The complaint from men on this site is that women “put them on the shelf” and don’t want a relationship with them until that woman has “had her fun” and now she feels she must now settle for the relationship type. Then there is much concern that these women will not respect them and take them for granted.

Additionally many men feel the humiliation of being a woman’s second/last choice is intolerable.

These men want loving happy relationships but feel this is something modern women do not value, or that they do not value until later in life when they have accrued more “experience” aka emotional baggage.

Men want reationships, with some women. Remember for a relationship they need to want to actually spend time with you for the sake of spending time with you on a daily or near daily basis.

The kind of behavior expected of men dating does not make them like spending time with those women in many cases. If I had a best friend who expected me to pay for everything every hangout and drive all the conversations I wouldn't want to hang out with them either.

If you want a relationship, you need to be the kind of person that someone wants to spend the rest of their life with. But a lot of women don't seem to get that and frame romance as a thing done to them and not a thing the man also experiences.

The problem is investing financially and emotionally into a woman that ain’t worth it (not that physically attractive, promiscuous and cheating prone, materialistic, doesn’t really like you for you and not loyal). I do want a relationship, not casual sex, but I understand the logic. A lot of relationships entail lots of stress, and they don't necessarily all entail that much sex. A relationship is a big emotional investment, time investment, and often monetary investment, not to mention the opportunity cost. The juice might not be worth the squeeze.

Relationship sex, where you have to ask for it, and be turned down is degrading for men - even if society doesn't tell you that. It's like being told you're fat most times you ask or make yourself a bit pretty.

Sex is a bonding behavior and it's the main source of physical affection men are receptive to naturally. We need that body, we need for you to moan our name and radiate that feminine energy that powers up our will and fire. Being told no, or made to feel like that fire is a chore as meaningless as cleaning the bathroom or some work assignment is detestable - and a the true form of objectification in our society. Men that ogle IG models want to spend time with them, love them, kiss them. But most wifes see their husbands as valets they need to jerk of when they stop working properly and talk back. Sure - they love them, but within the limits they feel comfortable with. Women have made it very clear that giving the love a man needs, is shameful and disgraceful, women have no obligation to love a man they way he wants to be loved.

So the current framing of relationship sex is a very bad deal for most men that have some self respect but aren't hot enough for women to be literally asking for it and get a hook up.

Speaking for myself - I don't want to be responsible for a woman's happiness. Especially a woman I care about and cares about me. I think most modern women are utterly miserable and have fundamentally fucked up believes that actively prevent them from having the life that makes feel happy long term. And in a relationship - all that dissonance, and all that frustration will inevitably channeled towards the man, sooner, and maybe even later.

I heard one FDS lady say something extremely true, even if her inference was bonkers: most women in relationships live a life of quiet despair or regret. Either dreaming of her better life that she abandoned, or crushed at what the ideal relationship is actually like. As someone that fucked a lot of women in relationships - I can 100% confirm this. I do not want to be stuck to a woman that fears leaving me, but otherwise can not stand me and is convincing herself every day to get out of bed and be civil.

I think I am the best partner I can be if I just show up for a date, give my lady friend a good exciting time, and then leave leaving her to go about the rest of her quite busy life. Similarly I appreciate a lady that comes in, leaves her issues at the door, we pretend we're protagonists of a smut novel for a few hours or days, and then we part ways with the lasting impression being our best selves.

If it was still taboo to have sex before marriage, most men would be down with commitment and would go with society’s flow. It's not necessarily the choice between the two. It would be nice to look for your Ms. Right, and get laid here and there in the process or outside of it. In short, men just want to be attractive.

The thing is, value of men is different as a person and as a (person+commitment). It's quite disheartening if women consider you only as a part of this (person+commitment) equation. Of course, you feel like you are a consolation prize if you need to provide extra on top of yourself. It feels like you have to compensate for your deficiencies.

Here is an analogy for you to get some perspective. Imagine, a wizard casts a spell and since that moment half of women are attractive only if they build a brick wall. So, you are at a date with a guy, and he asks "What about your wall?". You try to impress him with the pictures of your wall and talk about your bricklaying skills. He says "Oh, nice, I need some time to decide if your wall is compatible with me. See you later, today's evening I'm going to hook up with that girl".

