The rise of the internet is really the main cause for several different reasons. People are becoming poorly socialized due to excessive internet usage. It can be hard and sometimes unpleasant for people to go out and expose themselves to the outside world of which they have little control. It's much easier and safer to just Netflix binge, obsess over social media, play video games, and watch porn. Basically while having fun irl is better, it's a gamble that you sometimes lose. Staying online pretty much guarantees you'll get some enjoyment for much less effort. Other reasons are social media creating unrealistic expectations for both genders and online dating being unhealthy for both genders in different ways. The massive amount of rejection most men face is depressing. The massive amount of attention women get often leads to unrealistic standards to the point they'll never be happy with the partner they'll end up with.

Everyone wants to have a relationship or be given the perfect relationship. Nobody wants to build one. It seems to be that if someone "doesn't feel like the one" within five minutes then they switch off. The next candidate will be mesh better.

Nobody wants to be told that. Nobody wants to be told "hey, actually you could have something decent. You just need to appreciate what you have and can get better"

But this isn't universally true. The people doing well and who have stable relationships tend to be those who prioritised them. People I know who met at uni are often still together 10 years later.

Post uni the relationship status of most people I know has barely moved. A few people have gotten together. Lots of fickleness though and "maybe I could do better elsewhere" thinking.

Because it’s hard the older you get and Covid made it 100 time worst. School and college is the only time in your life where you will be sourounded by your peers and in close proximity. As well as see them very often. Once you leave that environment things changes. It’s harder to keep contact with friends because they start to spread out and move. They get caught up with work. Everyone works different time so it’s harder to schedule. Life happens ect. You add Covid into that and it make an already delicate process to meet up even harder. You probably have a 2 year window to maintain or exhaust your dating prospect from college untill they just move on and get wrap up in there own life. I don’t think men and women are really built to constantly just socialize with the opposite sex. This is why all male and all female spaces existed. I believe this separation made people more vigilant to date and oriented each sex to be more likely to date. Nowadays courtship is not always first priority when we go to interact with someone of the opposite sex and thus it’s priority / significance has also culturally declined as a result.

I got out of a LTR about 6 or so months ago, and dated one person since then. I found myself to be happier single. I do miss having someone around and what not, but I’m doing pretty good otherwise. My work life has been better. Have interview soon for a pretty big promotion, and that mostly happened due to my work performance being better. I moved into my own place, and like just doing what I want with it. I don’t have to ever stress what someone else is doing. I don’t have to worry about who someone else is talking to, and most importantly if I’m good enough. I’m only 23 and eventually the clock will start ticking for me to have a family, but right now I’m contempt with where I’m at. My next step in my life is getting my health where it needs to be. With that I don’t want someone dictating how fast or slow improvement I’m making.

If I find someone along the way who wants to build into a relationship, and have the same thing going on then I’ll be open to a relationship. There’s no sense in rushing into something to fit in with the rest of society.

The answer is that there isn’t a huge incentive to be in a relationship, especially now that many people want to be child free. People want to be happy and in the modern era, for both men and women, dating and finding the right partner is too hard and sometimes stressful. Women don’t want to settle or waste time picking through a pool of awful men. Sex is available if they want it usually but many women don’t even consider this a top priority. Many focus on careers and friends and pets and family. They also typically don’t depend on men financially and feel less pressure by society to marry any dude that comes along and then be unhappy the rest of their life. Men are either happy sleeping around with no strings attached or are unable to find a woman so resentment grows. Social media and OLD of course can play a part in this as many have already said.

However being on Reddit and in this sub I think you’ll find people are extremely pessimistic. There are MANY people out there whose type of happy life includes a relationship and more “traditional” things. Most of the people I know are happy couples who met through friends and live together and/or are married. A few even met through OLD. Most shopped around a bit (both men and women) before finding the right partner for the life they want in the future. Some might call this “settling down” but really it think it’s finding out what really matters to you and realizing what they are looking for in a long term partner.

Despite what you read on Reddit, many people still want this type of life. I just think people have higher standards for relationships now - both men and women - so it can be hard to find the right partner. For example attraction was big for me in choosing a partner, but equally important was the fact that he had a job, was monogamous, nonviolent, funny, liberal, liked some physical activity, didn’t use drugs, helped around the house, and wanted kids one day. Seems like a lot but I hold myself to the same standards - and I’d rather be single than find someone who didn’t want these things.

Then when the wall hits, those women are looking for somebody to settle, thinking they should be able to secure one of those top 20% guys, who are still banging young women and don't want to stop.

