I am a gay man. And the guy I was with and I’m still currently living with is genuinely one of the best people I’ve ever dated. I really really wanted to marry him. Unfortunately after a year of picking up his shit and him being grumpy at me and not pulling any of the household weight I just can’t do it anymore. People greatly underestimate how much work goes into that. It’s a full-time job when the other person isn’t helping.

For men having a wife is an overall plus because women do their household work and admin, shopping, having sex with them etc. So if the woman is unhappy or disconnected from them they can just check out and its still overall a pretty good deal

For women they may get room and board as a plus but these days women as financially independent and pay their fair share so they just end up picking up the slack on household chores, grow resentful and its overall a negative. Since they are getting the shit deal they divorce. Plain and simple

Male here, not apologizing for d-heads but I also realized young that my mom did all the work, she past away and at that point I realized at the end of the day, it is just a shit ton of work that has to be done and for all those years my mom did it!

My father was an ass clown stuck in the past and I listened to his bullshit…until she past away suddenly! Today, I do more house work then my wife…primarily because I am better at it! I am also teaching my boys that house work is just work and they better get off their asses and help!

Ironically, men truly love making women happy but all of the stupid ass “fatherly” advice and peer pressure total fuck us to make bad choices! Hopefully that changes one father/son relationship at a time.

So, of 100 divorced people, about 20 divorce because the husband cheated, 5 because the guy was violent, 6 because the man had a drug/alcohol problem, 2 because the man was emotionally/verbally abusive. These account for 33% of divorces.

Men initiate divorce in 20% of cases, with only 2% because the woman had a drug/alcohol problem. The rest are for affective reasons “just grew apart/lack of communication. Tsk, tsk, isn’t this what the manosphere calls frivorce?

The remaining 50% of divorces are mutually initiated.

I believe this is at least a significant part of the reason. Men can be completely checked out of a marriage or even abandon the family, and will still leave the paperwork for the wife to take care of. Which incidentally, I believed is another major reason many women may want out of their marriages, while men find the arrangement useful enough to want to keep it even if the relationship isn’t good anymore.

Of course, this is all just speculation, and there will be different reasons why different couples divorce. But one thing is for certain, and that is that you cannot tell who is at fault based on who files for divorce. And that’s the huge flaw with all this “women are the ones who ruin their marriages because they’re the ones who file for divorce” nonsense I see around here.

I feel like women initiate divorce because they feel extremely trapped. If we take care of most of the admin household tasks that means we are most likely/usually responsible for literally every other household task AND in these modern “woke” times, women are expected to go out and find jobs as well. So, to sum it up, women are thrown into admin household tasks, regular household work (cleaning, cooking, taking care of stupid ass kids), and even finding part-time or full-time jobs.

So think about that, this means that we have to work literally 24/7. If that’s not a trap, idk what is.

Men are better off in marriage. i think it's like, how men leave their sick partners at a higher rate when diagnosed with cancer. They lose the benefits of her and her support network and now have to take care of her. while she stays and has her support network to fall back on. A woman can leave and still has her family and friends to take care of her if she's unhappy. He does not. I think men live longer in both happy and unhappy marriages while women only in happy marriages. Have to double check that though. it's not cash and prizes, men just benefit more from marriage. So when it goes south they still generally have reason to stay, while women don't.

Almost every woman I know who filed for divorce with some degree of speed did so because she didn't for a moment trust her ex to hold by what he was agreeing to once he became aware she had started dating again and then he was going through the process of dealing with that emotionally. That includes both the ones who had started dating again and the ones who hadn't. It includes the ones whose exes had started dating again and the ones who hadn't.

You can't make solid, sustainable, adult decisions about where to live, how to invest and a bunch of other smaller stuff until you've got some certainty. A divorce settlement and custody agreement gives that certainty. You can then go on to buy that house or sign that lease knowing that any emotional disagreement between you isn't easily going to touch the structural reasons why you make those decisions. You're not likely to be left with a mortgage on a property suitable for a kid during the school week (nice school district, large bedroom for kiddo, backyard for kid to play in while you make dinner) to later discover now you're the weekend parent or vice versa. You're not going to buy as if you had $150, 000 then when your ex sees a Facebook photo of a more handsome man with his arm around you at a school reunion and your ex starts arguing and you fight it for a year and end up with fifty grand more or fifty grand less all the while both of you freaking out about the uncertainty that never needed to exist in the first place if only you had bound each other to legal settlement of the issues earlier.

Women file more swiftly because men are, in the wake of a relationship, far more weak fickle and overly emotional than they will ever admit even to themselves and thus their word can not be relied on...so it is in everyone's interest to get court orders immediately so that a mantrum can't result in extension of that time of liminality, uncertainty and chaos.

