Does anyone else see the problem? As a societal issue is this something that needs to be addressed?

It's a problem for the men who don't get degrees since it tends to a) limit their earning potential b) is a huge mark against them with lots of women with bourgeoise aspirations. Of course men who meet a partner early or are successful enough (i.e. trades or small business owners) financially can still succeed with a subset of women.

The West will likely reach a point in the not too distant future where it can no long sustain handing people huge loans to go to university or a bunch of superfluous office workers/administrators where a lot of college graduates end up.

If I remember correctly educated people (both men and women) have lower divorce rates than people without higher education, so I'm really not sure about the last claim.

Not sure why you see women being educated and having control over their lives as a bad thing.

I’m in my 40s now and have seen a lot of couples marry have children then divorce, the biggest reason I have seen is after children the husband seems to think everything becomes the wife’s job, weather she works or not.

Maybe if men didn’t act like over grown children there would be less divorces

Women aren’t outnumbering men in the top universities. Women are more like to take up work like teaching, nursing, social work that requires a degrees where as a lot of similarly smart men are getting trade certificates.

Men are not being left behind a lot of women graduate college into lower paying careers. You can still get a good job as a man going the tech/ trade route.

Part of the problem now is even lower paying entry level jobs want to pay you next to nothing and demand a graduate degree. And good working class jobs at factories like grandpa had are not unionized and do not pay well. Most of the youngish men in my area with good paying jobs are in a skilled trade. They end up leaving and drifting around if they do not grab that option.

The actual stat is that, among all divorces where the woman is college educated, in 90% of those divorced, the person who files the paperwork is the woman.

Another part of the statistic you are missing is that in couples where the woman is college educated, divorce is actually less likely. Here’s the link:

I don't see higher divorce rates as a problem per se. In the past, when divorce was more stigmatized and less attainable, it meant more couples were stuck in unhappy and even abusive marriages. Love fades sometimes, people change, marriages fall apart, often the children are caught in the crossfire. This isn't a new issue. Both of my parents are boomers, and they were both divorced before they met each other (my father and his ex split amicably, my mother and her ex...not so much). My maternal grandparents separated as soon as they could; they married far too young after being coerced by their parents (he got her pregnant, they were Catholic, it was the 50s, enough said), and they were both pretty unstable with my grandfather apparently being physically and emotionally abusive. My mother had a very unhappy childhood, to say the least. It's not better for anyone when couples stay together when they really, really shouldn't.

Women getting educations isn't an issue in my opinion, either. I'm pro-higher education for everyone who wants it, personally. There's too much untapped potential if people are discriminated against, and more knowledge is never a bad thing IMO. There are problems with how some societies currently handle higher education (America, I'm looking at you...get your shit together). I don't know how it connects to divorce necessarily. Perhaps the higher educated woman is more likely to be assertive or more likely to recognize problems in a relationship. Maybe there are other factors at play that were never analyzed. Statistics can tell us if there's a correlation between data points; they don't necessarily tell us why there's a correlation.

Women need to have more qualifications to get taken serious in the work force. Men are just super confident and apply for jobs they might not be suited for. They have no issue applying for jobs they don't have the qualifications for. Women tend to rate their qualifications much lower.
Divorces get mostly initiated by women because men rather stay and suffer in a marriage than initiate divorce. As long as they get pussy they stay. Women are also usually the ones performing "paper duties". So men like to pretend they are divorced when they start hitting up new women when on paper they actually aren't. They just can't be arsed to start the process of the divorce so the labor for that stays with women.

I don't necessarily see divorce as the reason any of this should be addressed. What I see as the issue that needs to be addressed is that these schools are simply unaffordable to a lot of people, lots who are born into less advantageous living situations have to work extremely hard to get enough money to get through something like college. Its not realistic, and yet a huge amount of the world requires it now.

Really what needs to be addressed is that college is not accessible, and yet is growing ever closer to a necessity in most career paths. I personally believe rerouting college systems to be free for all, just because that breaks down an almost insurmountable barrier as is. And furthermore making it possible to actually.. y'know.. live while you're in college. Aid for expenses while you're in school and so on. Because making the courses free is pointless if someone still has to work two jobs to pay to just survive, leaving no actual time for courses.

I think it'll help a lot of people, men, women, anyone really, to go to college if they want. I think that will correct a lot of accessibility problems we see today.

Men can also go to college and initiate divorce, no one is stopping them. Just because they're sitting on the couch instead doesn't mean men are getting left behind. Women are only just this century getting the right to be self sufficient, for a lot of human history men have STOPPED women from being educated or owning property. I think all Americans can understand not wanting to have to completely rely on another human to survive.

If it were just this one issue, then who knows? Could be something just about college.

But increasing male underperformance is much broader than that, so one is inclined to believe this is part of a bigger dynamic. Thus, the college-specific arguments here don't hold that much weight with me.

