He got so triggered that his little girl was giving suggestions because it just highlighted to him that he was faking/exaggerating. Deep down he knew he didn’t need it (he literally told her he didn’t) so it made him feel guilty he was getting undeserved kindness. So he did what any man would and took it out on her.

Yelling at a sweet baby like that is just abhorrent. How will she be able to freely give affection now if she’s getting abuse in retaliation?

So the therapists are gaslighting her too. Ugh this is why I don’t even want to try therapy, so many end up gaslighting you that it makes things worse. When I was with my nex but didn’t know about narcissistic abuse, my therapist basically convinced me I was needy and that I needed to have my own life like he does. Meanwhile I was never like this before him, I only became that way because of the love bombing and discard phases that made me chase after him and start losing myself.

I finally left an abusive relationship after waking up to how my ex was treating me in front of his daughters. I stayed years too long because I put up with it and rationalized it, but it took him shamelessly doing it in front of them that made me realize that I didn't want them to grow up thinking this was normal. He wasn't talking to them that way, just me. Leaving abusive relationships is hard. I hope this mom leaves soon because this is disgusting and her daughter deserves to be somewhere safe and loved.

Bad news. I grew up with a father figure in the house like this. I never knew what side of the bed he’d wake up on, whether he’d be in his funny guy mood or in his slam doors, punch walls mood. Anything would set him off.

I wound up developing PTSD and having a very freeze/fawn response that doesn’t bode well around predatory personalities. These parents are going to make their kid a magnet for abusive types in her future.

That poor kid’s gonna need therapy if he doesn’t stop.

As someone who grew up with a father like this, the best the mother could ever do for that little girl is to cut her father off entirely. If he doesn't have enough empathy to understand how a six year old feels, then he's severely lacking the mental capacity to care for a child. My mom had neck and back surgery after a severe car accident when I was young and she would have never treated me like that, despite being in probably an equal or higher level of pain as this so-called "man".
