So they were already the demo least represented in education, most represented in the homeless, most likley to commit suicide, and a host of other problems, but the only way any of their problems can even be talked about is when a mass murder happens. Which is, ironically, a big contributer to why it happens to begin with.

There's a cultural idea that this demographic doesn't need any support and any negatives they get as a group are somehow earned in a perverse sins of the father social contract they gain zero benefit from, or framed as their fault for not seeking help they very likley never would have gotten had they gone looking.

People complain that american men are trained to lash out with violence and bullying to get their way, but the actual reality is that outside of incidents like this the issues affecting them aren't even considered up for discussion. Which just encourages them to do shit like this.

I tried to give a more coherent answer but couldn’t collect my thoughts enough to write it all out.

In short, mental illness + unrestricted internet access + less role models for young men and less roles for young men to fill in society in relation to women and society as a whole = displaced young men with no sense of purpose, no net positives to their life, and a lack of ability to introspect and find solutions to their problems.

This will only get worse as long as our society provides ways for so many people to become socially isolated. Pandemic isolation aside, our social dynamics have rapidly shifted over the past 20 years or so and depression and other mental illnesses are on the rise. For violence in young men, no matter what “reasons” you want to dissect, ultimately it comes down to mental illness and how men’s social dynamics lead them to not communicate these issues like women do, or, even worse, the families of young men do not care about their mental health -these sons are often told to “be a man” etc. and grow more resentful from there.

There is no solution. It’s a symptom of economic and cultural breakdown in the west and only gets solved if that gets solved.

Around 75% of these mass shooters grew up in a fatherless home. I dont know who to blame for that but, if you fix the situation of boys growing up without their fathers in their lives, chances are you can almost fix this problem.

Except it isn't and it's not even close. The amount of people they kill compared to just about anything else on a national level is a rounding error. It's principally fetishism by the media that makes it appear to be our "greatest public-health crisis", yet it doesn't even begin to touch the number of people killed through suicides, drug overdoses (often another form of suicide), or even "regular" street violence. Cops kill several times over the number of mass shooters victims every year. Lots of relatively rare genetic diseases kill more than mass shooters etc.

Mostly it's a peculiar and shocking outgrowth out of the social dystopia that's tied in with the suicide rates.

It's really sad that a lot of people acknowledge this is an issue but don't want to do anything to solve it. The current political climate pretty much ensures most male specific issues will get much worse before any effort is put into helping them. The left is filled with too many man haters for these issues to get any foothold of support. The right only pays lip service on these issues to piss off the left, they have no intention of doing anything to help men.

Men's only real hope is that solving the economic issues faced by the lower and middle class will lead to a natural cultural change that ends up accidently solving male issues.

Firstly I would like to appreciate the fact you showed the racial diversity in this discontent. The media likes to paint the issue as exclusively white and male when if we include gang shootings and other reported shootings kids have been killing kids from all races for the longest time.

Society's failure to save disenfranchised men is a big issue. Specifically men who lack education, lack income and lack socialization. Men are often considered the most privileged group when the reality is that "rich men" are the most privileged. So poor men are often told they need to bow down there privilege to help others while often having none themselves. For example if you watch the news as a poor homeless man, you are told you are privileged above all women and you need to check yourself. To solve this issue proper help needs to be provide to this group of men to help them either better cope with their conditions (homeless shelters, food and aid), or to escape them in general.
They need proper mental health services and not the ones that currently exist. Many of the existing mental health resources seek to discredit people's legitimate experiences especially when interactions are male vrs female. There exists a large amount of men who have has the real emotional trauma they have experienced from women be minimized or called misogyny. Relationships can be emotionally destructive to men as well as women but women seems to be given much more support in those issues societally.
We can't discount that male geared content is part if the problem. The Red and Black Pill destroy men emotionally and physically. RP makes men believe every failure is due to a lack of drive or motivation when the reality is some obstacles are damn near insurmountable. Male geared content also easily grows male hatred for society at a level that most don't want to admit.

Not just these 5 specifically, but how many were raised by single mother's? There's statistics that back up drug abuse, violence, suicide, and a prison pipeline with that as a common factor.

