It's the constant struggle as a below average looking guy to even find one woman who is willing to treat me with basic decency, the abuse, the lies, and the complete lack of positive interactions or empathy that is hard.

I don't particularly enjoy dating. So no. I enjoy companionship, sex and building a life together. Dating is the thing you have to do in order to maybe get those things.

Most of the time its just stupid and unnecessarily stressful.

It used to be fun, especially in the first couple years after my divorce. I can’t pinpoint when my attitude changed. The last date I was on was plenty fun, but then I got ghosted and that was it for me.

I have no intent to get remarried, have more children, or have a domestic partner, so I am not going to waste someone’s time or energy. I don’t need the drama to follow, either.

Is job hunting enjoyable? No. Are interviews enjoyable? Mostly no. I just did one where a sat through a bunch of technical questions and had to answer each one using the "STAR" technique. I have another hour and a half of this tomorrow. Its a fucking pain.

But...the jobs I'm interviewing for all pay $120k+ and these are second roles and have me as either a senior or lead engineer. I could probably have a far easier time applying for jobs doing sales $30k. I remember working in sales and finding the interview process "fun" because it was fucking easy. But, no shit, a company looking for a mule to sell their shitty product to 100 people a day doesn't make it hard.

If you're someone with anything resembling a standard, then dating isn't remotely enjoyable. I'm sure I could have a ball dating a bunch of overweight or desperate 35+ year olds on Tinder. But then I noticed when I was on there I set my profile range to 10 miles and my age range to 18-28. And, no shit, it was still a pain meeting people willing to fulfil the criteria I had.

I enjoyed being in a relationship mostly

Dating I dislike because it is hard and I resent that a lot of it comes down to factors outaide my control, and that many people my age only do it online while I refuse to do the apps because I believe in meeting people organically. Being on a date is generally fun but they are hard to get for me, few and far between.

But you have to do date to get to the relationship part so it is what it is.

I have tremendous fun dating. I love meeting women, listening to their stories, flirting and drinking. I don't care if it leads to sex; although if it doesn't within the first 2-3 meets, I'll move on.

If the two of you hit it off, dating is fun.

If you don't, just leave after 20-30 minutes. There is no point hanging around. Don't waste your time, just go and do something more productive.

When you develop outcome independence, you can enjoy an interaction for its positive aspects and not be hesitant to leave if you are bored or turned off.

However, if you are seeking a boyfriend/girlfriend/husband/wife/father/mother for your child, etc. I can imagine dating is a pain in the arse, as it is a necessary means to a defined end.

Definitely more annoying than fun. It's like watching a movie with someone who you know isn't into it, only you're the movie. If you're not well above average physically then any woman you date is going to be noticeably disengaged during the early first few dates because she's only "giving you a chance" because she's decided to settle. Eventually you sell yourself as personable enough to compensate for the lack of desire and she really likes you as a person even though she still doesn't find you attractive.

At that point having a girlfriend is nice but it doesn't last. If I were hotter, or a woman, dating would probably be fun but most of the time it's more degrading than anything.

If I was single again, I'd be the same person that I was when I younger. I'd be doing my own thing, not looking for women. Just living my life.

Without that pressure of coupling, I was very discriminating on the people I allowed in my life. Any hint of feminazi behavior and I just walked away.

I never "dated", I socialized. Meaning, I gathered a group of people and asked them to invite other people to shoot pool, darts, drinks, whatever...just to meet people for FUN and fellowship. If anyone caught my attention, I'd have a great opportunity to talk, play games, get to know them without the pressure of 1-on-1 meets.

It works. No social media neccessary. Just friends having a night out and everyone had their own tabs. No freeloaders. All equal footing.

I find it awful. I get some matches from time to time but I have so little experience with sex and intimacy that I don’t know what to do. All these people want everything within 3 weeks and it's absolutely exhausting.

It's not even exciting for me to go on dates anymore because most people seem to have the insane timelines.

To me it seems that most people don't even care who they're dating, they just want someone there to fill whatever script or timeline they have for themselves.

The dates aren't even fun half the time because the other person is so busy measuring their goal post that they barely get to know you individually.

Dating used to be fun for me. Now it just feels like a chore. I can't connect or agree with any of these people.

Dating can be incredibly fun. Unfortunately, I am something of a homebody so I suck at coming up with spontaneous date ideas, and I'm much better company in an intimate setting like my apartment... But you can't just ask ladies to hang out at your home for the first date, so they end up seeing my awkward side quite often instead of my confident side.

Also, you'd never believe how many flaky women are out here. I realize that they've probably been cussed out, debated with, and insulted when they've turned men down in the past, but man it's so demoralizing to get all gussied up and ready to go only for a last-minute cancellation, or a no-show on the date.

So basically, if dating was less performative, people were more respectful of my time, and it was easier to be myself early on, I'd enjoy it a lot more. With the right people, dates are a blast.

I'm in a relationship now but after I turned like 28 dating became especially fun for me.

I did the hard work for like years and found a partner, after the relationship ended I realized I was waaaay more desirable thanks to my own hard work and honestly some of hers to help me improve as well.

That, plus some more disposable income for dates I didn't have before, made my late-20's and my early-30's way more enjoyable as a single guy.

