People’s idea of “average” is wayyyy too high. Based on what I see at Walmart, the average man is between 5’ 7”-5’ 9”, slightly overweight, and an average (5) face.

You only need to look good and forget about the rest. I have seen more than enough idiots with the personality of a rock who were succesful with women because they looked good.

The ones you mentioned aren't as common as you think either and just because an average guy may have those things (lol at sexiness), it doesn't mean he's getting laid. Women will still choose hot boring Chad over a more interesting average guy any day and that's typically how it goes.

"All men cheat" is something lots of women like to say but in reality it's all the men she deals with cheat, while a large portion of men are just flat out sexless altogether and have no women to cheat or be faithful to altogether. That might have been true for the few people who were bitching on the sub 6-7 years ago, but now we have actual data showing it's manifesting at a macro level. It takes time for the actual end points to manifest, which could very mean very stagnant economic growth or even degrowth in the coming decade.

What does average even mean too? Do you know what a bell curve is? Do you know what a standard deviation is?

I think the general gist is that men tend to overrate themselves and women underrate themselves. But I think that research was based on physical characteristics.

Women look for the package and those intangible qualities you mentioned are included in that. I suppose it’s hard to rate what average is on those metrics, especially if you don’t have a large family, social circles and work colleagues to base a standard on?

I think a big part of the complaint is that for an average guy, if you do want someone, you have to settle for far less than what you'd want in a partner. Essentially someone who's made a shitload of mistakes, needs therapy, and comes to you as her final final recourse.

So yeah most guys will probably get someone. But it might be less than what they want or were hoping for.

Honestly I think most guys should, if they're looking for a specific something, just resort to marrying someone from a non-western country and avoid all the negativities and baggage of dating in the west.

Yes. They confidently forget that not only are they 5'6 but they're also morbidly obese. They have bad hygiene. Haven't been to the dentist in years. They can't talk about anything besides their very niche hobby and they only order chicken tenders and French fries at every restaurant they go to. I’d guess most of these men are pretty average, but they are trying to date top 5-10% of women. 18-24, slim, cute face, bubbly personality, is NOT an average woman by any means, even if you don’t find her particularly gorgeous. Men tend to judge averages by female celebs and eliminate older and fat women from the pool of “women.”

Oh, and before anyone says anything, yes women judge average men as below average too. But this is talked about and exaggerated constantly here, while nobody talks about men doing the same.

I got no problem saying I am not average. I'm at least just below average. Like 4. I'm 6'2 but I have areas I need to work on. So I'm going to really seriously work on becoming well-above average. I won't ever settle for being just average most men should want to either or you're never ever going to get the woman you fantasize about. Most of the women who fuck average looking guys are hoes. It’s difficult to define average because most people are below average in some ways and above average in other ways, and there isn’t an easy way of combining everything together and calculating a composite attractiveness score due to how some attributes are weighted more than others. Also being below average in one attribute generally will hurt you more than being above average in other attributes will help you, so it’s difficult to properly compensate. Someone who is well balanced will have an easier time dating than a person who is a mix of extremely above and extremely below average traits, ie you make 1M a year, handsome, but are 5’3 vs you make 100k, average face, and are 5’11… or also someone who is 6’5 ripped but a hobo.

The more I see these discussions on women's standards, the more I realize this isn't about some objective measure as income, education, political preference etc. Those factors can only be turnoffs, so being poor, being low educate, or supporting the wrong cause can push a women away.

Have a good income, being well educated and average looks isn't going to magically get women. So you can be average or above in all aspects, but if you don't know how to flirt, do online dating or cold approaches, or when to go for a kiss, then your chances for success with women are very low.

TL DR: this post implicitly links "skills in life" to dating, but they are hardly linked irl.

(Just took me 10 years of adulthood to figure that out, as I kept working on myself in the wrong ways to be ready for a partner, such as building a career, volunteering etc, but that shit doesn't matter.)

I think average people do not want above average or below average people. Most of the people on this subreddit claim to be either above average or below average.

Average people like to blend in, and don't want someone they cannot handle because neither is conducive in the long-term to their average lifestyle.

It seems average people are rejecting above and below average people to pursue other average people — and in turn have more success because they relate to each other more. Above average people with low self-worth are going after average people and getting bad results; expecting them to perform like them because average people are average and should be easy pickings, and thankful for their above averageness. Below average people are going for average people thinking that average people are equipped to handle someone below their range and getting bad results, so the average people must think they are 'better than average' because of this.

I 100% agree. But he may need years to get laid. If a man is medium in look (aka slightly overweight and not especially good looking, without style), if he is medium interesting/boring and medium funny, medium charismatic, medium social and medium on the mental health balance... he won't get laid easily.

Average is a convenient word, but no one is average. Yet a certain amount of men struggle with dating. Still most manage to get dates, a relationship or sex once in a while, but not necessarily easily.

A friend of mine is a woman in her 30s, and she is dating casually. She told me she was really shocked by the ratio of men she met who didn't have sex in the last six months or a year... and she is not looking for the worst singles ever.

I'm married with a couple young kids and I do the overwhelming majority of cooking and cleaning, while working full time as an engineer who travels ~30%. I supported my wife through medical school and residency, and now we're doing pretty well financially. But it's never enough, I'll never measure up no matter what I do.