Yep, also men want a wall when they are 25-30 years old, so you are kinda alone before that time.

As a guy who could find dates, I noticed that I would run into problems if I did not immediately try to sleep with a woman. It seems like women feel this need to throw themselves at guys hoping to get them interested. I don’t blame or want to shame anyone but rushing the physical side screws a potential relationship every time. It also does not help when women are having kids with these absolute zero’s and then look for something series with another man. I am happily married now and have two young sons. I am a little nervous for them!

To guys, if it ain’t working…try something different to meet a woman…don’t sit on this sub feeling sorry for yourself. There are great ladies out there but there are also losers. You need to learn how to be good in a relationship…this shit is hard!

The majority of guys want a relationship but due to women’s standards, society, and parenting many can’t get into relationships with women. Most of the guys only indulging in casual sex are top tier alphas and pua types. They won’t settle for average or below average women because they don’t have to like the majority of men. People talk about relationships in terms of looks and beat that shit into the ground, but I always thought that looking at things in terms of stability always made more sense, and frankly, as a guy, that can be the hardest thing to read on women because they’re good at mirroring you if they find you attractive.

I knew my two LTR’s probably wouldn’t make for good long term partners and that lack of trust added a lot of strain to the relationships, but I don’t think I was wrong either.

So that’s why I don’t foresee myself wanting an LTR again for a very long time, if ever. Not worth the stress, not worth the effort to sift through women on dating sites, and I don’t have the temperament to deal with bullshit like shit testing from women that have bounced around 3 or more “serious” relationships since they were 18. And I’m in the second half of my 20’s so women my age seem real fucking antsy about my career plans/family plans/on and fucking on.

Plus, for every happy couple I’ve known since high school or college there’s at least 2 or 3 relationships I’ve seen or heard about that look like they would send me through a brick wall. And, men in the latter relationships that I’ve seen, including ones in my own family, seem to have a sort of pseudo zen attitude with their partner whenever they’re obviously frustrated or disappointed with something she’s doing. Like a quiet, sulky response because they don’t care enough to start an argument or conversation about it. No thanks. That gives me secondhand embarrassment.

I want a monogamous, lifelong relationship so badly (it's the only thing I am looking for actually, and I would never partake in any kind of casual or temporary romance) but I am just not sure how to bring it into reality.

I am very behind my peers in terms of finances, career, independance, social skills, and relationship experience. Men want relationships but a lot of women are fickle so I think men would rather be extremely hesitant and try to be 100% sure that's she's down. Rather than to commit to some who may just lose feelings for "no reason" and leave the relationship.

Some women love to throw around that men don't commit but their weak version of commitment only lasts until the relationship gets rocky or "boring". I don’t think I’d be a good fit for a relationship. I have been diagnosed with depression, anxiety and I suspect myself to have ADHD and some sort of Personality Disorder. On top of being introverted and quite to myself, every relationship after a while feels like I’m drowning. It’s too much for me.
The variety of partners genuinely seems like a much better deal. To me, it’s better have casual sex and figure out it’s not that special to you, or to be able to have casual sex if you’d like, than not being able to get any and then get a relationship as a makeshift solution to fact that you lack physical intimacy and often go years without.
I am completely willing to admit that this may be irrational and ego fueled, but I don’t want to be someone who’s feels as though they’re waiting in the wings for a woman. I don’t want to be in my 30s with little to no experience under my belt dating a woman that has much more than me. I believe that experience gaps aren’t good for relationships and I think that’s an easy way for me to resent my partner and for my partner to feel like there’s more pressure on them that they’re comfortable with.

This is my reason. It's too hard to maintain attraction when in a relationship. My partners have always gotten tired and bored of me. I resent the responsibilities that come with being in a relationship (gifts/her friend's events/extended family events etc) and that resentment just bleeds into everything. My partners also develop this entitlement which is one of the most ugly traits in a woman. There's an expectation of me to always do more, more, more. Nothing is ever enough. There doesn't reach a point where I can relax and say 'ahhhh my work is done'. There's no such thing as building 'good credit' with a woman. It's not what have you done for me, it's what have you done for me lately. So that resentment just builds until it boils over and we breakup. That was my experience right throughout my 20's. Now 30's, casual dating is where women give me their best. They're extremely affectionate, passionate, attentive, generous. There feels like a genuine 50/50 effort to make each other happy.

