's difficult, and that which is rare and difficult is what is valued. So to get more attention from women would make us feel more positive.

I think - I guess? - that it has to do with what tangible results our bodies get. As men, we have to go from reality - we recognize that our opinion of our own body only goes so far. We get treated differently by others depending on our bodies, whether or not we're positive about ourselves. It doesn't matter how positive I am if my body doesn't get me dates and a good job. Reality wins, not me. And reality lives outside of my mind, so accepting reality and figuring out how to deal with it is a priority over feeling positivity on the inside. Whereas the women of the body positivity movement are ignoring reality in some ways.

Right, so when we look at TRP as a basic concept we can see it plays out in enough of the population to be pertinent and so shatters the bluepill ideas of women are wonderful type effect a lot of men grew up with, it explains why women are like they are and what they are attracted too and makes you realize that women are acting in their own selfish interests just like men do.

You then realize that men's and women's wants are different, and that is why the old oppressive ways came about like they did as they needed to control men's and women's natural instincts to make society work.

Now that has been broken we see more and more fighting between the genders as neither are getting what they want (whether natural instincts or social norms) and so you end up with places like FDS or TRP's current look.

Of course every scientific progression has been backed initially by a minority, unfortunately the people who are in the minority on COVID vaccinations are using conclusions from studies that are easily debunked. The problem comes when they still propagate that belief even when the evidence is inconclusive or proven to not be convincing. The guy who spread the "Vaccines cause autism" conspiracy theory was a doctor who was disproven many times yet still propagated that misinformation campaign.

One of the guys literally was one of the few who created mrna I'd say his opinion holds some weight.

Both the sexually selective impulse (comparing men to other men) and the hypergamous impulse (comparing men to herself) are pretty generalized on a biological level, IMO. So they can manifest differently in different cultures.

But they are going to value male accomplishment based on what is instrumentally valued by the culture in terms of how it pushes a man up or down the overall dominance hierarchy. I believe that in certain European Jewish cultures, women worked and top men were all about studying Torah. This was a source of immense status and really did a lot to determine a man's true standing in the community. Thus, in these circumstances, being good at Torah could get you the best women.

So if our culture truly started esteeming men based on how good they were as fathers, in a way that showed and produced tangible deference to the best fathers, then being a great dad would help to satisfy hypergamy. Right now, we don't do that. It's more lip service.

I'm of two minds about this one.

Obviously the guy is a goober ass mama's boy and I don't buy for a minute that he was shocked when his mom showed up. She somehow knows exactly where the cabin is, obviously because he told her, but he had no idea she was coming? My guess is that he told her about the trip, she invited herself and he was too chicken shit to say no but also knew his wife would be mad so he didn't say anything to her.

But, this part stood out to me.

When I said this he argued back that all he wants to do is be able to fuck his wife whenever without me trying to make a big production out of everything.

It sounds like he the dude just wants some regular intimacy with his wife but she's the type who needs it to be perfect and romantic every time. So I have sympathy for the guy here too. He's still an idiot and I understand why the wife was pissed and left but clearly there are issues here that one weekend getaway wasn't going to fix.

The school tested boychild's IQ; 130. They're saying we should enroll him in the gifted program. I was in the gifted program, but I have mixed feelings on it. On one hand I appreciated being cloistered with same skill peers from genpop school, we got to study more interesting topics at a quicker pace and have a degree of autonomy regarding our curriculum.

However on the other hand accelerated learning gave me crippling imposter syndrome, glossed over my autism, and fostered/encouraged an annoying intellectual superiority complex (seemingly at odds with imposter syndrome, I concurrently believed I didn't deserve my spot yet I was innately smarter than genpop kids).

Man, I dunno. He's 6 years old but he can read middle grade novels and does long division for fun. I don't want him turning into a smug asshat/STEMbro with a complex, nor do I want him disengaged and languishing in genpop education.

