It depends on the man. If he has had a low amount of partners, it's likely that he wants someone with similar experience and shared values. If he's promiscuous, he's likely to think (perhaps subconsciously) that promiscuity in women (but not men) reflects some kind of damage. There are all kinds of reasons though, some of which I'd be more sympathetic to than others.

So, I'll project my reasoning as to why I wouldn't want a promiscuous male partner.

The perception or reality of uncleanliness. With STDs and then the ick factor of sharing in something that had a stranger's bodily fluids in or on it. It's not really rational, because dentist's reuse their instruments after sterilizing them. But people don't really sterilize their genitals with extreme temperature, so it doesn't feel truly clean.
Insecurity of being compared to other women. I don't want my body or my sexual prowess to be compared to other women. And the usual response of 'Oh if he's with you NOW and not them then he chose you'. But there's no guarantee there. It could be merely circumstance that ended his relationship with someone he thought was better.
Distrusting them for valuing casual sex. If they sought out ONS in the past, then it's gonna be a lot likelier that they would cheat that way.
Straight up jealousy. I'd get inside my own head imagining my partner with other people and it would make me mad.

So I think each of those might resonate with different dudes' reasoning.

I can give you an answer as a woman with a 0 n count. A high n count man seems gross to me. Lacks control, thinks sex is “whatever”, probably had an std before, and the fact that I picture him with those women. I want a guy who could have been with several women if he wanted to, but chose not to. Also, you can’t really feel special as a woman if a dude has been with many.

This is what I imagine some men may feel about women with high counts.

I think the main reason is that a large amount of male sexual behavior is egocentric. It's the same concern for low n count as high n count males. The core idea is, there are more men I'm compared to and so I do not necessarily withhold dominant stature in that group. This fear increases as the count increases. Being the best in comparison is not only a male trait, it's just dominant in make sexuality. In a lot of ways, male sexuality is less about women and more about the comparison a male can make to other males. A guy is going to like knowing that he is the best partner (in all categories) their partner has ever had to keep their self esteem high. This is true of males with higher social value as well, they just care less because they can find something different easier.

I think there is a delusion that partnership sustains that is ego affirming and though it manifests differently for each gender, the main egocentricity of sexuality is always present. You are being sexually selected above your peers which is validating as an individual. We seek this individual validation and desire it as much as we can which primarily comes through comparison. It's easier for a low n count male with low value in the SMP to want to find someone else with a low n count because their value will be inflated through a low sample size.

I’ll start by saying I don’t think that this is a universal truth, not even close.

But for those who are averse, my guess is that it might have something to do with the fact that men generally have way more to lose if she cheats. Past sexual activity doesn’t necessarily correlate to future outcomes, but the fear that it might is probably enough to deter some men.

One of men’s greatest fears in relationships is getting married and raising a kid he thought was his but isn’t biologically his. Another is getting married, having his wife leave him for another man, and then taking half or more of everything he’s earned, along with only getting to see his kids every other weekend. If she remarries, she now gets two men’s income to raise her children. Where as if the man gets remarried, he’ll likely be paying for both his kids and his new wife’s kids.

On average, women have so much less to lose in a cheating spouse situation. Men can lose everything, and we’ve seen it, with our brothers, our fathers, our uncles, and our friends.

Men get with women regardless of socioeconomic status. However, due to hypergamy, women tend to get with men of higher status.

It means they have plenty of people to compare to, which is a source of insecurity. They know grass is greener on the other side in certain ways. This could lead them to wanting something I could never provide but they know they can get. Plus, if I know they are "settling" based on knowledge of their past(especially if they ever say something like that themselves), then I'm always on guard that I will never be able to rest as they might leave to move up the SMV ladder.

I think it has more to do with compatibility. Men with few partners prefer women with few partners. But promiscuous men often prefer promiscuous women. Probably for the same reason women are, if you’re looking for a partner for a long term relationship someone who has a history of preferring the opposite is not gonna be a very appealing candidate.

And studies have shown that people who have had a lot of casual sex/high sociosexual people do struggle more in committed relationships. I think because men engaging in casual sex is more socially acceptable/encouraged, women tend to be more accepting of high sociosexual men. But most women definitely have reservations about long term relationships with men who have had a ton of casual sex.

