Is it worth it to not be yourself in dating and relationships?

By not being yourself, I mean things like pretending to be a little more asshole than you are to attract women (but not so much that the mask falls off), giving fake compliments to people or liking their stuff on social media, just so they think they are important to you and they will like you more. Online dating is primary way of meeting others, but not the only.

The market for meeting ppl IRL at functions and merriment has never been more ripe as far as warm approaches go. I’ve seen that commonly with my own two eyes. Just as I’ve heard the “we met on Hinge” pitch.

The top arenas for meeting your boo in 1995 vs 2017 were:

33% through friends to 20% through friends
19% at bar or restaurant to 27% at bar and restaurant

Is it weird to be 21 and not experienced a committed relationship yet my parents are on me about it as they are African and I’m graduating college. I really didn’t start dating until I got to college at 18 and the last three years I’ve definitely gained experience but never quite made it far enough with anyone to where we were actually in an official relationship. Alright, time for ethical dilemmas round 2:

Yesterday I posted this comment thread highlighting the standard and a modified version of the trolley problem. While I got some… interesting answers, the most common answers were either “don’t pull the lever in either case” or “pull the lever, unless the 5 people were to blame, in which case let them die.”

I want to now consider how a similar dynamic plays out in context pregnancy from consensual sex. Assume for the sake of argument that the fetus is a “person” because arguments from bodily autonomy should reasonably apply even if the fetus is granted personhood.

Pregnancy by consentual sex is analogous to the 5 people knowingly endangering themselves as well as the worker. People who have sex are aware of the risks of doing so, even in the case of contraceptive failure. They are therefore “knocking the worker into the tracks” as well as “falling on the tracks” themselves. However, the stakes are even lower with no intervention in the case of pregnancy. Instead of risking 5 lives as in the modified Trolley problem, the woman is actually only risking her own bodily autonomy for 9 months, but the infant’s actual life is still at risk if we “divert the train.” Given these considerations, I have two question:

Question 1: Is aborting a pregnancy resulting from consensual sex (again, assuming a fetus is a person) permissible?

Question 2: If yes, (and you agreed not to divert the trolley in either of the two scenarios), why is it okay to actively kill someone to preserve a single person’s bodily autonomy when it is not okay to kill someone to preserve both the life and bodily autonomy of 5 people, given that their risky behavior was the cause of the predicament in both cases?

Just to beat a dead horse, before someone says “but a fetus isn’t actually a person,” that’s beside the point. This is an argument only against bodily autonomy as a justification for abortion after consensual sex, not abortion as a whole.

I have this theory that Red Pillers communicate differently from the general populace.

When a woman say that she wants a "nice guy", we understand it as meaning "I want a partner who I find attractive, whose life goals are compatible with mine, who is able to look after himself and provide stability to the relationship, but above all who will love and support me".

In Red Pill opinion, "nice guy" is interpreted quite literally as someone who says nice compliments and... that's about it.

I can't stress enough how bizarre this worldview is. Humans do not communicate in long, rambling monologues and clarify every single word with dictionaries. Instead, we read the situation, notice the context, supplement verbal information with body language and interpret what is being said accordingly. This way, a single term can have a very rich and nuanced meaning.

Imagine if a Red Piller were to be dropped into a warzone. A commander asking for an "evac" would find himself staring slack-jawed at an old, beat-up pickup truck straight from a used car dealership while the Red Piller smugly lectures that "ackchually" the commander should have used facts & logic and clarified that he was requesting an armored personnel carrier.

This is further compounded by the impression that Red Pillers DON'T even want to learn how to communicate better. Emotions are an important aspect of communication. In fact, pets can intuitively understand and comfort their owners through emotions alone. Why would anyone relegate themselves to missing or misunderstanding large parts of what is being said by disregarding emotional context?

When a successful, career-minded woman says that she wants a "nice guy" for a partner, it should be intuitively clear that she does not mean some deadbeat college dropout who follows women on social media and showers them in unwanted compliments.

Here’s some problems with the comparison:

Romeo and Juliet is a classic. In Florida, it’s for high schoolers to read and discuss.
Romeo and Juliet does not promote it’s darker fucked up topics like teen marriage and suicide. In fact, it’s a cautionary tale of the couple falling in love causing problems. As well as the stupid gang war their families were in leading to their deaths.
I Am Jazz isn’t merely an LGBT book. It’s a book about a 5 year old being trans and it’s target audience is little kids ages 4 to 8. That’s a very controversial topic in this day and age.