Ultimately, people just also don't five a fuck. Pandemic? People went out of their way to hoard and then cried about how we should protect the elderly, even though they were some of the biggest hoarders. The infant formula issue? People started hoarding instead of taking what was needed. Willingly okay with babies starving and these same people turn around and are shocked by these shootings. School shootings? People move on a month later. Nothing was done after sandy hook. People just went online, pontificated on about their feelings in posts and did jack fucking shit.

Miss me with the mental health part too. It always comes back to that and gives these weirdos and every nut in society a pass. Even the non violent people. "It's not my fault, I'm bi polar" or "manic depression" Mental, alcoholics and drug addicts are the only people who get this weird pass and it gets blamed on that instead of them just being a bad choice making asshole who fucks up other people's lives. This is the only disease/illness/etc where you can be a fuck face and it gets blamed on anything but personal responsibility. For all these great mental health professionals, you're doing a real shit job if these cats have been getting treatment and you're not going "Hey this fuck is dangerous" and trying to coddle them with some unicorn dreams. Whatever happened to keeping these people away from normal ass society?
I know "They're people" but they're dangerous and unhinged. If we're banning guns to protect the public then keeps these fuckers in a place they can't endanger the public too. There’s no justification for the actions here, but everyone acting surprised on TV that this keeps happening when men are given no societal, mental, educational support of any kind are imo ridiculous.

There are program after program aimed at womens educational and professional success, women are celebrated with body positivity no matter what they look like - none of these structures exist for men and they are left to fend for themselves.

There’s no secret code here as to the underlying reasons as to why this keeps happening and happens with such frequency here versus anywhere else on earth.

The issue is: people tell girls that they are inherently unique individuals with their own hopes, dream and aspirations and are are more than just the sum of their body parts and biological impulses. Have you seen all the campaigns aimed at getting girls into STEM jobs and business?

Boys, unless their parents do a good job of instilling values, are mostly left to fend for themselves until predatory ideologies catch them and convince them that their only purpose in life is to get laid and that they are failures if they can't do it.

Teach boys that there are worthy dreams, goals and aspirations to be had outside of getting laid and they'll be happier overall.

The are lonely, undersexed, lack opportunities to meaningfully participate in society, building community, and form lasting relationships.

I would like to see mandatory service for all 18-20 year olds, male and female. Small mixed sex, mixed geographic income cohorts who are tasked with working on projects to support struggling communities, or public works, conservation, what have you. We need to come together as a nation with something big, bold and optimistic. If we do nothing, it's just going to be more of the same.

The answer, as someone who reads about this a lot, is more support for parents so they can be better parents, and more gentleness in society in general. More believing people who have been traumatized and less “your parents did the best they could so don’t make them feel guilty by telling the truth about your childhood”. Childhood sexual assault is also a major issue that is common and ignored. Basically we need to be a community that cares about each other instead of taking the side of abusers.

Simple both genders are likely to have a few different genetic problems:

Men are likely to have mental illnesses along with x linked disorders while women are more likely to have autoimmune diseases especially after giving birth because of the complex and tasking process it is to have a child.

With men more likely to have mental illnesses and men being mocked and society expecting them to be tough makes it so more men are mentally unstable. Men are humans with complex emotions. Also mental health treatment is expensive and in the Texas shooter’s cause getting treatment would have left him in serious debt.

Both women and men face different types of discrimination and problems. Society needs to hand together to help those with mental illnesses and mental health no matter the gender. A man’s emotions are just as valid. When a man cries it shouldn’t be weaponized against him. In Lanza’s case I don’t think parents should be able to deny their children help. She denied him mental health support and treatment for his mental illnesses and I firmly believe that if he got help he wouldn’t committed the shooting. Mental health needs to be taken more seriously. If you suspect something then say it and don’t punish those suffering because it will make them less likely to reach out for help but these shooters did tend to cry out for help.

Mental illnesses needs more awareness and needs to be taken more seriously. I’m a women with high functioning autism and ADHD. I’m barely even considered autistic but just a person with ADHD which is on the septum. This does hurt your social skills and I have suffered through my k-8th grade school years because of it but it got so much better in high school. Men are much more likely to have autism and so we have more boys and young men who suffer from social interactions and can’t interact well with others leading to them pushing everyone away and becoming loners, pretty much outcasting themselves. America needs to take mental health more seriously and these young men deserve to have their problems taken seriously.