Lots of good points here. Just to add what's off the top of my head, I'd say less societal pressure to be married and stay married. The "big" relationship of people's lives (the one in which they have kids) lasts less time than it used to. And no, I don't think that's inherently a bad thing; I'd rather go into a marriage on the premise that we can both leave when it just isn't working anymore than be forced to stick it out for the sake of tradition and avoiding external shaming. Not to say you shouldnt fight for the love that's there, but there were a lot of people staying far past the point of abusive back in the day.

As for someone younger who isn't and hasn't been married yet, if there's less societal pressure to get married or into a longterm relationship, why would you do it unless it absolutely feels right? If something doesn't feel better than being single and nothing external is pressuring you to do it anyways, there really isn't any incentive to.

Women’s standards are too high until they hit 30 and decide they need to settle down in a monogamous relationship with a guy. Social media and dating apps have turned an entire generation of women into narcissists.

Men have also fallen down a bit. There are some men who have no ambition and only seek instant gratification.

I also personally know some men who have a dismal outlook on dating because they struggle to find single women to date. There’s nothing really wrong or off about them either. They have middle-class jobs, they’re not overweight, they own their own homes, they have hobbies and interests that aren’t gaming and porn. They go out with friends. They’re just not players or fuckboys.

It boggles my mind to know that they’re single and that I’ve also met women who complained their exes treated them like Mommy McBangmaid and also cheated on them and stole from them. Women will pursue abusive narcissists who give them emotional rollercoaster highs and lows over a stable, responsible guy 7 days of the week.

We are so rich nowadays, even someone on the average salary, that we don't need to depend on a partner to survive.

And it is social.

People are no longer expected to have children so young, or at all, so people can have relationships that more naturally fit in with their natures and desires. Overall I think not just dating but people in general are becoming more isolated and just single. I think it’s just the lack of pressures. If you compare today to the past when we were more primitive it made sense. You essentially had no choice but to partner with others. Now you don’t have to.

Even “third world” nations are facing the same issue. The birth rates, marriage rates, relationship rates, etc. have been dropping. Why? Because options. Everyone now has more options. Jobs to relationships to products. Infinite more options than what was there in comparison to the past. Now many believe they deserve the perfect and most highest grade stuff. Which just isn’t reality.

Another harsh reality is that modern day doesn’t mesh with human biology. Becoming older and losing your youth and fertility is a actual thing to be concerned about. In the past that it really wasn’t cared as much as people kinda just died before we even reached the age. Seriously your body isn’t designed to live that old. In primitive societies we had basically children become adults. 14 year olds pair off and become their own family owner of a farm or become Shepard’s.

We’re simply struggling to handle modernity with our primitive nature. Till we find a balance then nobody is gonna be happy.

It's a mix of things, but I think the main one is social media. The constat comparing yourself to others, the unrealistic expectations (both look-wise and money) that you take from "fake" posts really drive your expectations to insane levels. Also the general culture shift, that everyone DESERVES anything they want even though they don't fight for it and some kind of victim mentality also disrupts the "normal" outlook on life. Finally, people live in echo chambers, where their ideas can't be challenged (victim mentality) and if by some chance you end up on some women/men-hating subreddits, the more you read the posts there the more you start hating them just continuing this never-ending cycle.

More and more people are learning that happiness comes from within, that you can create your own happiness and not rely on someone else. People are working on themselves more, for no other reason than to be better people. People are focusing on themselves more, and while it is self centred and selfish the benefits are a society that asks “how can I change myself to be better?” rather than “how can I change my partner to be better?”

I don't know, I think this is somewhat exaggerated, as plenty of people are still getting into relationships and having sex. I'm not saying that dating hasn't become harder at all, I'm just saying that there's still a lot of people who manage to find a boyfriend/girlfriend or hookup at a relatively normal age, and this even applies to average looking people.

Virginity and no relationship experience hasn't become this nationwide epidemic as much as some red/black pillers like to believe. The vast majority of people still have their first relationship and lose their virginity under the age of 22; and this is especially true for guys and girls at the top of the dating marketplace. Chads will continue to be chads, and pretty girls will still benefit from their good looks, even 50, 100 years into the future since being attractive will never go out of style. In fact, you could argue that dating has become easier for good looking/high status individuals. Because of the rise of Tinder and other social media apps, it makes it easier for good looking people to connect with each other. If you're lucky enough to be in the top 10% of men and top 50% of women (looks wise), then the rise of online dating actually benefits you.

