As a woman who tried age gaps: dating within 0-5 years of your age is FAR more ideal than anything 5+. That doesn't mean age gap relationships are all bad or unwanted, though.

People closer to your age are almost ways more attractive than people who are older than you, unless you're maybe on the younger side (like maybe a 27 year old looking good to a 21 year old. But even that is uncommon.)

Age gaps are not the norm. Most women prefer to date people closer to their age unless they're heavily prioritizing resources, novelty, or are the rare person who is actually into age gaps themselves.

These are two separate things and don't really make a point. Whether men are disgusted with promiscuous women or not is independent from whether or not women like older men. In religious societies, sich as in the Middle East for instance, promoscuity is frowned upon but many marriages got large age gaps in large due to the man's status (aquired over time). But yes, in the US, dependent early 20s women in college and such are less likely to date men over 30 but that's also in large part because they're in an insular environment among peers where drunk frathletes got high-earning, well-traveled, and in-shape men with prestige jobs and charisma don't (yet).

But as young women mature out of the post-college phase (faster than men) and integrate into broader communities they may find men over 30 attractive especially, if they stay in shape, since they are, on average, overall more impressive and have greater status society-wide. This is especially true in larger cities where I haven't really heard of, say, a 28-year-old woman complaining about a 38-year-old guy hitting on them unless he was unattractive or she was against age gaps on principle (or insecurity). It may not be that woman's preference, and 10 years might be too big of a difference for many, but dating a a woman 5-10 years younger isn't a difficult task compared to regular dating in bigger cities, and seems to probably be easier for men in their 30s.

In general, I agree that gals look for a guy a couple of years older than them. But it's not like all get the ick of older man. When I worked at a small Korean restaurant (all personnel was Korean, except for me) in the U.S. the 5 gals that cycled as servers there felt attracted to me, some more than the others, one that wasn't that pretty but otherwise pretty sexy REALLY attracted, and they were from 18 to 24, I was 30 or 31. I mean... that is your experience. I think both of these views are silly. There are enough men who are in a completely outside the pill universe and have never learned that men find promiscuous women unattractive, and consequently they do not do so. Likewise, there is probably a preponderance of women who find "older" men unattractive, but I assure you that there are enough women willing to date a decade+ older to make it a realistic "goal" to work towards, even when not factoring in rich white guys chasing skirt in third world countries. Is it the majority? Probably not. But I have seen enough 20s/30s and 20s/40s pairings, and women fawning over shockingly older men, to know that aiming for a 20-something gf at 40+ is not as outlandish as aiming to become a billionaire or fly to space. It's rare, yes, but it's a social phenomenon. As a man, yes, you will eventually age out of it (I think late 40s, early 50s is when that happens), but 30s and early 40s, you won't have a problem.

Now, that is just my experience, and so it might not be enough to convince anyone. Just putting it out there

I briefly dated a much younger woman once. She was a knockout. Truly stunning. She hit on me while I was bartending, and I gladly and foolishly took the bait. She was 21 to my almost 30. Some lady pounds on my door one morning when this girl was staying over for the entire night for the first time. The lady said she was her mom, that this girl was 18 and still in highschool, and that she wanted her to come home now or she was calling the police. Apparently she had a fake ID from her big sister, and had never even given me her real name. Oh my fucking god. I felt sick to my stomach. “She’s what? How old? What?!?” When her mom saw my face she softened a bit and actually apologized to me for the deception of her now crying, yelling daughter. “Why do you have to ruin everything, mom? Just leave me here! I’m fine! He’s got me! Fuck off and go home to your asshole boyfriend!” I told her to get her things and get out, and apologized profusely to her mother, who didn’t really want to hear it. I wanted to puke.

I had definitely been deceived and used, but it was the fact that this kid should’ve been in highschool that made me want to vomit. Be careful, fellas. They lie just like we do, but they’re way better at it, and guess who gets in trouble? Not them.

Lastly- As far as power imbalances go, I don’t think the narrative I keep seeing here is how things always go. I wish the ladies would take just a friggin smidge of accountability- most of the age difference relationships I’ve seen have been a pretty young thing using and draining a sucker of an older man. Yes, there are old pervs and pedos out there, but that’s not what’s usually going on. I don’t mean that in reference to my own misstep either. Older guys have more money, and some girls want that more than anything else, and use them for it. Seen it a dozen times. If you want to know who the victim is, look for the empty wallet.

Depends on what data you are looking at. Some material I have seen suggests that around 8% of couples involve a 10+ age difference. That's not exactly a small number, that's almost 10% AKA almost 1/10. People are more willing to date someone who is much older, some research suggests.

Also, this isn't even considering cultural differences either. Did I also mention those in relationships with a higher age gaps may actually be happier too?

As a man, I am open to dating a whole range of ages. I would like to have biological children, so I am biased to younger women. But there are women who are in their 30's who are healthy, so I am open regardless.

Your second clause requires more nuance -- sure, at 18-20, girls are looking within their own pool. They don't give a shit about wealth or power, since within their circles, looks and social group status are usually what matters most.

Tons of women over 25 tend not to give a shit anymore -- anyone whose over 30 and fits the bill (usually meets a looks threshold) will do the trick.

Certainly, as the TRP Master Blaster of Age Gap Dating - I [M55] spend some time stuffin' young muffins [F22, F22] late last month - I completely agree that the overwhelming majority of women do not want to age gap date.

There are three groups of women:

A. Women who want to date a man near their age, and everything else is 'grody' or whatever the kids say. This is 50% of women minimum.

B. Women who will date the right older man. Like a guy who looks like the young Harrison Ford, who, while in his 30s, was tapping 19 year old Carrie Fisher on the set of Star Wars. But other than that, they want was the first group wants. This is probably another 35-40% of women.

C. Those women that actively prefer an older lover. This is 5-10% of women and usually "older" is 10-12 years.

Anyone who thinks that Joe Fat Couch Potato is going to roll up into the Alpha Phi house at Alabama or Ole Miss and have his pick is delusional.

That said and older man who stays in shape and is successful and understands game can do quite well.
