Relationships/attraction are not like a math equation. Sometimes there's just an "it" factor in terms of personality that makes me really attracted to a guy. I have lived my whole life this way, trying and failing is the key to my life. I pursued many women, and of course it does not work the vast majority of the time. Oddly enough, it was the absolutely hottest, most amazing girl of all that eventually connected, and we have had an amazing life together. I can’t claim it was anything other than dumb luck.

I used to work at this call center. This girl liked me from the jump when I started there. We would chat during breaks and stuff. I could tell easily because she would make an effort to talk to me. I see couples like that too. Though interestingly enough I feel the amount of them has kinda dropped. What crazy to me is that I actually see it more in the gym these days...the one place where you would think women are more inclined to be more selective about the men they're into.

Why is it the case? Sometimes it's just the nature of randomness. Looks is just a small component of what makes a person overall attractive. I have a theory that people often value traits in their partners that they themselves lack.

For example a very attractive woman may not value having the most attractive partner since looks is not something they feel they lack and would be more drawn to a partner who is more financially stable or more outgoing and socially adept then them etc.

Same goes for a lot of wealthy people choosing partners who aren’t necessarily well off since money is no object.

Even if surface level it appears that the woman is more attractive and out of his league he may be giving her something in the relationship that is hugely valuable to her. It doesn’t even have to be something measurable or overt like money or status. For example he may be a very trustworthy, stable and dependable guy that gives her a sense of security and stability in her life.

Just be first: women's first few relationships are often not hypergamous because they haven't quite figured out their position in the SMP and they're just happy to be finally doing the whole relationship thing

I know LOTS of average looking dudes who have good looking girlfriends, but I don't think I would want to be them.

I mean, if you dig deep in those relationships, the guys are huge simps (don't like to use that term, too much trendy for me, but for a lack of a better one...) who have lots of needs that are unmet and kinda resent the girls for it.

You get the picture. Those looksmatched relationships look good on papper, but in the inside are full of shit.

I've seen absolute bombshells walking hands to hands with a short fat ugly dude, but I don't envy those guys at all, they may smash here and there to keep appearances but most of the time is the guy the one doing all the burden.

A lot of times women just wear make up in public making them look more attractive but when they get home and take it off they are on the same level of attractiveness. That and I mean attractiveness is subjective so I mean she could just like him and find him attractive. Attraction is about looks but if you hang out with someone and they make you feel good makes you laugh and you guys click your gonna start finding yourself attracted to them. Or, and my money is on this one, did they meet up many years ago in high school or college? Most of the non-looksmatch couples I know fall into this boat. They got tother a long time ago, they've been together for years. There's nothing great about him, but nothing icky either. She can do way better, but that's not enough to go through the inconvenience of a break up. They're like a 22 year old married couple.

And behind closed doors, there are other factors. He has a low sex drive. She doesn't get pressured into wild alpha sex that would make her skin crawl with someone that doesn't turn her on. She likes the power dynamics in the relationship, where she doesn't have to worry about him cheating or branch swinging. And, oh yeah, she might get her actual rocks off with a side piece every now and then.

Whenever I go out to places, I commonly see men that don't have a single obvious selling point with beautiful girlfriend or generally better looking girlfriend. And by watching their relationship dynamic, it makes me even more baffled, how and why are they together?

Other guys don't like him - or dislike him - or for the most part even notice he exists.He could have been at every party you went to and you might not even recognize him. One day you find out he's slept with half the girls on your floor and you're like "how??". From a guys point of view it's a mystery. He just doesn't have any personality at all.

I guess I’m maybe a 6.5/10 on looks? Not really sure to be honest, but I don’t feel like it would be any higher than that. Wife to my eyes is at least two points higher than me.

Wife says she liked my sense of humor, my height (6’ tall, though she usually dated taller), highly educated and have a decent career (upper middle class), sensitive/empathetic/do gooder, and I was ready to have a family. A lot of it was timing. She says I’m handsome but I think it’s the other characteristics that made me more attractive to her.

If u r from Europe could it be that what is considered attractive in other countries in your country they are normal hence they don’t see themselves as special but instead as average.

Other things could be she likes him for him and also for emotional/financial security.

I have seen attractive women look for men that are not as attractive because they feel that he will always put her interests/wants/happiness first before his. He will do everything to make sure she is happy because she is the best he will ever have. There is that phrase form women I hear which is make sure he loves you more than you do him.

They might just like them, as vague as that sounds. The guys I’ve dated that I’ve been the most into weren’t always the best looking or the wealthiest. They were just enjoyable to talk to and be around. Good looks can get your foot in the door, but so can timing and proximity. That’s another thing that gets ignored a lot. A lot of people end up dating because they’re in the same social circles, taking the same class, have things in common.