Last time I checked, Rosenfeld's 2015 study tackled this possible data corruption by not looking into whose signature was on papers, but how people responded to survey. When asked "Among you and your spouse/partner, who wanted divorce/breakup more?", female respondents said "I wanted it more", while male respondents said "Spouse/partner wanted it more". "Paper trail divorce" by women does indeed happen more often than "wanted divorce", but it does not change the general picture that much (if memory serves right, women claim to have wanted divorce 70% of the time but filed for it 80%, approximately) This is how the study managed to track not only divorces but also breakups that don't leave paper trail. I once even dug up the exact survey/question sheet that was sent/telephoned to respondents, but I'm too lazy right now to go through my old comments.

Instead I bring you this working paper from Rosenfeld with point of interest being Figure 1 on page 35, which shows that the headline of your link "Women More Likely Than Men to Initiate Divorces, But Not Non-Marital Breakups" is misleading. By "raw" numbers, women were still more likely to initiate ("want" in survey terms) divorces, breakups in cohabiting couples, and breakups in non-cohabiting couples. It's just that for the last two, the confidence interval crossed the 50% threshold. The correct headline would be "Study rejects the hypothesis that divorce initiation is irrelevant of sex, but fails to reject it for breakups", but such headline would not be as eye-catching. The most common reason social study fails to reject a hypothesis is insufficient sample. In humans, everything is usually correlated with everything. The effect of anything on anything is almost never zero. Eye color most probably has some slight connection with one's preference for fish as everyday food, even when controlling for location and ethnicity.

Another theory is that women want to divorce more because they take on a bigger workload in the home, so they are more stressed and miserable with the marriage.

Cumulatively, for the most years we have data on, men were the ones spending more time on earning, child care, and housework combined. xxxxxxxxxxx On top of that, house work done by husbands varies from one country to another; we can get somewhat insightful eyeballing of its effect on divorce initiation by women simply by plotting both series. So, if anyone's in the mood, surprise us all. Last time I checked something similar, the correlation was either negative (i.e. more housework by men == more divorces by women), or non-existent, but I most definitely don't have a spreadsheet at hand.

Instead he seeks a secondary relationship to get his emotional and sexu needs met. He only leaves when the secondary both credibly threatens to leave if he doesn't and is beyond a doubt more appealing than the wife. Any sense that the secondary is bluffing and he won't leavd. Intuitively it makes a lot more sense that the person who initiates/wants the divorce will generally be the one to file for it.

What you are essentially proposing is that the person who actually wants the divorce is closer to a 50/50 split instead of 70/30. I see no substantiative reason to believe that. Women have much more incentive to initiate divorces:

In the majority of marriages, men make a higher salary. Women make up 98% of alimony recipients and can receive half of a man's assets obtained during their marriage.
Divorce courts are biased towards women and will virtually always award custody to the woman. 90% of women are awarded custody. Someone will inevitably bring this up: 60% of men are awarded custody in contested cases. But the reality is that the men that have the resources to contest are a minority. Dwyane Wade is worth hundreds of millions and had to hire a top tier legal team in a drawn out legal battle to get custody over his children in a divorce, meanwhile his wife was on the street claiming to be homeless.
Women are naturally hypergamous and therefore more likely to leave their man for a higher earning one. Ironically, this is the motivation for the rationale male, which is redpill's bible more or less. Rollo's brother committed suicide because his long time wife left him after a 20 year marriage, for a millionaire. You could argue that men might leave their wives for a better looking younger girl, but how often does that actually happen? Certainly far less than the scenario I just described, and when it does everybody acknowledges that the guy is a POS.

I always thought there was a non explicit agreement between husband and wife: husband works more hours per week and the wife take care of all the things OP mentioned. Even in some places like in my home country Argentina women can retire 5 years earlier than men. This was intended to be a "compensation" for the women's work at home. But anyways most countries have the same age for men's and women's retirement.

I suspect it has to do with they way men and women view life.

Men work hard and develop their life. By the time they are older they don't want to have ambitious to get further in life because they already got to a place in life they are comfortable at.

Women in the other play around in their 20s (non sexual). When they are older and settling down, they want ambitious to get further in life with their friends and family. This also leads to woman not take responsible for they own inability.

For example, if a man a women have a kid and the women switch to mother hood and doesn't put in effort with her partner (this assumes the partner is still putting in effort). She will then tipicly blame "drifting apart" as the reason when actuality it's because she just ignored that she was still in a relationship.

I have run into my own experience where a partner was annoyed and unhappy with me because I didn't do enough around the house. Even though I cleaned and offered constantly to help out with cores when ever she was doing anything.

She claimed that asking to help made it worse because she has to figure out what I could do to help and I should just be able to do the cores without asking.

Here is the real kicker, I didn't even live with her... Yet I got in shit for not helping with doing laundry (I did my laundry at my place on my own time).

She didn't have this additude because she was FDS or entitled, no she had it because she was stressed her extra work to go away. So obviously I was the problem because I wasn't adding to the solution. This type of behaviour is way more common than you think.

I think there is complexity to this figure as there are to many.

Basically women leave men because it is easier without men.

Factors that affect women that men are completely responsible for:

Unequitable household responsible.

