There's something going on, but it's not really something I can easily break down. There's a lot going on right now. A lot of people are anxious and a lot of social skills have deteriorated over the last few years, and that was already becoming the case before that when covid accelerated the problem.

People can tell themselves they're happy alone but it's not just dating, people are increasingly atomized and reporting mental issues that result from increasingly common bad situations.

We have an antagonistic culture where every race, religion and increasingly the sexes and all sorts of immutable characteristics are being leveraged against the working class in order to aggravate their frustrations with poor wages, working conditions, etc. and then redirect those frustrations onto your neighbors or family in order to prevent class consciousness

As the average person grows more and more addicted to social media echo chambers, hateful and angry groups looking to vent, becomes more invested in their particular identity, they view everyone outside of their tribe to be a potential enemy and cooperation becomes impossible. Instead of having dialogue, discussion becomes a game of war where both sides are trying to dominate one another verbally, by abusing others and going to one’s own echo chamber for validation, etc.

Our economic situation is absolutely fucked, our societies have nearly stagnated technologically in our most important industries like energy production, our legal systems are completely compromised by corporate finance and everyone is feeling more and more stress and anger because of it. In order to prevent rebellion, you must divide and conquer.

These people you talk about and MGTOWs are reacting haphazardly to these environmental issues and are choosing to Lay Flat in a sense (a Chinese concept which has you do as little as you can, hoping the system collapses). They pull themselves out of an increasingly toxic society where social media glorifies and boosts us sending death threats, making false accusations, doxxing, anything and everything you can do to beat your “ideological opposition”. These people have internalised that anger and harmed themselves with it, in large part.

You can try to blame it on capitalism but authoritarians of all stripes have been using these sorts of distractions to ensure their political survival for thousands of years. These are the same problems every society has faced since our species began to settle down and establish cities and nations.

Personally I would much rather just be single than be with someone im not attracted to and who isn’t a good partner either. Then once you get wrapped up in the cocoon of singleness, it’s a lot of effort to get back out there and date again

No it's definitely because it's easier. All families need two incomes. Women don't want to work 40 hours a week and then do 95% of the household labour because some podcast told men that women should serve and please them simply because they are men. When men become emotional dependants and create household work for thier wives, women stop being attracted to them anyway. There are multiple studies done on this. The women lose attraction to the men because they come to be viewed more as a burden or a child than a husband. Household labour is not a gender role, it's basic life skills. So yes, women find it easier to live alone than to be someone's bangmaid. I don't really understand the thinking of the manosphere. They simultaneously want women to not be "golddiggers" but keep them so swamped with household chores that they can't find the time to work enough. And if those chores are not done, socially it's the women who get blamed and ostracized if anyone sees the state of the home, that's a lot of pressure. Manosphere wants women to make money, but not more than him. Manosphere refuses to take care of a woman but expect to be fully taken care of. So yes women are confused and find it easier to just stay out of it.

In my opinion, it’s common knowledge it’s better to be single than be with someone you’re not compatible with or have no feelings for, essentially settling. It’s not a bad thing to have high standards. There’s almost 8 billion people on this planet, and the sad cat lady stereotype is over-generalized.

I think women are choosing to be single because they realize there’s more to life than finding their Prince Charming. We are getting an education, we’re becoming more driven, we’re focusing on our own personal ambitions, careers and aspirations. There’s nothing inherently wrong about that.

The issue I have with MGTOW is that rarely is it the actual situation of “men going their own way.” Women are still the face of their discussions. Why? If they were truly going their own way, they need to release their resentment towards the opposite sex and truly work on themselves. Exercise, eat better, focus on their personal goals and ambitions, go to therapy, meet friends, find a community, learn new skills or hobbies, etc. Stop obsessing over women, what women are doing or why women are doing what they do.

Additionally, the redpill and manosphere ideologies tend to dehumanize and contribute to the mistreatment of women as whole. It perpetuates these hateful ideologies and violence against women, and it essentially becomes a hopeless echochamber of resentful men circlejerking a major victim mentality. And yes, before anyone comes at me, the same applies to niche extremist misandrist groups as well.

It's a good question, I'm sure the answers vary but for me i had no sex/relationships until after 30 because of

fear of negative consequences if dating went badly (ie I read things wrong, got over invested and was dumped)
low sex drive
lots of hobbies
no ""biological clock"" or interest in having kids
growing up seeing an unhappy stay at home mom who wanted a divorce and thinking actual relationships must not be that great

A relationship sounded nice and the experience of falling in love with someone was definitely of interest to me. But I was skeptical that things like that actually happened and figured most people exaggerated the benefits and longevity of romantic relationships, or that I'd just absorbed some over-idealized dream of romance from TV shows and books.

I wanted freedom to do my hobbies and didn't wanna get trapped like my mom in what looked like a 13-18 year contractual homemaker role. And I was scared to get rejected.

So there was like 20% of me that was lonely, curious and really wanted to date, but 80% was a weird mix of content with single life, scared to fail, and reluctant to get trapped in a bad situation.

I would say I wasn't totally fulfilled but I def wasn't miserable. It helped that none of my self image was wrapped up in having sex or kids or a partner by a certain time in life so I figured 'hey if I wanna get with a guy when I'm 50 it'll still be an option, nothing lost right?' (it helps that women are probably less stigmatized for being inexperienced at older ages than men so can wait longer tho -- that is unfair for guys :( )

Im happy to be in a relationship now that is far exceeding all of my low expectations lol. But also glad to not have rushed in because learning how to enjoy your own life and take care of yourself is awesome.