I prefer relationships. Even just sexually, they are superior to hookups. The best sex comes from a woman who knows she is going to have good sex with you. On top of that, there's companionship, love, comfort, figuratively having somebody to help you up when you fall, and so on. All of my sexual partners have been fwb or girlfriends, and I have never had sex with a lady fewer than 3 times. I'll use my self for an example I'm wealthy have a great home life lots of hobbies and activities cars motorcycles video games I really enjoy life

Marriage is out of the question for me I have to much to loose no woman is worth the risk.

Children with a woman is out of the question for me not worth the risk and I can afford surrogacy.

Monogamy I won't do it I can't have my access to sex controlled by the whims of one woman..

With those four off the table few women would want a relationship with me

Nah, the crux of the problem is that women want what they want, the way they want, when they want it, right now. And we can say "men do too", fine, but we don't get that women do.

If a woman is having her 'hot girl summer" she'll treat sex like a party and men like they're fuck toys... and then, if the next day she wants a relationship (usually to lock down one of those fuckboys that satisfies her hypergamy - for now) all of a sudden "men ain't shit" and "where have all the good men gone" and "men are SCARED of commitment".

What is this concept that men don't want relationships based on in the first place? Most dudes will keep coming back like a stray if you feed him once. What I, and likely a lot of other men, really don't like is the relationship escalator. When a woman is constantly, "so what are we now?", "we did X so we must do Y", just go go go, never content. Those women can never really be happy, and most men don't like that vibe once they've felt its darkness.

If I had the guarantee (or at least high probabilities) of not being cuckolded in a relationship with a woman I'd probably feel quite enthusiastic towards the idea of having a girlfriend or wife. Unfortunately, in this day and age, and from my perspective, the odds of a woman cheating in a courtship or marriage seem high and that makes me feel some angst and anger when I imagine myself in a relationship. The idea of striving and making sacrifices for a woman while she humiliates you by having sex with another man (or men) is something that makes my blood boil.

It should also be noted that once you learn that, thanks to dating apps and modernity, there are men having constant sex with numerous women without the commitments and problems of traditional relationships maybe you come to think: "hey!, I want a life like that too!"

Some men like relationships but find it increasingly difficult to meet relationship material women.

For example the majority of women interested in me past a certain age have been party girls who've fooled around with a bunch of a dudes. Since I don't have casual sex myself (I'm not even the type of guy who could push for it), but also don't consider these women relationship material, nothing happens.

Because people annoy me and leave me mentally drained after even a short time being around them. Also kids are irritating and gross and I have less than zero interest in starting a family.

why don’t you prefer relationships?

Most men want relationships, they just dont have the value required to obtain one.

Why do men get so hung-up on relationships? What really is the problem with “strings attached”?

Most who are able to obtain relationships usually are not interested in them cause FWB, ONS and FBs offer every single positive of a relationship, without most of the costs and risks of a relationships.

I.e. they get sex, and a bit of affection, and dont have to spend any meaningfully big amount of investment of his limited time, effort, energy, money or patience, there is very little a GF or a wife can offer to add, and they require A LOT more of a man, not to speak of the risks of having a relationship, like having to deal with HER problems 24/7, if her grandpa dies, it is HIS problem too, for example.

If most guys COULD get relationships easily, they would get to the same conclusion from the guys who can already get them... that a FwB, ONS or FB is better. And a GF or wife are wastes of precious resources.

If men are complaining about getting no sex when single, would it be better to get some sex in a relationship? Why is that seen as a consolation prize

It is not seen as a consolation prize, It is just better than being Completely sexless.

Look, FwBs, FBs and ONSs arent exclusive relationships, if you arent satisfied with what one has to offer, you can get up to 5 without it even getting close to the cost, and risk of a single GF or wife... so WHY on earth anyone would have a relationship?... I will tell you, lack of options. And well... thats the reason we consider relationships the second worst option...

Most men I know want relationships

BUT most also find women are lazy in relationships, don’t put much effort in dating and etc. So often times feels like work