I wasn't sleeping around, that's not my thing, but I would go on a first date every week or two and some second dates. I realized I just really loved meeting new people and having good conversations - if there was mutual attraction and good conversation we'd go out again and if not then at least I had a fun night out.

I carried that exact mentality into when I dated my now-gf and it worked exceptionally well. We got along great and connected pretty quickly, and even as two people who weren't looking for what we found it came really natural to just.. stick together.

TL;DR - dating close to 30 was amazing, my positive attitude found me a great partner.

Is the date likely to be successful if you aren't having fun?

No, probably not. But that's the gamble, right? Will I enjoy my time with this person or not? That's why you do it in the first place, because there is a possibility it will be a fun time. But it's not guaranteed.

Thats why vetting your date is very important. If you don't have any obvious common interests, or you don't really know anything about their background or personality, or you don't have any kind of connection with them before the date, you're risking a much higher chance that it will veer into "bad" or even "horrible" territory. But if you make sure that the person you're meeting up with is pretty cool and someone you would like to at least spend a few hours with, then it will be awkward at worst, and in a best case scenario, you two really hit it off!

As a woman, the getting ready part is annoying. Don’t particularly enjoy having to spend time/money and effort to get ready for dates.. it is what it is though.

But when you’ve done the preparation, and vetted the man well before you go on a date.. it’s amazing.

Not gone to an excruciatingly high amount of dates, but they were mostly high quality. Fun, intellectually engaging, sometimes emotionally engaging.

My problem with dating is that a lot of decent, relationship-minded men I’ve met, do not know how to transition from dating to relationship.. They are great at playing cool, but do it for too long to where mutual interest sizzles out.

Hence why I personally don’t date complete strangers anymore (OLD/clubs/bars). Only so many times you can invest emotionally into strangers before you burn out. Too much effort, better do this for people you have more mutual connections with. This shift has served me well.

Yes. Call me a simp but I love footing the bill if I like the person, even if we don't end up having chemistry and just get along as friends. There's a study that says giving is one of the highest happiness inducing actions.

Also getting to learn about someone's life is pretty fun, since their life can be very different from mine. Especially once you establish rapport and they tell you very personal things, it makes me feel good that they trust me enough. Also having someone interested to know about you and ask you about yourself feels amazing.

And then there's the flirting part, starting out subtly and you both reciprocate and become more and more flirty. And holding hands for the first time and having a first kiss. And as you grow closer you start to do more activities together and you feel like you can trust this person.

This is when things go well. When the date is boring then yeah it's not fun, so I like to text people for a little bit before meeting up.

1st you have to get a date. My social circle is circling the drain, so it's mostly online we go and that is an zen-like exercise in futility. I do go on dates from it once in distant awhiles but it's clear from the get-go that there's no compatibility. But I think I'm looking too much for "spark"; there were a couple of times where nothing much was happening, but it wasn't terrible. But I didn't follow up in a timely manner (because it was ok but sort of forgettable), and they sent short messages like "guess you're not interested" and blocked me.

After our 1st date my ex told me "that wasn't horrible", which I took as a compliment. Maybe I'm looking for too much from that 1st date (which, considering their rarity, is probably absurd).

Meeting some new over dinner is generally fun. I’m fortunate to be able to not fret over the bill, but I am somewhat anxious throughout the date. I’m trying to get to know someone/build rapport, confirm her dating intentions, and suss out whether there are red flags. It’s hard (for me) to keep track of those things while simultaneously keeping the conversation flowing nicely.

That said, my better dates are generally with women who are enthusiastic about meeting me, and I don’t feel pressure to direct the conversation all the time because she too is curious about my specifics.

And like practically every other man, throughout the date, I’m asking myself: “will we kiss tonight?” or if we’ve already kissed, “will we fuck tonight?”

Sometimes it’s fun sometimes it sucks. I’ve had dates that were definitely fun, even ones that ended in neither a call back nor banging. As long as the girl is loose (edit: like light-hearted not sexually lmao) and the atmosphere is semi-reasonable it can be fun. Now and then I get a girl who wouldn’t know fun if it dick-whipped her in the face so yeah those dates are hella boring and a waste of time

Dating was always tons of fun for me. People are a lot of fun to meet, they all have stories, some are shy, some are outgoing, some are cute, some are hot, some want to fuck, some want to wait. In my dating days it was one of my top hobbies.

eh, Its just not on my priority list right now. It takes effort and without a doubt can impose detrimental effects on mental health but also very positives ones if you find the right person.

I would rather work on myself than have to deal with another person who I have to appeal to, communicate, find medians, sharing finances, ect.

I am currently a student and in a weird spot(26 M). I find not dating until my 30s completely fine. I want my education done, finances, a house, and more before I introduce another person into my life. I've had my share of ONS's and flings but never a official LTR. I am completely fine with this.

To sum it up, dating requires a lot of time and resources to devote to another person. I am not ready for that, not for a couple years at least.

Being on the date itself can be good, but everything leading up....kind of work involving.

As a guy you have to do all the reaching out/approaching, be noticeable/standout. to do all the planning of dates, leading the conversation, be funny, not be boring, paying, making the moves, etc, while also playing some defensive game in terms of weeding out the finessers, and flakes

....she just has to show up, actually look like her picture and not be fat, be showered, and wearing clean clothes...done.