I think you are right to wonder if people would really rather not have something that-- by all accounts-- is supposed to be great! I think the cost/benefit breakdown just really does vary a lot person to person.

In a way, of course it's easier (and better) to be single than working hard to be with people that make us unhappy.

There are tons of people (men and women) that glory in hardship. They call you a baby is you ask for better work conditions, they call you soft if you choose jobs away from the sun. They call you names if you prioritize happiness over money, happiness over other people, and happiness over toxicity.

Between a cat lady that you assume is sad and a man that spits out negativity towards the other sex, I as a man, would rather be the cat lady.

While it's not going to always be kittens and roses it should not be a burden, a constant source of stress, a full-time job.

It should be something that builds up the people in it, a place of solace for them, a place of encouragement, a place that overall is good, beneficial not just to the woman (if there is a woman involved) but to all parties.

A relationship is optional. It should build everyone involved up, not tear them down.

People have more choices than they used to. You can have a credit card in your name, get a lease, get a job as a single woman. You don't have to be forced into a marriage as often anymore (though sadly this still happens some of the time). If women had the choice back then, many of them would have been single.

Ultimately it's about the people (whether women or not) who want to pair up doing so. And those who don't (or who don't at certain times in their life), doing so as well.

For the average woman being single is easier and less work.

Marriage is often a net negative for women. Women are expected to work and contribute like men now while still doing the majority of childcare, housework and mental load. Women in LTR's also bear the emotional brunt of relationships. This is on top of maintaining her looks while doing all of this because she is judged more for not maintaining them.

Men just need to contribute 50% financially and barely do anything else.

I meet couples frequently where they both work full time at good jobs and the woman is friendly, interesting, organized, emotionally supportive while doing most of the housework and childcare to a man who doesn't have these traits.

They are sort of correct that it is easier - it's easier to not engage socially or to put effort (even if it's only a little) into relationships, especially if you no longer face any social serious social or material consequences for opting out. However single women largely aren't happy, most people are always going to feel a "pull" towards partnering up (for social conformity reasons or biological ones or whatever). The same conditions that make it easier to be single also produces neurotic unhappy people addicted to endorphin cycles through electronics/drugs/whatever in preference to engaging in "regular" romantic socializing. Modern women and men play both the role of guard and inmate in their own little social prisons.

As far as relationships being some huge amount of effort that only makes sense if the reward is high enough, this is largely a fiction. Dating does not take much effort - at the point where you move in together or are having kids yes that takes some substantial effort to keep things happy. But just dating at all? That's very light on effort unless your partner (usually the woman let's be honest) is making a lot of demands in planning dates or whatever.

There are 3 main components to this if you believe the RP.

Women no longer need the BB side of the equation: They have successful careers and can provide for themselves.
Women can fulfill the AF side of the equation at the press of a button using dating apps.
Birth control/abortion/child support/scientific advancements in fertility mean that women have all of the authority and none of the responsibility in sex/pregnancy. There's no longer anything in society that prohibits or discourages casual sex.

Knowing these three things, why wouldn't women find it easier and be happier being single? I can only speak for my self and my experience. I'm happy single, maybe one day I meet someone that makes me want to be in a relationship. I think I like being single because I was very unhappy in my last relationship, we were together for a long time and we just grew apart. When we broke up I felt so much better and I like being single. I'll need to have a really strong feelings for someone to change my relationship status.

My friends that are single are mostly happy as well, some were in abusive relationship and it took them a long time to get out. They seem to think like me, if we meet someone we fall for, great, if we don't, also great. So I guess we're open to the possibility. I have one friend that is actively looking to be in a relationship, they never work out, she goes on a few dates and then it's done.

And even then, entering into a romantic partnership is a huge risk and potential liability. Almost no one (although there are *some*) is happy being single. That's just coping.

Women remain single for many reasons, a few of which are:

1) Women are more career successful than before, and generally won't "date down" that way so their pool is smaller
2) Woman tend not to realize there is a difference between SMV and MMV. They have high MMV and are able to attract quality guys for sex. But because their MMV isn't as high, they can't lock the guys down. So they misjudge their value and think guys are assholes.
3) Lack of cultural production means that many, many men remain as children throughout adulthood, and so the number of suitable male partners is drastically decreased

If more women are choosing to be single than men, it is because it's easier. Let's admit the obvious: any woman can get attention on demand. Shit quality attention usually, but that's better than no attention at all. I doubt many women can fathom the soul crushing loneliness that so many men are enduring today.

Growing up, the dream of making something of myself and then building a family of my own was a primary motivator. Simply because I'm from another generation (genX) it was way more obtainable and I succeeded. But I really feel for the men who are sort of drifting and purposeless today. Basically invisible and ignored by society. I don't know how they can go on like that. I feel for the women who are struggling and in pain, although it is more difficult for me to comprehend their challenges.

It would benefit both men and women if they tried harder to understand each others' point of view. Choosing to be single and live out the rest of your days alone can't be the best answer.

Women choosing to be single is a unique phenomenon in history and a luxury. They often forget they exist in a society built by men, protected by men, and upheld by men. A lot of women just sort of assume things will keep working indefinitely no matter how much we shit on and rip up the social contract.

Because those extremists are obsessed and fixated on women. That's all they talk about and the general tone and discussions are violent. Men who actually enjoy a life without romance or sex aren't represented in those spaces, they are out doing their jobs and hobbies and enjoying time with family and friends.