Some sort of past trauma, lack of self/impulse control, daddy issues, emptiness they try to fill with sex, mental health issues in general, all those partners and nobody wanted to settle with her also may mean there's something bad there not visible on the surface. I mean, using the same generalisations I'd say men who are adverse to having relationships with women with extensive sexual relationships are either insecure about their own sexual history, are insecure about themselves and use their 'n count' (is that the right term...? It's terminology I've never seen outside this sub) as a measurement of their value and as such are intimidated by a similar number in their partners or are prudish. Anyway, from what I've read in the replys to the posited question it seems to boil down to the more sexual experiences a partner has had limits my chances at being 'the best they've ever had' and no one is going to want to pursue a relationship with me if I'm not up the top of the list so I'll limit the comparison points which will maximise my chances of being 'the best'.

I would contend that reasoning is so far off base it's not even wrong. It's a non-sequitur, the premises of your logic are flawed and as such your conclusion does not follow.

How would one quantify how good sex is and whether you're 'the best someone has ever had'? Is there a codified scoring system that no one has ever explained to me? Is it just how well a penis is thrust into a vagina? What if your partner prefers anal sex but that concept repulses you? How important is the duration of coitus? What about the composition of foreplay activities? If the foreplay is rubbish but the sex is good how does that score against amazing foreplay but average sex? If you go for an hour but nobody reaches climax is that better than a quickie that satisfies all involved? If you are not particularly physically attracted to your partner but the sex good how does that rank against sex that is average with total knock out?

Or what if you as a man are not satisfied but the woman you're copulating with is? Is that better than sex you, a man, is blown away by but your lovely female companion isn't? The first leaves you unsatisfied but at the top of your ladies list which seems to be the most important thing for a few of the respondents present. Is that what you want? 'Meh' intercourse that leaves you secure in you sexual prowess rather than sex you really enjoyed?

Given all of the above factors, which barely scratchs the surface of all the variables that you could introduce, how is one other sexual experience to compare to going to maximise your chance of being better? Even if you are better than the other one how does that guarantee that being 'the best they've ever had' is going to satisfy your partner? Can you think of something that you've experienced multiple times that you didn't really find satisfaction in until you got better at it?

My point is that the quality of any experience is completely subjective.

Say you love watching TV shows, does that mean every TV show watching experience is just as good as any other? Does everybody have the exact same experience watching the same TV show? Does everybody who enjoys watching TV shows enjoy watching the same shows? If so do they enjoy the same episodes of the same shows and for the same reasons? Have you ever watched an episode of a TV show that you thought was average the first time you watched it but loved by the time you rewatched it multiple times?

How many variables would you need to include to provide even an approximation of a decent quantification of something as mundane as watching TV?

From my own experience sex with someone that you are really attracted to, which for me comes down to a lot more than the 'quality of sex', is a lot more enjoyable than sex with someone your not attracted to. It's ineffable, it's something that you reflect on and go 'that was great'. Why? Who cares, it was amazing and if you tried to define why you would come up short.

Listen, stop worrying about external factors that you can't control and back yourselves. Stop trying to quantify why you're gonna come up short before you even try.

Comparison is the thief of joy, so focus on attaining joy rather than the reasons you can't find it or why even if you think you could find it you're not going to be able to keep it.

For most sexual history is deeply personal and you only talk about it with your close friends or not at all. When you get to know someone (in the context of dating), this isn’t a topic that would come up while grabbing coffee/getting dinner, this is something you’re probably going to find out later down the road after quite a few months once you already know this person, like them, and are usually with them exclusively. (Exceptions would be you knew this person previously as a friend and knew their sexual history or have mutual friends of some sort that would clue you into an extensive sexual history).

So what I’m getting at here from a practical POV, is this something that you find out after months of being together, loving the person otherwise and will really end the relationship for that- or are you all under the impression that it’s appropriate as a first date or opener to find that out?

Neither really seem appropriate to me and goes to show that IMO a person’s past sexual history is just that- the past. Granted they have been safe and harbor no diseases it really should not make a difference.