This is a tangentially related question based on the "how easy is it to get free stuff for being a woman" thread, but it's been something I've been wondering for years:

How the fuck do people afford to get drunk at bars?

I've been to one actual bar before and the drinks ranged from $7 to $14 (before tax). I drank one hard seltzer for $7 and nothing else in part because I didn't want to spend half the money in my bank account at a fucking bar. If "drunk" is 5 drinks, which would probably work for me but I have the alcohol tolerance of a baby bird, that would be a minimum of $35, before tax. On one night of drinks for one person.

I went to a college party that was being held at a rented-out bar once and only had two drinks there because each drink was $7. The only times I've ever gotten drunk have been a) at parties with open bars and b) when I or someone else has already purchased and brought home an entire bottle of alcohol (so whether I drink it all now or not doesn't make a difference since $23.99 has already been spent).

Like it or not, dual mating strategy is what is best for the species as a whole. Sure it hurts the lesser privileged men of society but such is so.

I was hanging out with my brother and his fiancé last week and we stopped by this woman’s clothing store. There were a buncha women giggling up in front of the counter,probably talking about something really lame. Is this the appropriate place to bring up a problem with this sub's mod policies? I feel like the the enforcement of Rule #2: Be Civil is being administered in a misandrist way. Women seem to be allowed to call names and be nasty, whereas the minute a man implies that a woman might have slightly less intelligence than she thinks, he gets a "Be Civil" "Warning" from the mods. What oversight or accountability do these overzealous mods have to the community they're policing? How can reign this problem in?

I’m circling back to this because the person keeps commenting.

He’s suggesting that the national average is the only measurable “average” that matters. I stated, that’s an unfair population sample to use as an average for the simple fact that I live in Pennsylvania, people in my dating pool are likely going to be in Pennsylvania.

If I use the national average to determine what “average” really is, it’s probably not going to be relevant, because men in population dense, high income areas like Rhode Island, Connecticut, Maryland, and California are going to skew what “average” for my area is. Men in those states aren’t in my dating pool - so I use a different population sample when determining what standards/preferences to have are “reasonable.”

If the average man for the area I live in is making less than the national average and I compare him to that standard, I’m not seeking an “average man,” I’m then seeking an above average man when you compare the two population samples (entire USA versus Pennsylvania).

I don’t know why his insistence that the national average is the only metric to measure men up against is bothering me, but it is. I’m weak letting this place get to me. 😅😅

I heard on the Lex Fridman podcast today from guest evolutionary biologist David Buss that when women have affairs, 70% report that they fall in love with the affair partner, while the number is 30% for men.

Seems to me that when women step outside of marriage, more often than not it means she’s getting ready to monkey branch. For men it’s more likely to be just sex.

Who thinks that the gender war is really just an offshoot of the class war with typically the rich and wealthy men on one side with corporate support going against the middle-class men, this is going to sound like a conspiracy but what better way to target the middle class and make no one care about their erosion than to target men the biggest part of the middle class(this was done to the lower class by targeting men as well through anti-drug legislation and three-strike laws). Through feminism and the government, the two largest groups of men have been targeted and taken apart to a large degree, and while UMC and upperclassmen are unaffected those who could make the change don't care since they are not adversely affected. It seems to me like those in power benefit from middle-class men and women being against each other since they are less likely to produce educated children which will oust those in power. This is more of an opinion piece than a persuasive argument but I am glad to hear what anyone thinks.

Other than psychos and radfems, the type of women I hate the most are the ones who rarely say what they really mean. They either tip toe around what they want to say or they rely too heavily on non verbal communication. As if they expect you to be mind readers. I cant tell if she’s stupid or manipulative.

Alot of men here dont say what they mean either, but I assume its to make themselves seem more relatable/sympathetic instead of how shallow they really are. Like claiming “I need sex” and “I feel so lonely not fucking a girl”.

I feel like the empathy gap, and understanding of how and why women do things would shrink if men became the weaker more vulnerable sex for a bit. Having all the reproductive burden shoved onto you, being the prnitrated partner by a person on average nearly twice as strong as you and bigger is a mindful if you think about it too hard.

I think we'd all have more middle ground if we walked in eachotjer shoes. I can take horny pills, but men can't really become predicated upon like women are
