I've seen numerous times where someone has described a man as ran though as he'd slept with lots of women.

And I've always just assumed it was another term for calling someone a slut. Not to be used in the sense that one partner has ran though the other, as they've slept together, but in cases where one person has had a large number of partners.

I know it's not citing the oxford dictionary, but for a term like this I feel it's applicable.

The top most recognized definition for ran though on Urban Dictionary by a over a thousand votes is directed toward a male example.

All in all, is it a nice way to put it? No. It's definitely a little... derogatory. But it seems to say in line with how both genders seem to feel toward promiscuous partners.

And give that, according to CDC data (2015–2019), the median number of lifetime partners for adults aged 25–49 is about 4 for women and 6 for men, it's hardly a surprise that people would feel that way.

There's a lot of talk of sour grapes in the comments. But as someone who's turned down more casual sexual than they've had partners, as I only really want to sleep with a partner I have a strong emotion connection with, it seems quite a lot of people feel this way.

Personally, I don't care what other people do. People should live as they see fit. Not live as though they're making sure I'd want to be in a relationship with them. But this aversion to promiscuous partners isn't a purely male thing. It's actually very evenly split. Which, I will say, does stay true to what I've experienced IRL, also. It's not uncommon to have spoken with women who were very put off by men who'd slept around.

It might come from jealousy or bitterness, but it's a valid term to express a certain sentiment towards women who had a lot of partners in their past without getting any of them to commit long term and are now beyond their prime. It's cruel, lacking of compassion and I don't use it myself, but it puts into a word a real perception both men and women have about a kind of archetype. It's similar to Fuckboy, "Peter Pan" syndrome or Napoleon complex in that sense, both of which terms are describing some negative male archetypes.
