As a man, I'd say HOW a man makes his income. I don't like that most women want a man making 6 figures, just because it's not really feasible that 80 - 90% of women are going to end up with 16% of men if they want monogamy, but if that's a standard you need then that's your standard.

For me, I get a little disgusted when a woman finds a guy she likes who makes that, but oh no he's a plumber, I'm too good for a plumber. I tried to set a friend of mine up with a friend of mine who is a plumber and one of her comments was "I don't want him coming home smelling like a toilet". Like he doesn't have a work uniform and doesn't know how to shower.

That's the only standard some women have that genuinely pisses me off, and I'm a software engineer, but it's astounding how much disrespect women can put on blue collar men and nobody says anything about it. Do they not understand that if those men don't exist, you don't have the modern world? And you're gonna say no to a coffee date with a guy who makes six figures, has no student loan debt, and is in as recession free an industry as you're gonna get? Not saying you have to go on a second date, but that guy isn't even worth 30 minutes of your time to see if you like him? Honestly, as long as you're content being single, nothing is really too high of a standard. You get ONE person to be with for the rest of your life, I think you should be as picky as possible until you meet someone who's right for you. That doesn't mean some standards are dumb and once you meet the right person they might not meet specific previous standards but you won't care when it's the right person. It varies wildly depending on your market value. An easier question to answer is how do you know if a particular persons standards are too high.

For women, I’d argue that any significant relationship dry spell IRL or in OLD is a sign her standards are too high (assuming she would prefer LTR over casual).

For men, I wouldn’t read too much into OLD results, but I’d say constant rejection IRL is a sign they are aiming too high.

Generally, you know your standards are too high when none of your options can meet them. The two exceptions to this are (1) When it is better to be single than to drop a given standard, and/or (2) when there is a good reason to believe that you will be able to find someone that meets your standard later.

A good example of a standard that fits both exception criteria is that you will not put up with someone abusive. Even if you currently have no options (that you know of) besides your abusive ex, it is better to get some cats than let him/her back into your life. Also, there are more non-abusive people than abusive ones. Even if you are prepared to live out your days single, there is a good chance you will find someone worth waiting for.

An example of an unrealistic standard is if a young widow expects her future mate to endure comparison with her late husband. No one can replace her husband. No one knows her like her husband knew her because he has experience being married to her. If she uses her memories of him as a measuring stick for evaluating future men, she will end up rejecting them all or resenting the one she chooses for not being him. She will not be able to appreciate him for who he is because she is fixated on what he is not.

Another example of an unrealistic standard would be for a person who is unattractive and poor to expect an outrageously gorgeous, high-status mate. They might complain that the people they are pursuing are shallow, but that only matters because they are shallow too. If not for their own obsession with beauty and status, they would pair up with a fellow reject and find love.

If someone is alone and would potentially prefer it otherwise but refuses to lower their standards then so long as they get the fuck over any major negative feelings, reach a place of acceptance and then forge ahead forming a happy life alone, then their standards weren't too high.

Hair: Full head of hair preferred, or able to grow a full beard.
Education: Must be at least or more educated than the woman.
Finances: Must make at least or more than the woman.
Intelligence: Must be smart.
Funny: Must be witty.
Emotional: Must support her emotionally, but not be too emotional himself.
Confidence: Must be confident and accept that the woman is sometimes insecure.
etc...

Women want a combination of at least 4 or 5 of these. The unspoken requirements list is very extensive.

In reality "women have such high standards" is just a mental defense mechanism of TRPers that allows them to blame women instead of accepting their own flaws.

According to RP philosophy women have insanely high standards and only want the top percentiles of men, but that's only a coping mechanism they use to put the blame for their lack of success on women instead of actually looking deeper into their own issues.

Height

Whenever Red Pillers complain that women only want the top percentiles of men, the reality is that women actually only dislike the very bottom percentiles of men.

The problem isn't that women have such insanely high standards, the problem is that many guys aren't willing to accept that they are at the very bottom and instead blame women for having high standards.

"I'm average and women don't like me because they only want the top 20%" is simply an easier to swallow pill than "women don't like me because I'm part of the bottom 10%"

Shooting for a certain type of person but then not being able to accept the things that come with it
- Wanting someone who's in top-shape but then can't accept the hours they'll spend in the gym or the special diet they need to eat
- Wanting a thug but then being upset when he actually shoots somebody or gets into violent situations
If you try to aim for people who meet your standards and you're universally rejected by that type of person