Most mass shooters are over 30 and are either shooting up their families or their workplaces, and it has pretty much always been so. Racial/religious violence is also ho hum, not big news. Its quite simple. Younger males (millennial and gen z) are way too overly blamed for "patriarchy" and "evil capitalism". They are bitter. And rightfully so. Their actions are not justified, but honestly the shittiest demographic throughout human history has always been younger males. They have to wait to get dates (women tend to pursue/be pursued by older men). Hell with the increasing % of women who identify as bisexual and lesbian (while male %s are staying the same for decades), there aren't even enough women for pairings to even happen. Younger males pay taxes in a system that they get the least amount in return (other than dying in Iraq or Afghanistan!), And now things like higher education are trying to tend to womens' needs over mens'. Race matters as well, but the key component is younger + male.

Some men have given up way too much in this quest for equality. Some have not given enough up. Its easy for some rich celebrity to demand everyone to change. Tell that to somebody who already has very little. Anyone who lectures these K-12 and even 20 something younger males about how privileged they are when they see the women in their lives with much more fulfilling social lives (and honestly nowadays economic and educational as well) will become bitter.

I'm not sure rational, statistical analysis is the only lens through which to view these things. Still, it must be one of them. Child shootings stir emotions, but ultimately, they do not kill very many people--not even very many children.

Men are nature's experiment. They are more variable than women, and the worst of society have always been mostly men. It could be that this group is not really that more alienated or disaffected than ever--weapons are just more lethal and accessible. Or their ability to communicate with others of their ilk via the Internet is weaponizing them, when in the past they would just learn to accept their lot in life and suffer in silence and isolation.

None of this is good. It's just unclear how much of a brand new phenomenon, much less a pandemic of potential violence that will destroy society.

Abolishing mental institutions and prison reform has let violent and unhinged people run amok.

We used to lock these people away. Now we let them do whatever they want, which is always act out in mass violent and depraved behaviors.

Lots of people are suffering, including other men, and they aren't going out and physically harming or maiming other people. Because they aren't mentally unstable and psychotic.

There are angry young men everywhere. It's disingenuous to claim that it's only an American problem. Shootings have happened in other countries, too. The difference in American culture is that there is easy availability of the weapons that young men can use to take out their anger, as well as perhaps a cultural belief that guns are the ultimate "problem solver". Gun rights advocates know that this is the flip-side of wide availability of guns, but do not want to do anything about it because they actually feel that restricting guns is a greater evil and would cause more problems than children occasionally being murdered.

People in the US don't care about their "fellow american", in part because there is a myriad of different cultures, ethnicities, political alignments, religions and in part because there is so many things to be angry about in the US. This percolates into virtually every aspect of society.

I don't necessarily know what can fix it but I know its getting very tiring to hear people act like there is only one means to solve this issue. It's not all-or-nothing. You can take steps to address mental health while also doing other things I want to get into for the sake of remaining on topic.

Some sort of neural imaging which predicts the likelihood of homicidal / suicidal behavior. That’s how it has to be done. But why are men more likely to do this, specifically young men? Because they have a very significant and recent exposure to large amounts of androgens, added to the fact that they are low value men who are being faced with massive social pressures and frequent juxtapositions to high value men, peers or otherwise.

Testosterone provides the extra “umph” to embolden someone to arrange for weapons, an attack plan, to handle weapons, pull a trigger 20-50 times in bursts over the course of a few minutes (harder than you think, due to lactic acid buildup from the sympathetic overdrive of an adrenaline rush).

When men are constantly emasculated since birth and not allowed to behave naturally in a way that displeases women or some other authority and they haven’t been raised to have and dignity or self respect, and been constantly forced to submit against their will to some thing or other, that can bother people. It is unnatural for the male of a species to be so powerless and on top of that, no one cares about you as a male. No one really cares about in a more than a general fake kind of way.

The biggest cause - social media, combined with modern feminism. Angry young males did not exist in such large numbers before Instagram, TikTok and other social media. I wonder why that is.

Young American men and women largely have the same issues. It's just that men tend to act out their trauma through the infliction of pain on others where women internalise and act out trauma on themselves. Yes, angry men definitely exist in America but I actually think these massacres say more about easy access to guns and even white supremacy than it does about disaffected young men. America has always had a toxic culture of entitlement and misogyny, I think things have actually gotten slightly better in this regard. Back and 70s and 80s America was rife with serial killers who, again, were largely young men from distinctly traumatic backgrounds who had access to more victims due to increasing transience afforded to them by the newly built interstate highway system and a lack of communication between law enforcement in different states. Legislative changes made the difference fundamentally, not some ambiguous attempt to change mens behaviour.