That’s what we had too, a few hours once a week, when I was in school. In middle school they had honors classes, which continued in high school. We didn’t have a special school. But school districts vary. For us now, we opted to have him do one morning a week of special stuff but stay in his normal school.

To be honest, the proliferation of magnet and charter schools takes away a lot of the arguments against gifted schools just because people are already sorting and filtering their kids into artificial environments. I live in an overwhelmingly white neighborhood and 95% of my kid’s school is non-white. People are already kind of going Brave New World by another name. And public schools are tapping into that parental mania for “choice” by trying to give them rarefied environments so they won’t pull their kids and put them into private schools.

My kid's the same (just tested as well!). I'm also going through the same questions. Gifted programs tend to have smaller classes, which is a huge plus. Also, I've noticed when my kid is bored he acts out in class more. They started giving him higher-level stuff in class and it's been better. That said, a separate school entirely would be sectioning him off with a group of very similar people, which might have detrimental effects on his mindset/socialization, all the ones you listed. Plus, extra pressure.

I was in honors classes (that was our equivalent of gifted) and loved them. But I went to a terrible high school, and honors was probably "remedial elite private school curriculum" level (we didn't have separate schools for gifted). The pros of an honors program are also that the kids there may be more motivated, and there's less peer pressure to appear to hate learning (that was extremely prevalent at my school). This will depend on the environment. If it's a great school, things will be different.

Yeah. Well, not necessarily psychotic. My take was pretty out there, and probably not entirely true. Just floating it. That said, it is quite possible that there is an innate female tendency to care less about the the lower tier men they were going to reject anyways.

The other things is anger and vengeance. This is a natural human emotion and not necessarily psychosis. Given the narrative that has been accepted with respect to the historical oppression of women, it wouldn't surprise me if a lot of women are, on a subconscious level, not really ready for the notion of helping men. To them, not only has equality not yet been achieved, but men haven't begun to do their penance. Men should be punished for a while for all they have did. Whatever the right punishment, and whatever the right duration, we clearly are not there yet in many women's minds. Or at least so the hypothesis would go.

Is that a female tendency or a human tendency? Would you care for a porn star who spends her free time gooning the same way you care for a high tier women? I doubt most men could, and here's why: help is available to most people. Doing better is available to most people. If limited resources like time and money are going to be spent somewhere, I think we are all smart to bet on a strong horse, or at least not the weakest of the weak. We all know that endless additional resources shouldn't be immediately spent ok someone who has yet to use whay they have. Mental help is more politically and socially accepted than ever in the US, though I admit funding/the economy is becoming a worse impediment to receiving care. People can at least try to help themselves soemtimes, and results are much better when that happens.

This is true to an extent, both in modern day and historically. Rarely has a man has helped me, and I take note of it. I take note that women reciprocate much more to me. I take note when male colleagues get in my way more often than women. I am of the opinion from experience that full equality, in fact, hasn't been reached. I have my cognitive biases agaisnt men. I always make an effort to reserve judgment and I have sympathy when it is deserved, but when something happens to a man I'm automatically more skeptical.

I'm not "angry" towards men who haven't earned it yet, per se, but I am skeptical and slow to help. If a man on the side of the road asks ME to get out of the car to help him, that's a red flag and I'm running the other way. I read a comment on FDS that said sowmthing like "rarely do you hear about men committing their disproportionate and successful suicides after 10 years of hard work and therapy," and I honestly felt that even though I'm about to be downvoted. When men have a struggle that's so extreme, I am skeptical. My husband works with inmates, and he was warned on first day of work that one of the last people in his position was driven to suicide by a female inmate. My humanity and my sympathy just weren't there the way one might expect. I struggle to understand: What could possibly be so bad? Aren't people in this position supposed to have limited access to inmates anyway? Don't you all have legal insurance? Is this man really the victim, and not the perpetrator? I'm not even angry, it's just a matter of life experience and seeing possible red flags sometimes. I'm not going to request further police investigation or anything on a dead man... but it's shady. Also, it bothers me the way this information was presented. My husband told me "they say I should watch out for those female inmates, they can really cause emotional and social damage!" Uhh sure there can be consequences when you abuse them. None of y'all are psychiatrists, you do a routine and simple job. I'm a pretty smart woman, and I don't see what these prison women could do without legitimate ammunition.

