I'm not going to contest the OPs claim. However, if we assume it to be true, then neither does the average woman. That's what pump-and-dumps are all about. Casual sex is just the illusion of value. I bet if you made a female profile and put up a picture of a sheep, it would still get matches, showcasing a lack of discrimination among men rather than women being wonderful.

There's very little point in discussing an "average man" or an "average woman" unless we use some stats. An average man and an average woman in the US are both closer to their 40s somewhat overweight and most of them have dated already, so it's not that they have "nothing to offer".

Most people talk about what they see as an average though, which makes that extremely subjective and dependent on one's sample. My sample full off immigrants and refugees is going to be vastly different from a local guy's whose all friends play DnD every Friday.

I'd also argue that men provide far more than finance. A lot of women date not to get just a provider, but to get a life partner and, arguably, they have higher standards due to it. From what I've seen there are people struggling with dating due to various reasons and trying to pinpoint something one is just oversimplification of the topic.

I strongly disagree and I'm proof of that.

I'm fit, and very wealthy by doctor standards in my 30s, but I have less dating options than I did in college. I do however appeal to average looking women so it's not like my personality is a big turn off.

I know many examples similar to myself. If we went back even 15 years in time, it would be way different. Standards have gone up immensely the past decade.

Women just stopped caring about everything else and now only care about looks and personality. Just what you offer genetically, not what you can acquire.

I disagree with your premise that most women do not find men attractive. On the contrary, I think most heterosexual women find men broadly attractive and would be able to find men that suit their aesthetic tastes for sex partners within any moderately sized group (let’s say 50 or more randomly distributed). Further I think most women enjoy sex, at least some times and in some contexts, and would prefer to obtain those contexts rather than go without sex indefinitely.

If we are talking about cohabitating or embarking on a romantic long-term relationship then sure, for most people simply accessing good sex is not enough to justify everything else that comes along with it.

I continually feel that framing this analysis as a question of ‘standards’ is unhelpful and confuses the point, since there is no clear agreement on what would constitute a high or low standard, or where the ‘correct’ level of standards ought to be placed.

Women want looks first above everything the only difference was back then society was more patriarchal so men generally did the man provision and people live in tighter knit communities. It isn’t that the average male is providing less than males before considering that the average person in pre industrial times was a peasant who I doubt lived very good compared to today and worked harder for far less. The truth is with the bigger dating market and a more egalitarian society women have raised their dating standards, they are also less likely to get married/marrying at an older age which was/is the main mode which men in the past and today have sex.

Aren't you forgetting children? Modern medicine still can't make woman pregnant without a man. Also, after the child is born, having a man around really helps, since he can still work fulltime while she takes care of the child.

Also, what about two incomes? Partnering up with a man gives your household two incomes and hence you get your mortgage paid off faster.

Two facts are the biggest problems here.

1st. There are extreme increase of gold diggers in America. Especially from educated and working women. If women can provide for herself doesn't mean she can't be a gold digger.

2nd. American girls/women excessively overestimates their rating numbers. In their head a lot of women thinking they are 9s and 10s and for that reason they are going for high rating men, where they don't take into consideration average and slightly above average men.

OP is severely confused as to what "high" means. So let me explain.

When the demand is above the average, that is the definition of a high standard. If the average man has nothing of value to offer women then that means women's standards are above the average. Therefore, they are high standards! Durr!!

Yes we’re living in a world where girls grew up in a big house, family had nice cars, took vacations, and had the old school middle class life.

Going to have to disagree in part.

Many men seem to feel that being a “provider/protector” is all that they should need to offer (while also resenting their self imposed role as a provider), and are frustrated and confused that what they see as their value isn’t equally valuable to women who can and do provide for and protect themselves.

We are in a transition period and it’s challenging for everyone.

The value that many women are actually interested in from men (true equal partnership, truly equal coparenting, mutual respect and support, etc.) is not something that most men can even conceptualize, much less implement on an ongoing basis.

Many men are clinging to a leader/follower, submissive woman who serves their man mindset and are baffled by the idea that women aren’t onboard with that dynamic because we no longer have to be.

This will all settle down in the coming years and decades and we will find a functional equilibrium, but right now it’s hard for everyone.

So in summary, it’s not that average men have nothing to offer, it’s just that women don’t need / value what they want to offer and they don’t want to offer what women truly value. It’ll all get sorted out and nobody will be completely happy with the end result but humanity will muddle through to a largely satisfactory middle ground.