It's easy access to guns. Nothing more, nothing less.

It’s funny that this gets brought up but any time you bring up bl@ckpill demographics you get your comment removed so here I go.

1. In the age cohorts below 40 (ya know the ages people have families) the USA has an extra # of single young men. If every person under 40 paired up in the USA, there would still be leftover single young men.

2 Suburban sprawl. Suburban sprawl refers to the rapid growth of American suburbs with no regard for future urban planning. This was fine when America was constantly growing but now it’s actually hurting America more now than helping. (Car dependence with high energy prices and hurts community formation)

3 An atomized America. Combine the logistics of #2 (needing a car to go anywhere + lack of communal spaces) Combined with rise in rampant anti-depressant use among many ages. America is by far the most suburbanized developed country in the world. No other country comes close. Plus America has become very individualist at the cost of being a more anti-social culture.

Single mother households are controversial to say the least on PPD, so no comment on that even though almost all these kids come from single moms. It definitely doesn’t help anything.

Basically America has logistically set up its structures and communities to be anti-social if America’s population stops growing. (pop quiz it has) Now it’s paying for the lack of forward planning on the back end.

Disenfranchised people all suffer. Men and boys are not unique here.

Hurt males tend want to make others suffer too, and appear more compelled to act out on it brazenly.

That’s due to Y chromosome, testosterone, “masculinity,” what have you.

TLDR: I suppose we need to ameliorate “disenfranchisement” and then also not let “unruly Y chromosomes go unchecked.”

Considering that "white", "het", and "cis" are suddenly dropped from the narrative, we might eventually just land on "why are people angry". A decade or two from now.

Hot take, but there's an often overlooked factor. Women are just terrible shooters.

Last time I checked, women constituted 1/2 of people born in families of firearm owners, 1/3 of gun owners or gun owner family members, 1/4 of shooting range attendants, 1/8 of airsoft enthusiasts, and 1/12 of people successfully defending themselves with a firearm. This is in a country where apparently 1 in 3/4/5/whatever female college students are raped.

I never really understood why this is happening in the US.

And overall, I'm surprised by the amount of animosity between men and women (at least based on what people from the US and partly the UK put on the Internet).

Normally, I would say that shooting is simply a tax on the fact that people in the United States are armed, but there is also a huge percentage of prisoners, so overall this country has a social problem. I hope that in time this will not be a civil war or major unrest.

The educational system in general is not kind to boys (the way the school days are structured, the overcrowding that means every distraction is magnified, teacher training). Boys consistently struggle with sitting still and other tasks in the early years, and their unrulier nature is expected to be perfectly tamed at 5.

And for any boy who does not comport himself like a girl the schools treat like a huge problem. The school system is broken in many ways. You have to fight them all the time and many parents don’t have the time and energy.

That said, I’m tired of our sympathy seeming to be increasingly directed at the shooters. If you are a parent you’ll understand the visceral fear this scenario awakens. Most of you aren’t parents but some of you are. You know.

Too much bullshit

The way things work is men compete for women. The other way around sort of work but competition on the other way around is much less problematic.

For example, movies want to get as many watchers as possible. Watchers, on the other hand, don't mind sharing movies. It's not like I can't watch Thor if you watched.

Now in the west you have monogamy. But this is not normal. Normally competition among men are fierce.

So some women are angry they can't get richer men. Those women are never happy with their husband.

Some women are angry that other women get paid for sex. The one that get paid for sex are prettier.

Some men are angry they don't get more women. The muslims, for example, assert their right for polygamy a lot.

Some men are angry they don't get any women. This men demand monogamy.

Some men are angry that transactional sex and transactional reproduction is practically illegal. As a libertarian, I am in this category. I am not really mad. I just find my way around it.

We are all angry at each other.

Also we bullshit each other so we can screw one another and don't get people angry. And when people find out, they get angrier.

So it's normal to be angry. In ancient time, we just kill each other. It's normal. Now, we got occasional school shooting in gun free zones. So we're better off.
