You'd still have to work because nonsense like health insurance/any health problems would make your principal disappear in a hurry. Not to mention inflation. I'm still expected on paper to live like 35-40 more years. Inflation averages like 2.5% a year (and more recently, quite a bit more) - that $1m might as well be $100k near the time I die. Luxury money? Sure. But lifestyle changing? Hardly.
