The current main tactic is gaslighting you that they aren’t actually anti men and when you show evidence then they resort to no true Scotsman arguments.

I’m fairly convinced there are a large amount of “controlled opposition” fake posts on feminists subs where you’ll often see a caricatured misogynistic post on askfeminists or something then they proceed to circlejerk and keep the post up and then when level headed/rational criticisms are made in posts, they immediately get deleted and perma banned.

To be fair, this isn't just something native to "feminist subs". This is the nature of Reddit in general. Any subreddit can ban you for whatever reason they want. There is no accountability for who mods ban. You can be on a cars sub and start talking about jeeps and get banned. You can be on a cake subreddit and say a cake looks like a pokemon and get banned. Most political subreddits will ban any post that isn't in their favor. Reddit creates echo chambers and a lot of subs aren't moderated in good faith.

I hear you because I get dragged when I see something from the men’s point of view. And they love calling me a pick me for it. Ultimately, I have found that those kinds of women need groups like that because they can’t stand on their own. They need the shielding of a collective because they are not brave enough to go it alone. So I made my peace at not being welcome in those circles. I know that the things that I say piss men and women off equally.

Just look at this sub, you're way more likely to get blocked by the feminist posters. They come to a debate sub and then get super offended that you'd dare debate them, then block you, but never without getting the last word in. I would be surprised if anyone had been blocked by one of the red pill identified people.

If someone makes a sub because they like discussing the cinematography of a movie they like, they'd probably also block someone that just comes into the sub just to say how much they hate the movie and don't think anyone should watch it. Or a Christian sub where people want to discuss The Book of Mark, and someone comes along to talk about how they're Atheist and don't believe in the Bible.

I agree with this! I do find certain feminist or women spaces do get in their own head about their victimhood and how they need to shut out "toxic" people, when they just disagree with them.

I have my suspicions on that, but I also think many women are getting better on it.

I think a lot of is 1. Genuine fragility but I think for male feminists it’s 2. Not wanting to entertain toxicity.

Which I totally get, hell I see it in this sub and wonder about it. But it comes at the cost of genuine growth. Generalizations can help build heuristics which actually benefit peoples lives.

i remember a thread on a feminist subreddit where OP asked why single moms raising kids is such a problem for some people. i linked a statistic that showed the correlation between single mother homes and crime, sex work, drug addiction etc and it was swiftly deleted.

Most feminists do. However I do agree when some feminists say that it's a stupid request to ask for feminist women to do. Most issues for men (viewed from a feminist perspective) is because of the patriarchy, therefore while fighting to get rid of toxic gender roles it will by default also make mens lives better. Examples would be parental rights, mental health, emotional security. Something I see pop up often from manosphere content is that men do not get DV shelters, something that is mostly true. Women put those up for each other, survivors start them, women donate. Women flock to each other for help and to help. Men do not (generally) do the same. For me it makes more sense for men to start their own DV shelters cause generally, in hetro relationships it is common not to feel safe around the opposite gender when recovering from DV.

This "all men" shit has been reiterated more times than I can even imagine. I have yet to meet a feminist irl who actually think that it's "all men". However, how is a person to know? Bad guys do not have a limp or a sign, a special sign. Women get taught early that we need to at the very least be mindful and careful. We do not know if the guy walking behind us is a rapist ™ or just a guy walking home. Not to mention the fact that most women who have been assaulted has that done to them by someone they know - BF, husband, father etc.

Female abusers and predators definitely exist but is it systemic in the culture you live in? Is it excused as "female nature" etc.

Getting your info about people from going on reddit is generally an awful way to go about it, some communities are great but generally when it comes to deep subjects where your world views are generally just completely different it's hard to find any type of common ground. I will say that on "debate forums/ask forums" upvote and downvotes are usually synonyms to "agree/disagree" so you getting down voted for saying you got better care from male dr vs female dr is pretty much to be expected, since men are notoriously bad for treating women in the medical field.

I've gotten the impression that "activist" subs are mildly to extremely hostile to anyone perceived to be opposing or even just distracting from their "mission." People with critical views aren't just that, people with different views, they're "infiltrators" and trolls trying to frustrate and put obstacles in the way of your goals. Are they three-letter glowies? Foreign agents? Operatives from an (((NGO)))? (To be fair, it is of course true that various forces and organisations do seek to influence and shape public opinion, but where does this kind of allegation stop?) It's easy for people to start thinking and acting like they're e-agents in an e-spy movie.

