To the extent one is cool with casual relationships that have a shelf life, then sure, age gaps in such relationships do not matter per se. Of course, such gaps are often correlated with other things that are less representative of our best selves, such as trading sex for lifestyle, using age-gained experience to manipulate younger women, etc.

But for real relationships where you are ostensibly aiming at a long term pairing, all things being equal, there are a lot of advantages to doing so with someone your own age. Of course, all things are often not equal, and good exceptions occur.

Yes and no. I'm in an age gap relationship myself (28M with 53F), and while attraction is the key factor which started it, it's not that easy to have a normal relationship with such a big difference in life experience. I find she's very independent and busy all the time, and we're not quite able to 'grow together'.

Attraction mattering is part of why age gaps matter. If you're telling the truth, you're the exception. Young women are rarely attracted to men a decade or more older than them. And quite frankly, no matter how attracted you are, attraction isn't the only thing that matters. Age gaps decrease relationship satisfaction and increase risks of abuse, breakups and divorce.

Date who you want but I tend to percieve men that date women much younger than themselves as more low value as it's pretty well accepted that younger people (especially late teens) are more naive about potential red flags. Wrong - age gaps have an astronomically higher divorce rate in the USA, compared to couples with small or no age gap differences. Couples with one year age gap difference have the lowest rates of divorce. So for anyone who wants a marriage that actually lasts, or a relationship that even approaches possibility of marriage and kid, age gaps aren't a great way to go. Some couples make it work though. But just for casual dating and fucking, sure. I mean all kinds of couples fuck and spend time together. As you mentioned, even older women have plenty of fun with young men. My bf and I are both in our mid 30s (33 and 34 as of Jan). When I was single, I definitely had younger guys into me. That's not new though. I think it happens a lot. My mom was the "hot mom" and I had kids in middle / high school asking me for her number when she was well into her 40s. She's still cute, but the signs of aging finally started showing up in her later 50s, she's now 59. She still looks good though, imo. Could definitely be a massive cougar if she wanted to be, but she's married and doesn't believe in that. She and my dad have been together since 16. Couples who marry young have higher divorce rates than those who marry a bit older, but they beat those odds, in part because they have only one year apart in age gap.

There are exceptions to every rule, but I'm wary of relationships between a young person and a much older person. I don't personally differentiate between young men/older women or young women/older men (or hell, same-sex couples), because the issue is the difference in life stages and maturity. People in their teens and early 20s are generally inexperienced and less likely to spot red flags. They are barely considered adults, and are still developing as a person. Hell, brain development continues until your mid-20s.

Older people and teens are particularly alarming to me. Legal or not, it feels predatory. As a woman in her late 20s, 18 and 19 year olds seem like practically children. As such, I feel extremely uncomfortable with the idea that someone my age or older would date them. Age gaps matter less as you get older and grow into your own person, but most teenagers are still trying to figure that out.

Be careful though as you might be trading lifestyle for sex without realizing it... Every relationship is a particular case and there are plenty of healthy and genuinely loving age gap relationships, though it's not the norm.

Assuming everyone is past the legal age, I do think age is just a number and does not directly correlate with maturity, experience, wisdom, or even physical changes. There's a lot of interesting studies on "anti-aging" from people like David Sinclair showing how biological age should be differentiated from chronological age, and how the former can be reversed to a certain extent.

I've had girls tell me how they couldn't have seen themselves going out with a guy my age before they met me.

Because alot of things correlation with age, especially experience and maturity.

Age gap is suddenly irrelevant when the attraction is there.

Firstly, age is a component of attractiveness and younger men are more attractive. You seem to be a DILF, so you are an exception.

Secondly,age gap may not matter that much for casual sex but it does when it comes to relationships. Chasing college babes is not a wise choice for a mid thirty year old guy who wants to settle down.
