All the men are having sex with the few women that actually put out. The rest of these women aren't having sex unless they're in a relationship, for the most part, and a lot of them hold out for the best man they can get for the relationship. I agree with what they said in that the averages should be the same between men and women.

What can be different is the median or distribution and I think that's what we are ultimately concerned with on this sub. Which gender has a more even distribution of sexual encounters and it probably is women. Men seem to have more variability /a winner take all dynamic in regards to casual sex.

The typical woman isn't necessarily sleeping with hundreds of dudes but when she makes an exception to have casual sex she is likely doing so for the same subset of men that essentially every other woman is making exceptions for. So the most promiscuous men are likely more promiscuous than the most promiscuous women but as a result the median woman probably has had more casual sex than the median man.

However, the ever declining marriage rates shows that this strategy isn't working.

The real answer is because they probably do. Of course there’s no way to know for sure. Self-report bias could be contributing — maybe women are more likely to underreport and men overreport.

Or I suppose some might argue the top men are skewing the numbers somehow. Like let’s say women have a somewhat normal distribution of sexual partners with a mean of 10, for example, and men have an extremely positively skewed distribution with a mean of 15, but most men falling between 0-5. Or even bimodal with two means centered around some high number and 0-5.

I just think men have more sexual partners. It fits my anecdotal evidence.

Another possibility would be sample bias, who were the men surveyed. Men who have sex tend to have more partners true, however if those men have 0 partners they are not sexually active at all, so would they be counted in the study?

Like if the survey participants were recruited from a health clinic, yeah those people are having sex, but how different would the demographic be if the recruitment took place at somewhere with a bunch of neets.

There is something else at play here. If you were to create a graph, on the X axis would be number of sex partners, and Y graph would be percentage of people, the female graph would look normal, there would be a hump, where around 7 people would be the top of the hump, and then it would go down on each side, so 6 and 8 would have slightly less percentage of people, and so on...

However, the male graph would look strange, it would have 2 humps. There would be a big hump around the low end, around 3 or 4, where the majority of guys in the world only have a few partners for their entire life... then the graph would go down.. and then spike again at 15+ where a very small minority of guys have sex with a very large number of girls...

This skews all of the statistics.

In my experience, in real life I mean, women tend to have X2 or x3 more sexual partners than men.

Not that they rack huge numbers or something, but yeah most dudes I've met in my life tend to fall between 2 and 4 long term relationships on their 30's and few to none ONS if any. Women have the same amount of long term relationships, but tend to have more casual sex and even some FWB in between relationships, most of the women I've met fall in the 5-10 range.

I'm a male, 33, I'm around 70 something bodies right now (I think, and not counting escorts which is something I don't really like) but guys with this kind of sexual life are pretty rare.

I've met, on a personal level, around 50-60 men from age 16 to 40 and up. Most men have 3-4 partners, with the exception of a handful guys I suspect are virgins or have very little experience with girls, and then other two guys, a male stripper and a french-italian inmigrant who's quite good looking and rich, they claim to be 200 and over 500 respectively (I believe them, I know them for over a decade by now and they are always with a new girl).

So you get the idea. The french-italian dude has slept with more women than me and my whole male social net combined.

If you make a small pool about N-count of men and women, and you ask my male group of friends and other 60 random women, you'll get that women have slept with 480 men (each one of of them slept with 8 guys lets say).

Then you go and ask my dude friends, and 58 of them slept with 3-4 women each (189-230 women total, give or take) and then come the other two guys with 200 and over 500 women, which leaves you with those 60 men counting almost 1000 girls combined...

That would mean that the average partner count for men would be roughly 17 partners, twice as many as the women...

Like, that's no the case AT ALL for most guys hahaha.

Yeah, there are some men out there that can absolutely skew even a quite large sample sized pool in favour of men.

There are slutty women, of course, but generally, the numbers of sexual partners tend to be more even among women.

The article says if they cap it at the 99th percentile, the gap is reduced by 1.5%. So who knows, maybe if they dropped the bottom 2 percentile and the top 2 percentile it would end up dead even. Or fix all the misreporting and drop the bottom 1% and top 1%, assuming just fixing the misreporting doesn't solve the problem on its own

Some people lie. Men tend to lie up about sexual partners while women tend to lie down. I don't think that it happens as much as it used to with anonymous surveys, as the stigma of women having casual sex has lessened, but it probably still happens.

Some people have different understandings of what a "sexual partner" is. A man may consider a woman who gave him a hand job or oral sex a "sexual partner", while women might not consider that man a "sexual partner".

Of course, if men are having sex with a certain sub-population of women that aren't represented well in the survey, such as sex workers or women from other countries while traveling, while women are having sex with sub-populations of men who are represented in the survey, then it will skew the results.
