Just a thought about this "porn is all acting" argument, well I don't fully agree with that, but even if that was true, just think about acting for a moment. There are some amazing actors out there and great performances. Nobody would laugh in your face if you got teary eyed by whatever stellar performance, or if you considered an actor to be amazing. "Loool nuuub he is just acting, doing it for money hahhhh, he got you there, lame person! ROFLMAO."

I would wager that good actors tend to resonate with their role on some level and like to play that role. They bring SOUL into their performance. We all know that it can happen that an actor gets some big money deal in a silly ass brainless action movie and it's kind of evident they don't put a lot of effort into it. And then there is a whole spectrum from there to a life-changing role that they think of as their magnum opus.

So even in this "it's just all acting" framing, porn can still be much, much more than just people pretending to enjoy themselves with various success, as these folks who say such things imagine it. That logic is just so reductionist. Yes, a lot of porn is lame and soulless but there is ABSOLUTELY some that has genuine passion and lust in it, and soul. It's as self-evident as any other good performance.

Honestly I don’t buy the fact that women are happier alone with no partner than men are. At best they can probably tolerate it better since they often have friends and family connections more than most men.

But I’ve never met a woman in my life who said “Gee I wish I would never have a boyfriend or a husband.” Not that these women don’t exist but reddit exaggerates the amount women who swear off dating forever. Spoiler alert: it’s a super tiny minority. Of course Reddit exaggerates everything regularly.

We need to stop perpetuating this bullshit because it invalidates women who do hate being alone and single, and makes men feel like they’re worse than most women. you know what really sucks as someone who used to be a cashier and also someone who shops at retail/grocery/convenience stores? when you get in line behind an obvious meth addict, with a cart full of bullshit. recently went to the store to get like two things, and i ended up waiting behind an obvious meth-addicted woman, with those fucked up recessed gums and really long teeth, a cart full of dog food and other random junkie shit, and her dog in the shopping cart. i just knew she was going to hold up the line.

If you are judging an individual that you've never met against that broad generalisation, then you do think it's all. In practice, you do. Because your treatment of that individual is based on your generalisation of an immutable characteristic.

I'm severely visually impaired, so I've had things like this happen a lot. I remember a new co-worker accused me of staring at a female colleague. "Typical man," she said. The fact is, I couldn't even see that colleague due to my disability. I was "staring" at a blurry mess of colours, which I thought was posters on the wall.

She never even considered that I might have a disability, or was just daydreaming, or whatever else! She wasn't trying to be mean (she said it jokingly), but the presumption still irked me.

I think we have a long way to go until disabilities are more recognised generally. We are making great progress with other identities, but physical disabilities still lack empathy. Although accessibility options in software is improving!!!

EDIT: I should add, I've no doubt I've been guilty of this. When I read a comment on here, I do start to form a picture in my head of their age or gender. But I think it's important to strive towards not treating that individual differently based on your assumption.

This "hehe but you won't die without it" response people have is pure semantics and ignores that friendly or familial connection is different from romantic/sexual connection and therefore cannot be used as a replacement. It also ignores that people can be romantically lonely yet also have friends and family and a sense of community. Or that generally most people feel like romantic and sexual connection is fundamental to the human experience.

Guy approached me at the grocery store today, seemingly just wanting to talk. He asked about my shoes and carried on a conversation. He was a little awkward, even outside the fact that he was approaching strangers in a grocery store. However, he was friendly, so I entertained it despite being mildly annoyed. I later saw him doing the same thing with other people in the store.

He was definitely younger than me—probably late teens or early 20’s, which makes me wonder if this is a generation thing? I regularly read that with the pandemic and social changes, the younger generations struggle in those regards. And I look very young, not to mention I have the day off and was just wearing a hoodie and joggers. Was he trying to make friends? Just starved for some/any social interaction?

Either way, I don’t blame him. I do kind of feel bad for him too. Not that I have a bunch of friends, but I’m certainly more complacent than to do something like that. Hopefully it works out for him and I think he’s on the right track. Just not sure if the grocery store is going to be the best venue for that lol.

People's reaction to the Menendez brothers is weird. At the end of the day their guilt is not in question. They admit to doing it. I don't agree with the death penalty so I'm happy they avoided that. I also do not agree with life in prison if the people aren't likely to reoffend and since the attack was targeting their parents, I don't think they would murder again.

But people's justification of murder and violence because someone may have experienced something that the internet populace deems justified is so weird to me. That logic would imply that any action is justified if enough people believe it is justified and if that is true, then anything would be justifiable on an individual level because the individual could justify it so the only sort of determination of justice would rely on popular opinion rather than thorough examination of ethical implications.

You know, it's weird to me too about the death penalty stuff. Like people will be like "I don't support the death penalty except in cases of..." and it's like, if you support the death penalty in some circumstances then you support the death penalty!

The world is overran by this violent mob and the internet has given people a voice that should have probably never had a voice to begin with. It's like that tweet about two dumb girls looking at each other and going "exxxaaaccctttlllyyyyy"

Whenever my husband and I have any issues, she always encourages him to divorce me. All couples go through ups and downs but she just looks for an opportunity to bring up divorce. She even got one of her other sons divorced.

She does not live in this country legally. Should I just get her deported?

Said theory was debunked when they found out age 25 was as far as that study went due to it having run out of funding. Now it's been revealed that Your Brain Changes Based on What You Did Two Weeks Ago. The brain is ever-shifting. There are other much better arguments against age gaps, especially:

experience gaps usually leading to the inexperienced one getting taken advantage of
toxic and predatory mindsets in those who set out to establish their relationships on age gaps

This might sound really bad but IDC, I gotta vent anonymously, as an east asian guy I frankly don't find east asian women attractive.

Most have some combination of exaggerated asiatic traits like a big/round face, very flat facial profile (esp. shallow eye area), squinty eyes/no eyelid crease, squished nose, etc. I just don't find those traits appealing and I feel like most people don't.

Looks strange to me just like how it does to many whites, because me and my immediate family don't look like that. I mean I certainly don't think we look white or mixed, we're still visibly east asian because of our black hair/irises and lack of a nose bridge, we just don't have those more exaggerated traits. And it's not like not having those traits makes you look "white", south asians, black africans, etc, also don't have most of those traits so.
