"Men who date younger women are insecure or predatory. It’s creepy. If a 35-year-old man dates an 18-year-old woman, he’s clearly insecure or predatory. Why can’t he find someone his own age?"

Who determines what is “creepy”? “Creepy” is a subjective moral judgment used as a smokescreen when objective arguments fail. You call him creepy, but the relationship itself, consensual and mutually beneficial, does not hinge on your feelings. The fact is, younger women are often biologically and socially predisposed to prefer older men because older men bring stability, resources, and emotional maturity. This is not manipulation; this is natural selection in action. Read Trivers’ Parental Investment Theory (1972) or any study in evolutionary psychology, and you’ll see that age-gap pairings are biologically advantageous for both parties.

Insecurity? What’s insecure about exercising choice? If men at their peak financial and social status choose younger, more fertile partners, that is rational behavior, not insecurity. Calling it insecurity is a deflection. Would you call a woman who rejects a broke man “insecure”? No. You’d call her discerning. Why, then, do men face ridicule for discerning preferences of their own? Cognitive dissonance.

The hypocrisy of age-gap outrage. Let me remind you: women disproportionately prefer older men. A global study of 12,000 participants across 45 countries by David Buss found that women prefer older men, on average. If women can seek older partners because they have higher status and resources, why can’t men seek younger partners because they have greater fertility and beauty? You celebrate women’s hypergamy but vilify men for their preferences. This is hypocrisy, plain and simple.

If you find a consensual relationship between a 35-year-old man and an 18-year-old woman “creepy,” yet support women’s right to autonomy, then you are infantilizing adult women. Either women are empowered to make choices about their lives, or they aren’t. Pick one. You can’t claim “women are strong, independent beings” and then turn around and imply an 18-year-old woman is too stupid or naive to date whom she pleases.

“He only dates younger women because women his age don’t want him. It’s a red flag. If he’s choosing 18-year-olds, it’s because women his age see through him. He’s a loser.”

Let’s follow this logic to its absurd conclusion. You are saying that older women have rejected this man because his value is low, correct? But if he is still able to attract and date younger, more attractive women, what does that say about his value? Clearly, it remains high enough for the group that matters most to him. This is not an indictment of his worth; it is an indictment of older women’s inflated standards.

Women his age “seeing through him”? No, women his age are often disqualifying him because he does not meet their increasingly unrealistic demands. Modern dating data reveals that 80% of women are competing for the top 20% of men. Women filter men through a hyper-specific lens: six-figure salary, physical attractiveness, emotional vulnerability, charisma, height, the list goes on. Women self-eliminate themselves from the dating pool by pricing themselves out. That is not the man’s problem; it’s theirs.

Why would he settle? If a 35-year-old man is at his peak, successful, fit, and in control of his life, why would he settle for women who bring less to the table (in beauty, youth, or fertility)? The reality is that women age 30+ are competing against younger women who haven’t spent years in toxic relationships, who don’t come with emotional baggage, and who are at their reproductive prime. From a biological and logical perspective, he has no incentive to choose women his age when he has better options available.

“It’s about power imbalance. He’s manipulating her because she’s young and naive. An older man dating a younger woman is a power imbalance. He’s taking advantage of her.”

This is the most condescending and disempowering argument of all. Are women autonomous or not? You cannot have it both ways. Either women are empowered beings with full agency over their decisions, or they are helpless children. An 18-year-old woman can vote, join the military, consent to marriage, and make life-changing financial decisions. To claim that she’s too naive to choose her romantic partner is both infantilizing and insulting.

Mutual benefit. You frame this as “manipulation,” but what exactly is being manipulated? The relationship dynamic is a trade-off: he provides stability, status, and experience; she provides youth, beauty, and fertility. That’s not manipulation, that’s a biological exchange that has underpinned human mating behavior for millennia.

Younger women choose these relationships willingly. The argument collapses under the weight of its own logic. If younger women are so naive, why do so many actively seek older, higher-status men? According to data from dating sites like OkCupid and Tinder, women across all age groups overwhelmingly prefer men with greater financial and social stability. This is not manipulation, it is women pursuing what benefits them.

You don’t call it a “power imbalance” when a woman marries a billionaire twice her age, because society has conditioned you to accept women’s hypergamy as normal. But when men act on their preferences, biologically and logically valid, you cry foul. Hypocrisy.

Women want providers; men want beauty. both are valid. Women want men with resources, status, and power, traits that signal security and protection for future offspring. Men want women who are beautiful, youthful, and fertile, traits that signal reproductive fitness and long-term health. These preferences are not “shallow.” They are evolutionarily hardwired.

The difference? Society has given women a free pass for their standards while condemning men for theirs.

Women shame men for being broke. Men shame women for being unattractive. Both are exercising choice. One is accepted; the other is vilified. Why?

If women can openly reject men who don’t meet their financial and status standards, why can’t men reject women who don’t meet their standards of youth and beauty? If women are “empowered” for being selective, why are men “predatory” for doing the same? Either admit your preferences are no less “shallow” than men’s, or concede that you are a hypocrite. Which is it?
