I think some men's aversion to female hookup culture has a lot to do with feeling insecure about the perception that promiscuous and sexually desirable women are more likely to cheat (too much choice). Whereas some women's aversion to prostitution culture is born out of the exact opposite fear that a man who has paid for sex must be undesirable (not enough choice).

As for the legality of prostitution it seems like making independent escorts legal would be the obvious solution that pretty much avoids the issue of trafficking and coercion that opponents take issue with. Once you consider that escorts often screen their clients and reserve the right to refuse any client who might make them uncomfortable or due to poor hygiene, the argument for prostitution being a uniquely coercive industry or sex workers lacking agency falls apart pretty quickly.

The first and second times I had casual sex, I did it for one simple reason: I wanted to have sex without the 30 hour getting to know/vetting phase. It's not really about the money. The issue is that once a guy has done that, like he has breached the psychological barrier, who's to say he won't do it again? Like, women who aren't paid for sex, if he hooks up with her while with you, there's a fairly good chance there will be drama and she will confront him about it and end up contacting you the girlfriend to let you know what the man has been up to. It happens all the time. But for a prostitute, she has a vested and material interest in keeping her mouth shut, so he could be cheating on you and you'd have no way of knowing, which isn't the case with normal civilian women. With normal civilian women, men usually get caught.

It's just about steering away from men who are more likely to cheat and get away with it.
