I don’t know man… telling your partner what they can and can’t wear is definitely on the controlling side. It’s played out plenty in other cultures/countries and time periods.

I also feel like a lot of the responses about compatibility, preferences, and just not dating people who go to clubs is a little misguided too. It’s not so binary. Everything these days is distilled down to strong boundaries and the quest to find the perfect matching puzzle piece. With dating tension and a bit of a war of the sexes going on right now, I feel like a lot of people in our generation forget that it’s actual love and respect, and the kindness generated from it, that holds two people together. They’re with each other because they want to be.

If one person is a reasonable amount of insecure about something (their partner wearing revealing clothes in clubs for example) and the other person is a reasonable amount of just wanting to have fun and feel sexy, I’m sure both partners can talk it out and find something to settle on. They want the other person to be happy. If they can’t, then either one of them has feelings that are extreme/beyond reason or they aren’t good at communicating or navigating conflict - both of which are legit, but different, compatibility problems.

I will also say that I don’t mind going on girls nights out and I will complain about why they go have girls nights at bars where they can’t hear each other speak and the alcohol is way more expensive than if they bought it at the store themselves. I will say it’s immature and preventing me from enjoying good food on my nights out. I do this not just with women I date but women I’m friends with.

Friend group selfishness is a real thing. Often friend groups have a collective interest to go to the same place when often individual friends or spouses are tolerating this.

People need community and connection and many people find that through the rave subculture. In fact, the emergence of the 80s rave scene stomped out most football violence in the UK. People found a space to connect, so there was no longer such a nees for tribal warfare on the streets. It was quite remarkable.

Clubbing isn't about dressing slutty and shagging randos. For a lot of us, it's about connecting with people, having a shared experience and feeling true euphoria for many hours.

I actually feel that a lot of people on here would benefit from it.

Setting boundaries is creating guidelines about what YOU are are okay vs not okay with doing- not trying to control/ change someone else’s behavior. Setting a boundary would be to not date women who go to the club in the first place, not getting into a relationship with hopes that you’ll successfully pressure her into compliance. Also there are lots of reasons to wear revealing outfits that aren't related to cheating such as it literally being summer. What you describe are not boundaries, they are rules. Ultimately its up to the couple what the boundaries are. If the woman doesnt like being told what to do, then she can break up. Its not against the law to leave. Same for guys. If the girl doesnt listen to him, he can leave. If either party wants to stay in the relationship more than the other, then they should probably listen.

If the guy has more to lose by breaking up, he doesnt have a say in what the girl wears. If the girl has more to lose, then she better listen. Simple as that.

I have the opposite issue where I want my gf to wear prettier clothes, but I respect her preference in wanting to stay covered. Its not a big issue so we compromise.

However my gf wants to get tattoos and I give my honest reply that I dont find tattooed girls attractive. Im not controlling anyone, just stating my preference. And as a free independent thinking person, you can do with that information as you wish. If you go against someone's stated preference, then all you do is reduce the liklihood of getting married to that person.

If you don’t like how she dresses or how she spends her downtime, then feel free to leave the relationship to free yourself up for someone more compatible with you.

Well nowadays society has labeled anything the man tells a woman to do that can be perceived as controlling to he the behavior of a misogynist.

So good luck with getting people to not see it that way and then refer to you as such when its pretty ingrained at this point.

Best to just stay away from a woman that even needs to be told not to show it all off when she's in a relationship.

i don't know why guys get in relationships with women who dress a certain way, post selfies on social media 24/7, drink and go out to clubs, have a bunch of male orbiters/followers but then expect these women to change into their vision of how a girlfriend should look like and act once they're together.

i never had to tell any of the women i dated to change X Y or Z because i stayed far away from getting seriously involved with anyone who didn't fit my idea of 'relationship material' in the first place.

Almost anyone that disagrees is an obnoxious self-worshiping type. We use to have non socially retarded culture that understood certain behaviors were expected to change once in a relationship. Now it’s “cOnTrOlLiNg” to expect the basics. It’s normal to be more risqué and loose when single. It’s normal to tighten up and be expected to tighten up. Healthy functioning cultures have this distinction.

I have more sympathy for the clothes argument than I do going to a club. There are lots of reasons for going out, and not all clubs are alike. The clothes, though, I can understand the argument of advertising availability. If your partner said she was going out with the girls while wearing a modest dress; I don’t think you would feel as strongly about her going out.

It is insecure and it’s controlling. If you wanna date women that are more modest in how they dress and don’t like clubbing, then go out with women that are already like that. Don’t date women that do wear more revealing clothes and go out clubbing and then try change and control what they can and cannot do.

My girlfriend is weird because she won't go into the grocery store if she forgot to wear a bra, but she'll try to wear shorts where her asscheeks are peaking out. It's not an insecurity issue, it's a respect issue. Respect yourself and respect me. I don't walk around with my nutsack hanging out.
