Dating apps are just tragic. Where I’m from it’s mainly men who like fishing and drinking all day long 😵‍💫. And they think having a bushy beard and a dad bod is a personality trait.

The entitlement is too much. You got young single dads who want to dump their baggage on childless women. It’s super annoying that older men are lying and hitting up younger women.

A majority of men on those apps expect a lot from a woman without giving much in return.

I was browsing around and on a popular dating sub this one guy was proudly telling other men that it's okay to lie to women that you're looking for a relationship so they feel invested and will have sex with you early on. That you need to lie, like he and his friends do when using OLD, otherwise "the average guy will lose out". He bragged that he once got two women home on the same day by assuring them he was looking for an LTR. Then he had the nerve to say he doesn't like lying :((( but he wants to hook up with as many women as possible so he has to! Won't someone, please, feel bad for this poor guy! Several people chimed in to applaud him. Someone even said his post and the advice was "the best he has ever seen".

You can weed out these type of men if you use FDS guide lines but just the idea of having to waste time interacting with such spineless, selfish assholes makes me creeped out.

Have a gorgeous young friend who was struggling with the FOMO in relation to OLD. I downloaded one of the apps I tried long ago and reactivated it so I could show her what she was 'missing'. She agreed to swipe for 15 mins and see what I was talking about.

Well, 75% of the guys in our area we swiped left on in the 15 mins we used it were still there from 2 years ago. In 15 solid mins of swiping we did not find a single guy that was acceptable. ACCEPTABLE, not dateable!!

Ladies, just say no to OLD. It's literally an endless landfill of scrotacity. You will not find a diamond and you'll just get smelly and gross trying.

ETA; We also found two of the guys I work with on there. Both are married with kids, NOT in an open relationship, and over 40 & 50 but their age filters were set to 18+ 🤢🤮

I met my BF on OLD, and the one before that. I think it takes a lot of vetting, but if you have mastered the skill I see no issues. Since after college my time has been hella limited due to fulltime work, part time school, and just being tired going out and meeting someone is hard. OLD was one of my resources and after a bit I got the hang of it. I would give advice regarding it, but I doubt anyone wants to hear. Only thing I would say is that it take patience, shifting through a lot of shit, and knowing red flags right away.

Where I'm from, it's common for men to portray themselves as fuckboys (shirtless pics, gym pics, etc), having extremely desirable traits (extremely well-paid job, owns a posh car, etc... it seems too good to be true), or having extremely undesirable traits (unattractive selfies, being stuck in a boring dead end job that pays very little, etc). I just want a "normal" guy but it seems like most guys on OLD are not like that. For the small minority of guys with "normal" profiles, they never messaged me first. I can't help but feel like most men on OLD are just collecting matches to boost their ego.

Out of curiosity… are there any apps that are for relationships only and not hookups? All I hear from my friends on OLD is that all guys are after sex. I've met a number of guys from old who took me to proper dates and were quite decent (given the low bar) and weren't like the guys I normally read here (no job, unhygienic, etc). We just didn't work out because we were not compatible or I just thought I was ready for commitment but really wasn't.

It takes a lot of effort but if you filter them enough you can find decent guys who meet your minimum standard. Also, OLD is good for practicing your vetting strategies. Of course, just make sure you are being safe and are strictly upholding your boundaries. The times when I was screwed over were the times I didn't uphold my boundaries.

I had some awful experiences when I had my one and only attempt at online dating.

I had two dates. Lots of endless messaging about nothing.

First guy was just horribly hung up on his ex. I met him at my local bar where I felt safe and knew everyone. He spent the entire time talking about her. And how he was so sad... eventually the conversation turned to his severe mental illness. I rang a male friend to come and save me who then proceeded to turn up with a random guy straight out of jail who proceeded to heavily hit on me after saying he had earlier been at a brothel. Whole thing was a terrible idea.

Second guy I ended up seeing for a short time, and presented himself as having his shit together and being a genuinely nice bloke that was interested in 'something' but maybe a bit 'clueless' cough cough red flag. They are never clues. After seeing him for a couple of months we planned to meet and go back to a motel afterwards. He was REALLY LATE and by the time I had got myself a bit hammered. It was the winter so I had nowhere else to go but back with him.

Long story short as I was taking a shower, I realised he was filming me on his phone without my consent.

Luckily, I managed to safely get out of that one too!

Nothing makes me want to go back to online dating... even though I've got a tad more awareness and care than I did back then!!