Just to give an example I'm familiar with: the Asian pride types. Even subs like /r/asianamerican/ will bring down the hammer if you question their sacred cows or say something judged to be inflammatory or whitesplaining stuff, while /r/sino/, /r/aznidentity/, /r/sinophobiawatch/ etc. will often ban you if your comment history shows you're white unless you're a card-carrying tankie with the comment history to demonstrate it. I'm willing to bet most of the politically-charged subs are like this.

I was banned from one for saying sex work is legitimate work and if we could maybe have a genuine discussion that didn’t include abuse at the center of it. Abuse is bad. We already know that. I’m not talking about teens coerced, women forced, trafficking, or any other form of abuse. Survival sex work sucks but is a necessity in a capitalist society where we don’t take care of our poor, disabled, elderly and children. Can we talk about how it’s okay if a woman or man chooses to do sex work and how we can make her/him safe to do so. How it isn’t a slight against feminism that I choose to be a sex worker. How I wish my sisters stood up for me (and survival sex workers) in a way that doesn’t reduce us to inherit victims of abuse. I’m a victim of the patriarchy. I’m a victim of capitalism. Sex work doesn’t make me a victim. Sex work was empowering in a way being a therapist who owns their own business was empowering to me personally and I know I’m not the only one. I got out and still do not find my time as a sex worker to be a negative experience.

And I got banned for not saying sex work is inherently bad. Like that was the message from the mods - that any discussion of sex work has to inherently focus on abuse otherwise we are not advocating for them. But like all the conversations are about abuse. Why can’t I advocate for a viable line of work that can save lives if it was regulated appropriately? Sex work is abusive in the same way any other work is - if it had HR and legal protections like it is in other countries, we would be able to center the discussion of trafficking around trafficking and sex work around sex work. Those are two different things. I centered my discussion around what policies could be put in place and everything - very well researched comment with sources and everything.

And I was blocked. Most of the feminist subs are actually toxic or extremist. In the way the R/BP is. I don’t go to them for any legitimate information because it will always be through a certain lens that I don’t agree with. Patriarchy hurts everyone. There is a hierarchy. Intersectionality is how different points of oppression and privilege intersect with one another. Like being a white man will always trump a black man - but now a poor white man and a rich black man - that’s not so clear cut and cannot be placed into the hierarchy so neatly - it has to be looked at on a case by case basis for the particular incident. Because a white man has an easier time getting jobs within his level of expertise because he is white and a man(a study did identical resumes and just changed the names to names typically associated with poc and those names got fewer calls by quite a large margin), but his income prevents him from the networking that happens in higher classes, he may not be able to dress as nicely to an interview, may not have had the educational opportunities, etc.

Unfortunately many of these “feminist” subs on look at male versus female and typically remove trans and NB people from their feminism (unless it’s to misgender them.) They rarely ever look at intersectionality, how patriarchy hurts men (besides the platitude “patriarchy hurts men too!” And never dives into it. It’s one thing to be like patriarchy hurts men in this way because women are seen as inferior and if you’re seen as feminine, you’re seen as inferior too, or men are forced into the provider role because women are forced into the caretaker role, like referencing through a feminist lens but so many just discount men altogether. “Oh you think you have it bad? What about women? It’s just as shitty as “well what about men?” You can say “this thing is like this because patriarchy tells us this. But to just wholesale discount - I don’t like it.) and finds anything that challenges their views to be an attack on women.

That’s my diatribe as to why most of us need to separate ourselves from extremist ideology and views and quite literally, go touch grass.

I may be far from an expert, but, I will try to answer your questions as best I can. Running off the assumption that you are posting in good faith.

Why can't they advocate for men too?

In short, most feminists do advocate for men. The general idea is that concepts such as "toxic masculinity" and the "patriarchy" are issues that impact both men and women.

Lets look at an example. When I see MRA's advocate in good faith, primarily the concept they circle around to time and time again is the idea of "male disposability". If we dissect this claim a bit further, who is disposing of these men?" To me, and to many other feminists, the answer is that the patriarchy doesn't value the lives of the men not at the top of the patriarchy, and as such sees them as disposable.

You also see this all the time in mens issues such as mental health support and others. One of the best examples of toxic masculinity is men refusing to get help for preventable or treatable mental issues- such as anxiety- because there is a fear that it will make them seem less strong, or more importantly, less masculine. By dismantling toxic masculinity, we also dismantle a lot of the hyper machismo that is one of the leading causes of men suffering. Toxic masculinity is not "strong man = bad" Toxic masculinity is the fear of being called out and attacked by other men for not living up to an ever shifting standard of masculinity.

