I don’t think it’s men OR women holding either opposite sex to unrealistic beauty standards at the end of the day. It’s society and the media. It’s how beauty companies get paid. It’s how plastic surgeons and beauty “spas” are so popular. And on and on.

Our economy is bolstered by our own insecurities. And the people shilling the products? They all have a hand in keeping these standards not only around, but always unattainable.

And it settles into us without us even realizing. You grow up in fairly okay sized city anywhere in America you’ll see it constantly happening. And loads of people have bought into it, because it’s the norm and what we’re used to. Some even have an unconscious bias they won’t admit to or see. And it’s extremely difficult to turn it all around.

I did hear recently that when it comes to height, a lot of women in the U.S. are stuck on 6'. In most countries, where centimeters are used, there is no perceived cutoff that drastically changes a woman's mind on whether a man is short or tall. Women still prefer tall guys, but there's no steep drop off from 183 cm to 180 cm on verbal or written preferences.

I think the difference is that men are more concerned with women's looks than the other way around. The standards for an ideal mainstream-hot guy might be narrow, but it's not very strictly enforced.

I'd add, as an aside, that the reason there is a wider variety of conventionally attractive women these days is because women made it happen. Femininity evolved to be more inclusive, while masculinity is still highly conformist.

I’m not going to agree, and I’m not going to disagree necessarily but I would like to add some points in the negative.

Onlyfans subscribers are predominantly men. Whether the creator is a man or a woman. Women just don’t typically pay for stuff like that, some do, but its just… mostly men. So to say that is the “ideal” for women is kind of biased because what you’re looking at is still typically the male gaze, a gay man gaze, but a male gaze.

Now, this isn’t to say that the female gaze is not more uniform than the male gaze, it’s honestly just poorly researched, poorly defined, and men have no idea what women want. I don’t even know what the female gaze looks like but I think I have a better idea?

I am 6'

I am 185lbs.

I am not out of shape but no longer have the "you work out" look.

I've been told I look like this guy multiple times, and I do look like a somewhat uglier version. I'm like his slightly less attractive brother.

I still can get women 20 years younger for casual sex, and no problem 10 years. My average partner for it is probably 38, and I've had enthusiastic women in their 20's as well this year.

When I was in really good shape (natty good no gear) 5 or so years ago I didn't get better women.

I think there is a threshold where after a point it just doesn't help as much.