Overall, I'd say this is all more evidence, to me at least, of the fact that all of our downstream thinking and solutions are still fatally tainted by the fact that Western culture still hasn't really had a good hashing out, at the highest level, of what gender truly means. I'm not saying everyone is gonna completely agree and we will come to this perfect understanding that will become the uncontested common narrative. These things take time. But we aren't even talking about the real issues, or asking the real questions.

I see your point about the top of the pyramid having a general lack of concern for the bottom. This may be true, but I do believe there are some natural gender asymmetries at play, as well. The idea that 'men must become; women can be' still carries weight deep in our collective consciousness, routed in the historically important fact that all wombs have some value. I'm not even sure we want to try to disabuse ourselves of this notion--there's still truth to it, on many levels. But we should admit to it.

Also, women do seem to have more of a collective sense of solidarity than men. Also something deeply rooted, and also something that is ultimately probably natural and for the good. But again, good to admit it and try to adjust for it when needed.

Part of it's the movies/media. Guy has meaningless, empty sex with lots of vapid women but something's missing. Cut to a scene of a hot blonde asleep in bed and him staring soulfully out the window. I do think that a lot of natalists are shit. People do kind of get in their bubble and expect everything to turn out OK, ironically not unlike what you are doing when you're placing looks as some top priority and when you're placing genetic defects as THAT unlikely. Parenting is more complicated than any one or even any several issues. Also not all ugly people are unhappy. Life is more nuanced than you think it is. With that said, no I don't think that having children with a high risk for struggling in life physically or otherwise is a good idea. Natalists are often shit.

What do women offer in a relationship? There is so much effort that men have to put in, but women put in the bare minimum and the discussions about dating always puts the responsibility of being better on the man.

I remember doing OLD when I was a high school drop out. Then I graduated college and my options increased.

The thing is those girls were beneath me. I know that remark will trigger the women, but if you can say men aren’t good enough why can’t I say women aren’t good enough for me?

So let’s say I become the perfect man. I’m in the gym multiple times a week. I have a graduate degree. I’m making a good salary. I’m organized and responsible. I have a healthy social life and a good relationship with my family. I volunteer and give back to my community.

And I’m really expected to commit to a woman with a bachelors degree in communications making 30k a year who spends her money on door dash and plays animal crossing and shit like that.

I think the amount of effort that men have to put in to be attractive entitles them to spin plates because at that point the women you’re seeing aren’t good enough for you

you know what, just for shits and giggles ima say what i bring to the table. because i think aside from a few things, i’m pretty average.

typically a 5. on a really good day, i can probably bring my looks up to a 7 depending on subjective interests as i’m not everyone’s cup of tea. I am sincere, loyal, and passionate. I have the ability to mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, and financially support my S/O. I have a bachelors and plan on furthering my education. I make equivalent if not significantly more than most men in my age bracket. I have a small networth. (Not debt free but technically I have more than I owe so I could pay it off if I wanted to). I can do all domestic duties. I can put together furniture. I can fix things around the house. I plan to bear my husbands name and 2-3 children. I can plan things. Communication, empathy, feminine energy, and problem solving abilities. Selfless, i actively volunteer. I have a solid group of friends, maybe not perfect “HVW” but i adore them. an amazing family filled with healthy marriages and full of communication and laughter. A healthy lifestyle. Flirty and fun, always positive & optimistic. Keeps the energy light but i definitely give people their fair share of shit and keeps people on their toes. i’m romantic, I’m not a bad lover. (; and i cater to my man’s needs. and i’m sure there’s much more i can say haha.

honestly i think aside from my education and financial stability, and maybe the looks & healthy lifestyle. i think most women offer about the same. because AWALT. but anyone can list amazing things about themselves and not talk about the faults.