I put these two examples forward because obviously a movement tracing back to the initial women's rights movements is more focused on women than men. So the vast majority of feminist theory is focused around women. That makes sense. But to say that men don't have a place in feminism is just wrong, and a feminist world is generally one that is better for both men and women.

This is a disengenous framing of the issues here. The real problem with "not all men" is that it is often employed as a thought ending cliche to avoid a conversation about a real or otherwise important issue. It is a true statement, but it is not a valid response to what is being discussed.

For example, if we are having a conversation about the issues of sexual assault on college campuses, and someone brings up the statement "not all men are rapists". Obviously, that is a true statement, but it doesn't dress the main issue of why it happens so much more frequently, i.e. the culture in college campuses about the glorification of getting girls drunk to sexually take advantage of them. Generally speaking, nobody is saying "all me are rapists". However, this concept is generally foisted upon feminism by people trying to create a strawman to argue against rather than the actual problems feminism tries to address.

Of course there are exceptions- as is human nature. There are feminist philosophers who have written things like "all penetrative sex is rape." see Andrea Dworkin. However she doesn't represent all feminists, and I would be more inclined to read statements like that as a provocative statement to start a conversation- similar to the infamous "a modest proposal".

Did you notice that you put your hand on the scale there? You added the word happy to "unorthodox" relationships.

So first, the types of relationships women tend to be wary of, are those that include- often multiple- red flags. Things like large age gaps, but generally those are not just the age gap, but also cases where a younger woman is pressured to have multiple children even possibly before she is ready, as well as commonly seeing "unplanned" pregancies that force her to get married before she is ready- things like baby trapping. Moreover, a lot of the behavior being complained about is manipulative tactics from a man.

Those are the types of "unorthodox relationshis" that tend to fire red flags off for feminists who are desperate to reach out the young woman because many of them have empathy and have been abused in similar ways in the past.

So first, in the grand scheme of things, feminism advocates for women having the ability to make their own choices, and is generally open to women living how they choose. You should contrast the general feminist zeitgeist with the general right wing zeitgeist. The conservative deification of the "tradwife" and the demonization of feminist women or women in professional careers immediatly comes to mind about being more "anti-women living different lives"

Second, feminism is generally not anti-men. But you have to remember that a lot of people who find feminism are people who are coming off very toxic and abusive relationships with men. So some bitterness is to be expected, its not always healthy, but sometimes people need to vent. I would point out that to the extent misandry is an issue on feminist subs is a far cry from the misogyny on anti-feminist subs. Moreover, regardless of any individual member, feminism on the whole is not anti-men.

As for anti trans? Radical Feminists, especially Trans Exclusionary Radical Feminists (TERFs) are by and large a minority of feminists and most feminists and feminist organizations have denounced them. But diversity of thought and disagreeing voices is going to come up in any movement.

Generally speaking most feminists are what we would call "liberal feminists" who by and large are alligned with LGBTQ+ causes such as trans rights. And there is a lot of overlap beween the movements. LGBTQ+ people in general are largely going to support feminist causes such as abortion, and trans women who pass generally face a lot of the same treatment and abuse that cis women do that feminists are concerned with. Not even addressing the fact that the lesbian community has always been heavily involved with womens rights and feminism.

Its not suprising that two groups who generally advocate for combating patriarchal stigma and bucking against the yolk of the status quo are in agreement on most issues (LGBTQ+ and Feminism). This is why most feminists (libfem) are also in favor of trans rights, and most trans people themselves identify as feminists. They are symbiotic movements that share a lot of the same goals.

Just don't confuse radfem and libfem, as they are very different and radfem is not a representative of all feminists. They are a loud vocal minority and have somehow become single issue feminists focused on trans erasure.

Because that isn't what those subs are for. If you want a debate go to a different subreddit.

Generally speaking, the feminist sub generally assumes feminism is correct, and posters there are expected to already be on the same page with respect to it. That is why subs like this exist, because debate threads are more appropriate here than in TBP (which is a subreddit that exists to mock TRP) or in TRP.

So it is with feminism. If you want to debate or ask questions about feminism use a different subreddit, like:

Ask Feminists! ( A place to ask questions about feminists and what they believe)

Feminism Meta (A place to ask questions concerning the direction of feminism itself)

The reason that different subreddits exist is so that they can focus on different things. If you want to have conversations with a feminist about feminism and feminist positions on things, use of those subreddits- that are built for those types of discussions and have people ready to have them.