However, it is unclear if male underperformance is as remediable as female underperformance was. There is a strong chance that typical women are just more psychologically adapted to the modern world than typical men. Just as men are more variable, with longer tails on most of their trait distributions, and thus the glass ceilings in society may be permanent fixtures, so too may be female outperformance at the median.

Or are we implying that women who are more educated are more likely to divorce since they file more often? I don't see how that adds up to stats that show divorces are much higher in less educated areas and when the women stay home instead of working. (although staying home doesn't mean they aren't educated, which i suppose could connect to higher dissatisfaction)

In my experience I seen it used as intrasexual warfare.

The professional class (high earning beta males) are trying to take females away from the alphas. They let the women succeed so the females will no longer relate to the men of their communities and will go for the professional class beta males.

Divorce isn’t inherently a bad thing in every situation. Some people acknowledge that keeping a relationship is toxic for the kids or both parties.

Maybe we should explore why men don’t go to college at similar rates but I’d argue it’s because they can find well paid trades.

Women and men have freedoms, including to make choices that make them happy or even that don’t, but they don’t have to benefit society.

You have to think about it like musical chairs. Using the current ratio of 2:3, or 40% men and 60% woman. 20% of men will find a relationship with 20% of woman. That leaves us with a 1:2 ratio where there are now 2 woman competing for every individual guy and thats not accounting for the unattractive/weird ones that woman don't really want to date or lgbtq+ stuff.

This is going to be very intresting in times to come. Keep in mind that there are still a significant amount of woman going into lower paying careers (along with the heavy dept) such as psychology and education. That's not to say they are bad career choices but not as financially viable as majors such as those within stem. There are also more men that are joining the trades as we are currently undergoing a skilled worker shortage. Nevertheless, this is going to enevitably come down to woman within the dating scene. The amount of high earning, educated men is dwindling every year and competition for these guys is going to become more intense. That means woman will either:

1) Settle for a less educated tradesman

OR

2) Stay single and hope they find the one

Traditional dating standards have told us that few woman date down and want someone with similar or higher education status. There is also the factor of income though I'm sure this is more on the guys end (many guys are insecure of their woman making more then them). Tradesmen can also make great money but most make a very average amount and their titles are not as high status compared to a man who has say, a career in buisness. Woman ages 40-59 take more antidepressants than any other group (23%, likely due to opportunity of child-bearing passing) and these gender imbalances will likely accelerate these rates.

I don't doubt that there will be greater rates of "incel" culture as woman develop higher standards and men begin to blame woman for having fewer dating opportunies (at least the ones that don't go to college). This is likely going to cause a pity party of how men are undereducated and woman are ungrateful but of course, this is me speculating. I also suspect hookup culture will become more severe because less guys means girls have to compete more, at least on college campuses (guys have more leverage and usually that means lots of casual sex).

Dating is going to get hella weird over the next 10 years and I gotta say, it's a blessing to be a guy going to college. Looking forward to the dating scene in my mid twenties.

So much focus in school system on girls…getting the results they wanted! Even today, schools are substantially more focused on females. I have two boys and try to offset the bullshit they hear in school by building them up as young, educated, polite men!

Let’s unpack some of this “college degree” stuff. Most of the women degrees are in bullshit “——-studies” degrees with very few being STEM. This “——-studies “ are BS degrees that don’t benefit society as a whole. A good % women end up entitled thinking they made some great accomplishment when in fact it was a massively expensive societal debt NoT asset. Notice scholarships and paying back loans aren’t based on the degree you got? Woman studies major vs electrical engineering is not the same.

80/20 on steroids in the future. Will turn to 90/10. Accomplished men I know myself included are flooded with women. I am literally drowning in friends trying to set me up. I would describe it as pure insanity that I could only dream about as a 24 year old starting out.

Now flash forward. Society has college educated people with worthless degrees and debt that could have bought them a house. They are angry, bitter, feel deceived by modern feminists and then further lose it when they get to there 30’s because they catch baby fever.

In the last 4 years I’ve had 3 women friends wanting me to father children. As if the court system wouldn’t f-me over for payments and responsibilities if these women changed their mind later.

I think part of it is that men tend to go into the trades/physical work more. These are male dominated jobs that pay well but don’t need a college degree. Women’s equivalent I would say is maybe nursing/medical technicians. These tend to be female dominated and pay well but you do need a degree.

So it’s not some issue that’s going to need to be addressed. Men aren’t falling behind on money /jobs. However I do concede that many women who are educated will want a similarly educated man but that’s slowly changing. It’s not dissimilar to when attitudes towards household chores started changing very slowly. When women first started working many men still wanted them to do the traditional women’s work at home when there’s no real reason for that assuming they work the same number of hours/commute.

But that attitude changed very slowly. I am seeing the trend that women are starting to date guys who make less than them as long as the guy is pursuing something or is willing to be the home maker. My boss is a woman whose husband is the house husband, I know a person in the med field who’s dating a teacher that makes less than them and I make more than my husband and have more degrees too.