Unequitable child care responsibility

Unequitable relationship maintenance/emotional load responsibility

The above culminating in women feeling like they are raising "another child"

Then you have women who are affected by infidelities

Lastly, the high number of women and children experiencing domestic violence/rape/assault.

There's little wonder that women leave in droves as most if not all women will experience at least one of the above in a relationship with a man.

There's a lot of nuance to this discussion.

Women have always done most of the household tasks/chores. I find it surpising that now this workload seems unfair and a viable reason to divorce. I doubt women today are doing more housework than women of previous generations. I bet it's less when you account for all the time spent on the phone..
I agree that women would file the paperwork, but mostly because of incentive. If one knew they could benefit financially from filing paperwork, they would be more likely to complete it. *Counterpoint if it's going to cost your wagings/earnings to complete the divorce paperwork you are much less likely to complete it and more willing to find a solution*. Men won't file the paperwork unless he's extremely wealthy.
Men are expected to sacrifice personal happiness, mature, and provision for family above all else. There is no other acceptable option..
Women have been told that thier happiness supersedes the nuclear family. Thus, you see the numbers...

Perhaps it's because women get an upper hand especially if there are kids involved? 50/50 custody is not the legal presumption in majority of states. Custody comes with child support.

Women divorce because at some point they start looking for a status upgrade. There is no cost to filing for divorce other than a man she's tired of, and she may or may not have accurately appraised the risks. She may be kidding herself about desirability to alpha men at her age, but I think a very high percentage of American women expect at least one divorce as a sort of marker experience, just like they expect a big wedding.

OP's post is a reminder of the old adage that denial ain't just a river in Egypt. Women initiate divorce because they want to be divorced. A hard look at the incentives involved and the high status accorded to divorce by popular entertainment aimed at women shows why.

IMO, my theory is that it’s because women on average do most of the “admin tasks” work in the household - that includes allocation of utility bills, sending paperwork for medical, social and financial events all year round.

Assuming all cheating leads to divorce, you'd expect women to divorce 65% of the time, considering men cheat significantly more in marriages than women according to the statistics.

In general, men are more likely than women to cheat: 20% of men and 13% of women reported that they've had sex with someone other than their spouse while married, according to data from the recent General Social Survey(GSS).

That leaves only 5% unexplained if you attribute divorce only to cheating. which is of course overly simplified, but very likely explains a LARGE part of the 20% difference.

my parents have been together for 25 years and when I was 7-8 my parents wanted the divorce ( my mom, mainly as the statistics said) I don't know why, but what keep them together was the financial help I mean if they are together they can have more money and the expenses will be divided, I know it bc my mom told my that later.

Another theory is that women want to divorce more because they take on a bigger workload in the home, so they are more stressed and miserable with the marriage. But I think my theory is better.

Personally I think it's done to people not appreciating what they've got.

I find women far more likely to not appreciate things and take them for granted.. with an ever growing list of demands.

Add the fact women are chased after by other men alot more frequently, have there self esteem and egos boosted more. And the big financial gain they have from divorce.

They lack risk and get rewarded for it

We can speculate the reasons why most divorces are initiated by Woman but where one stands on this debate will largely depend on one’s gender. Men will say Woman are largely responsible and Woman will say it’s Men’s fault.

What’s interesting though when it comes to the debate about the massive gender disparity in divorce initiation is that people rarely speak about who initiates the majority of marriages in the first place.

While it is obvious that Men are doing the vast majority of proposing it is equally as obvious that it’s Woman that are keeping the initiation of marriage alive at all.

As a generalisation men don’t care about marriage and they certainly don’t care about wedding. Marriage is an extremely risky financial endeavour for most Men and therefore most Men only continue to engage in it because of societal pressures created by Woman. The whole idea that a guy is not committed to a Woman unless he wants to marry her is almost entirely propagated by Woman. In this day and age there is no reason why you can’t be in a completely monogamous relationship and raise a family without the need for marriage.

The problem is many Woman don’t actually want to be married. What they want is a big wedding and than to be able to tick off the mile stone of marriage. We’ve reached a stage though where getting divorced for many Woman is now just another life mile stone to be ticked off.

It's definitely not that women are just better or more used to the admin stuff. I think the easy answer that you're overlooking is that women tend to be more unhappy in long-term relationships. Men are rarely socialized about what it takes to maintain a happy relationship. Women on the other hand are socialized about relationships and taking care of a home from childhood. Almost from right out of the crib you see baby girls taking care of baby dolls and role-playing marriage as toddlers. All while little boys are growing up thinking girls are icky and playing with cars or playing sports.

So women are way ahead of most men when it comes to relationships often by about 10 years leading most women to be unhappy over the long-term. Especially when turned off in relationships by some men who get complacent and think the courtship is over after they say I do. Or who think that their contribution to the home starts and ends with making money. And with women taking care of the house and the kids and working full-time, they end up also becoming moms to their husbands. You can see it in how a lot of men are completely lost about how to take care of themselves after long marriages end.