If you want to advocate for men, don't go into a space that's specifically dedicated to a movement for ending women's oppression. All the people who whine about feminists not talking enough about men fail to realise (or care) that, while individual feminists may talk about men's issues, it's not a feminist topic as it's outside the scope of the movement. Supporting women who are living according to patriarchal conventions is also outside the scope, they are already praised by mainstream society for conforming. Feminist subreddits are about a specific topic and have a real problem with men coming in and ignoring the topic and making it about men. You wouldn't complain about someone going into the crochet subreddit and having their post about quilting removed or their post saying there are better hobbies out there and people should do those instead. I would question why you think it's okay when it comes to women talking about their rights, but I already know the answer. (Your male doctors post was just supporting patriarchal ideas the movement is working to dismantle. This was not the place to post about that, and off topic means you get downvoted.)

That’s how reddit is. I was banned from the feminism subreddit during a time when I was actively reading about feminism and actively identifying as a feminist, for asking the wrong question (IIRC, it was long ago).

Subs like that are not spaces for a broad discussion. They are meant for people who all basically agree with each other and have the same base of knowledge.

This sub is an exception. There is still a narrative here (which is, dating is messed up for both men and women). I’d probably be downvoted for claiming there were no problems in the gender and dating world. But, it’s a pretty good place for having discussions. I think the discussions are how we build common ground and understanding. If we are afraid of saying the wrong thing, there’s no way to have a real discussion.

I’m not against safe spaces either, it can be exhausting being questioned all the time. But, it’s important to know what kind of space you are in.

They block certain conversations for the same reason any subreddit blocks certain conversations. To provide an environment in which the topics they care most about being present are present and people are paying attention and participating in the way the mods wish them to. If left alone and not curated any online space goes one or both of two ways. Totally deserted or porn, spam, trolling, illegal shit and aggression You don't like the way those communities are curated. You don't like the way you can't just use a space someone else has created in any way you want. You want the attention of the people in that space who were attracted to what that space is but you also want to participate in that space in ways that inevitably would destroy the character of that space. You're not really being deprived of anything other than the right to enjoy the fruits of other people's labour in creating and shaping other subreddit unless you play by their rules.

The internet is like a world with endless land. You can plough, sow, water, tend and harvest your very own field if you wish.

Maybe try a sub like /r/askfeminists to get answers if you have questions. You think /r/mensrights are friendly and open to questions? (They aren’t).

To answer your questions tho:

They do advocate for men.

No one says all men are abusive nor do they deny women can be. There is the idea that women are victims more often due to old data, it takes a bit for people to catch on to new information.

No one cares about unorthodox relationships as long as it’s truly her choice, she has the same rights and ability to exit a bad situation, and she doesn’t insist that structure is the correct way to have a relationship and that women who don’t do it are offending god.

Not sure what you mean by different lives.

Wow, a male dr gave you, a man, good medical care? And that means that women surely cannot have a bad experience with a dr? Like are you listening to the faulty ass “point” you’re making? Ignoring someone’s medical issues for years and potentially allowing someone to die (happens to men too to be clear) is not the same as an overworked nurse simply being short with you.

Overall I don’t think you have a very good understanding of feminism. Also keep in mind that not even all feminists agree with each other, don’t write off the whole movement because you disagree with some factions. Feels as if you’ve made up your mind tho

Because feminism is about women. This is like saying “why can’t BLM advocate for white lives too?” Or “why can’t we celebrate straight people on pride day?” It’s not that men don’t matter, just like it’s not that white or straight people don’t matter. It’s just that when you try to include EVERYONE all the time, discussions about issues unique to certain demographics quickly get derailed.

Feminist subs also have to be strict because there’s a lot of hostility toward them on Reddit and without moderation, they would get flooded with hate that is not constructive for discussion.

All that being said, do I think these subs are too much of an echo chamber? Yes. I’ve been auto-banned from most of them simply for belonging to this sub or feminist subs that they deemed the wrong kind of feminism. I get that they’re trying to keep out what I discussed in the previous paragraph, but they’re also keeping out a lot of feminists who simply are neither rad fems nor lib fems and like to consider different viewpoints.

Some do, but it's easier to energise your tribe if they have an enemy - something to rally against. For feminism, they start with 'Patriarchy' and via some sleight of hand somehow maculinity/men are the enemy.

It's also much easier to defeat straw men than the actual issues of the side you have demonised. Nobody wants to realise that their chosen bad guys are real people with their own world view, that weakens their own position.

I think that's a really tiny sliver of feminists who are that.

To me that just means that the ciriticisms of feminism you have been hearing are effortlessly defeating a feminism straw man.
