I certainly don't find 80% of women attractive. Maybe 1 in 20 women really catch my attention. They're stunning looking.

Another 3 or 4 are attractive once I notice them.

Then another 4 or 5 are or can be attractive if I get to know them. Something like the 3 or 4 above, but the reaction takes longer.

My sense is there are about as many stunning looking men, but for the typical woman, there are some but fewer men in the attractive once noticed and attractive once they get to know them. Add groups

I don't think men are inherently uglier, I just think the standards women judge male attractiveness by is harsher than the ones men judge women on.

Just height alone is a good example. A woman can be anywhere within 2 standard deviations on either side of the average and not have it hurt her attractiveness. Meanwhile for men, their height plays a big role in how attractive/masculine they are perceived to be and they start losing points just for being average.

If you go by the internet trope of 666, then yes. % of being 6ft tall are already below 20%. % of men in the US making 6figures is low as well. Lastly 6pack, requires you to not only be in the gym regularly, but have some questionable eating habits at times to have a 24/7 6pack.

if you compare to girls, the requirements are much lower and more easily cheated. Rarely a height requirement, income requirement, etc. Many body types are celebrated/fetishized. Makeup, lighting, angles really distort mens perception. Plastic surgery is widely accepted.

The only female centric complaint I ever see here is weight. Which is controllable. Slim/flat tummy way easier to achieve and maintain than 6pack.

I think men are simply judged more harshly for their looks because sperm is cheap and plentiful, so it has to be very high quality to near parity with even a mediocre quality egg from a woman, which are much more rare.

There are as many male 8's as female 8's, but a male 8 is reckoned as attractive as, say, a female 6. I think women would generally be shocked to see what a male version of themselves would look like. A female 6 transformed into a male 6 would be damn near suicidal.

Realistically only 30 or 40% of women are attractive. Nearly all women are overweight and that's a disqualifer.

Also women's attractiveness has a shelf life, after 30 very few women are still very attractive. So they're likely disqualifed as well.

Most people in general aren't very attractive, so saying 80% of women are is hilarious.

I dunno. I think men with a lot of tattoos, piercings, cute kids (I'm 41 so I expect kiddos), and a love of metal music are hot. I'm 41 so I've never dated a dude that's older than me or is divorced/has kids (I have 1 adult kid for reference, never married.)

I prefer men my age or younger (within 3-5 yrs either way).

I LOVE kids, but find most dudes my age don't have custody of their kids and that speaks volumes.

I'm not attracted to men who play with guns, are misogynist /pretend they want to "care" for me, are "bros" (pretend to buff out at the gym), or get into any sports (watching), playing sporting is awesome. WATCHING sports is a huge turnoff.

There's a big age factor where young women are attractive-by-default to men of all ages, so there is a lot of competition when you are a young guy. In the long run, it seems to even out a lot more as diet/exercise/good habits wins out.

Sexually attractive by looks alone? Probably. Men's hornyness does tend to cloud the mind. Look at the concept of "post nut clarity" where after nutting they might suddenly see that person as no longer sexually attractive. Whereas women are rarer aroused by looks alone.

Aesthetically attractive? Doubt. Around 80% of men have at least one aesthetically attractive feature.

There are about as many pretty men as there are women (relative to average).

There are about as many tall men as there are women (relative to average).

There are few pretty and tall men, but there are also few pretty and tall women.

If you have both appearance and height as a requirement for attractiveness in men, and only appearance in women, then of course you will come to the fact that there are more attractive women. But that's only because you made more demands on men at the same time.

Even if there are common traits that a lot of humans find attractive (hence the entire point of the scientific field of neuroaestetic), attractiveness is litterally based on perception. There is no Physical law that define beauty, but what it is define as beautiful can only decided by your own brain and brain chemical reactions.

It is more likely that indeed we have such perception because potentially humans are more incline to neonateous features, and because men tend to have higher libido and have adaptations to take more likely initiative than women, you end up with such conclusion.

Attractive and/or beautiful women are rare too, but still much more than attractive men.

When I was in a new high school, I (then 17F) was honestly genuinely pleased and proud to see just how many beautiful girls there are, lots of in every class. And I could not help noticing that I only met one beautiful guy IN THE WHOLE SCHOOL. He was like 15 but I didn't care he was 2 yrs younger because there were no attractive guys my age in my school.

I don't know if this post is a troll or not, but your anecdote pretty much exactly describes what is happening in the dating world right now, down to the exact numbers - and backed up by data.

Both OkCupid and Match have released well-known and infamous spreadsheets and graphs about this subject, which each consist of hundreds of millions of anonymous points of data. I highly encourage you to just simply search for "okcupid data". It will take you right there.

But, one of the main conclusions was exactly your experience, to exactly the same numbers. When men were asked to judge various women's attractiveness, it formed a nice perfect bell-curve.

However, when women did the same for men, the results showed that 80 percent of men were judged as being below average in attractiveness. It is an extremely lop-sided graph.

80 percent are below average. That's a punchline to a joke.

But, it gets worse. Then there is the graph that shows messaging data between men and women on the dating apps. Women just plain outright ignore any man in that 80 percent below average area. It was a straight, flat line at zero, all the way to the "80 percent" tack mark, and then it went straight up, like a cliff wall.

What's ridiculous here (besides everything else) is that OkCupid and Match actually posted some of the pictures of the men (with their permission) who were deemed to be in that lower below average 80 percent. As a heterosexual guy, I can tell you that they were handsome. Some, very handsome.

But wait, there's more. It gets even worse, yet. When you play out these implications in a fleshy 4D world. 80 percent of women are going pretty much solely for the top 20 percent of men. This means that 80 percent of women are all competing against each other for the same few men. All the other men are ignored.

Plug those parameters into a computer model, and see what happens.

How to fix this? Behaviors and perceptions have to change.