Speaking from a RedPill perspective I can honestly there is no point to dating and there never was. As you go down the rabbit hole of the RedPill you realize that love, romance, companionship etc was never real to begin with. Men are not motivated to try too hard. I know guys who are perfectly happy single, with porn, video games and work.

Even if they try a bit they can’t offer enough value to women who don’t need them. The traditional model was interdependence. My dad didn’t enter the kitchen he needed my mom to eat. My mom had 0 marketable skills, she needed my dad to make money. They needed each other so they make the marriage work.

Now both genders live alone by late 20s they learn basic skills like cooking, cleaning, laundry, they also earn money. So they are seriously considering singledom as an option. Partnering is not inevitable.

Now for sex, love, people date and the guys who get girls are not sure if he should commit to one girl for life. The institution of marriage seems to have become outdated. Neither wants kids, why involve the govt into their personal affairs and make it harder to separate? Either person should be able to walk away is what more people believe.

We used to have collectivistic culture, people put their community, family, nation before themselves. All humans sacrificed their pleasure for the sake of meaning.

With science and logic we broke down these myths of god, nation and we became atomic individuals. Without meaning, sacrifice was not worth it. So we are selfishly seeking pleasure.

If you seek pleasure in relationships you’ll quickly realise that men and women have areas where their interests conflict. There is an aspect of the game being zero sum. Someone has to risk more, give up more. Both can’t have it all. People got taken advantage of, hurt, they re enter the market and hurt others, setting up the cycle you see.

Short answer: The economy, internet and social media.

Long answer: We are at a point in history where, at least in the US, class and social division is at an all time high. This has started predominantly with 2008 and the Occupy Wallstreet movement, which was destroyed from within by people we used to call SJWs but in their original form. This excessively benefitted the rich and the division of people has been further pushed over the years.

After the recession, prices, especially housing, rebounded to very high property prices while wages stayed stagnated. This meant more economic stress on an already taxed system. Then the gig economy came into play and having multiple jobs became normalized. College prices in the US are ridiculously inflated and unjustifiable and the minimum wage is not even a wage anymore, it's just a joke. In light of this and the ensuing economic issues, a new wave of tired, depressive people came to be, seeking to be entertained by social media, while being sold the dream of "one day making it", which is the elite controlling the remnants of the middle class to not go against them.

Now the economy, social media and the internet has atomized people even further. Men have nothing to gain and go frustrated or MGTOW or worse. Women are told they are boss grills, so they don't need no men and if they want to, they can get access to fit, rich men (aka parts of the near elite class) for flings if they want to. Soon there will only be an elite class with plebs below it and women aren't interested in less than elite men in that scenario, at least with social media telling them they exist and put them in reach.

Meanwhile China will become the predominant global power, as it used to be and the west will eventually become an object worth conquering, with Russia as it's extended arm. The west is growing more fractured and the power will only get more concentrated in the hands of a few. Then China will buy us out or straight up conquer us.

The only thing we can and should do is minimize consumption and protest by refusal to participate in a rigged game. I am not saying have no job but live with minimal consumption to hurt them the most.

Too many choices. Women want the best guy they can get, so they don’t want to see that they’re getting pumped and dumped by high value men in hopes they might stick around.

High value men have way more options than they used to and don’t feel like they need to commit.

Feminism destroyed womens' ability to perceive their own worth/value by removing all barriers to their hypergamous natures, and two big culprits are abortion-on-demand/birth control and no-fault divorce.

Remove consequences from behavior, and you get more of that behavior. Remove the consequences to riding the carousel and you get more of it until you're thrown off it at 30. And then it's too late; hitting the wall shatters lives and futures daily.

Women get their egos inflated to disgusting degree and are so full of themselves while they get any artificial help to put them in front of men. If you reverse the genders in education and entry level jobs there would be a societal uproar and tantrum about unfairness which would cause the earth to stop orbiting the sun. At the same time there is still the tale that they are opressed and privileged planting the thought into them as they are still deserving more and more hating men for this.

Men on the other hand get this trashy social conditioning from feminism, getting their nature neglected in school, can't learn according to their own preferences and are forced to behave like defective girls. This starts early on and is building up slowly while growing up combined with denied sexuality.

This opposites are bound to breed contempt especially with the individuals to deep into these segments.

Just too high availability of options given the rise of OLD, before you were sort of restricted to your city/town in terms of who you could date, now it's your whole state/province/country/world, and people find it hard to resist their urge to branch-swing when they see what's out there, it's a sacrifice to be sure but a lot of people can't do it
