I am really an independent but I believe very confidently that feminism is a tool used by the left to energize their voter base. You saw that last year with Roe v Wade being overturned all the left had to do was say they would protect women's rights and they all flocked to the polls. My local congressman (a republican) even voted against it being overturned when he was in office, when he ran for mayor of the state (NY) his opponent used Roe v Wade to get voters, even if the Republicans where I am wanted to keep Roe v Wade intact.

Edit: He ran for Governor not mayor.

I'm fairly conservative. I want people to focus more on their responsibilities. I think kids deserve their parents, and should have a stay at home parent available. I think people have a responsibility to their parents and other family members that is often neglected. I think we do a shit job of supporting each other, and I think people should be held responsible when their family goes without. I am conservative in that I believe in "traditional" family living - focusing on the needs of the family over the wants. Focusing on handmade, locally made goods and services. I am in favor of people living together with extended family. I am in favor of victory gardens and having a pair of chickens to have some eggs, even if you live in town. I feel like a family of four shouldn't need more than one person working outside the house, and I judge men a little bit who aren't ambitious and put-together enough that their wife has to work - if she chooses to work, that's another thing, and if SHE works while HE stays home, that's cool with me too.

I don't want police harassing people for drugs. I want people to have access to healthcare when they need it, and it'd be nice if the corruption could be worked on and the price could come down a little. I think we spend a lot of money on crumbling roads, and that sucks when we could maybe get some busses or just build stuff closer together so we didn't have to drive at all. Ultimately, I want things like abortion to be legal.

I don't know what that political outlook is.

I wouldn't consider myself either. Maybe on paper I'd agree with more traditionally "left wing" ideas, but I am so incredibly disgusted by the left at this point that I want nothing to do with them. Basically leftism has changed entirely to Marxism in all of its forms (so, identity politics, anti-capitalism/pro-communism, collectivism over individualism, etc.) on top of being so annoyingly PC.

It's not that the right is "inherently" correct, but at least they don't dominate and corrupt like 99% of all institutions. At this point, I feel more comfortable around right wing people than I do around left wing people, who are almost universally extremely close-minded, bigoted, racist, sexist, hypocritical & anti-science in every way.

But again, on paper, I still believe in things like healthcare, affordable higher education, gun control, etc. I also am not religious & I don't believe in traditional gender roles or anything like that.

As far as MRAs are concerned, I'd argue the basic tenets of MRA are inherently left-wing, since they are ALL a rejection of "traditional gender roles", which does not fit with the right in principle. The claim that MRAs are somehow "alt-right incels" simply does not stand up to scrutiny. On that point, why does it even matter? The fact that something being "right wing" immediately is associated with something being "horrible" and "bigoted" already proves how corrupt, close-minded & prejudiced these left-wing hypocrites are. They preach love & tolerance all day long, but if you're right wing, suddenly you're evil? What a joke.

I’ve always been on the left until my recent introduction to family law. The left has no interest in addressing the bias against fathers in family court. Going forward I will be voting conservative as they are more likely to change family law to recognize fathers as equal parents. Justin Trudeau hasn’t done anything.

I’m fairly moderate and tend to disagree with extremists on both sides, but as many moderate liberals become progressive, my moderate views become more right leaning in contrast.

For example, I’m very opposed to discrimination which used to be very much inline with my moderate liberal friends, but as they’ve started supporting progressive identity politics and associated discrimination, they now consider my non discrimination stance to be very right.

I find it interesting and sad that advocating non discrimination is now considered an extreme view by many.

By American standards I'm very left.

But the modern political left is more or less defined and controlled by identity politics.

By the modern left's standards I'm right wing which would hurt me if they weren't pursuing a decidedly insane set of ideals. And by right wingers I'd be labelled very lefty.

There's at least 3 types of lefties. First, neoliberals, the standard established democrats, soccer moms, blue no matter who, that sort of deal. Second, progressives. The woke folk, obsessed with social justice, feminism, LGBTQ issues and such. The ones everyone likes to shit on and often gives the left a bad name, even though some of their issues absolutely have merit. And third, I'm not sure what you would call these people but I'm one of them. Jimmy dore refers to these people as just leftists, and that's what I tend to call them too. They share a lot of opinions with the progressives, but they are mostly or even solely focused on tangible issues, like economics, domestic policy, climate issues, healthcare, gun control, wages, unions, etc. Social issues like LGBTQ issues and feminism aren't as important to them as progressives, and some do not care for those sorts of social issues at all, like me. In my case and most other leftists, i do tacitly agree with these issues, at least some of them, but they are no where near my main concern.

I have to be honest, men's rights are not a big concern to me either for the most part, except for one, circumcision. That is my pet issue. The big one to me. Of course, being a man I do care about these issues because they affect me personally but I think a lot of people, myself included, don't tend to get worked up over an issue unless it's one that actually effects them. That's why I'm so worked up over circumcision, but maybe as I get older more issues that effect men will start to affect me more and I will get more passionate about men's rights as a whole. I'm already dealing with the difficulty most men face in the dating scene right now, but that and circumcision are really the only things I have to worry about at the moment, I'm still pretty young in my mind 20s

Bill Maher has been going on for months about how the Democrats are killing themselves with this woke bullshit, he’s now banned from CNN and MSNBC and only does interviews on Fox. Erin Brockovich, lifelong activist, and lifelong Democrat, was on Fox News two nights ago ripping Biden a new ass for not doing anything about the environmental catastrophe in Ohio. He clearly doesn’t care because Ohio voted Republican. So all of Ohio can drop dead from his point of view.

On one side you have feminists and the other side you have traditional conservatives, both of them are revolved around what will benefit females. Men should see through the idea that either side of the political spectrum cares about men. Except in modern days it's Maga vs Woke but I live in SF so I'm around waaaaaay more far left than far right so my bias is skewed there. I don't lean all the way left but mostly. Anti-capitalist, want to change the economic focus to housing first priority, want to get us all on a single payer system for medical care and make sure everyone has their basic needs met as just a bog standard of existing in America, none of this "Live paycheck to paycheck at the will of your rich employer" bullshit. Nuke private prisons from orbit, rebuild the entire legal system to be about protecting people from violent crimes, and change the function of police at a fundamental level. Also get rid of private schools and integrate the current rich kid population into the poorest kid population, and tax the everything shit out of rich parents so that all kids can have access to the same opportunities and after school programs that the rich kids do. Also large amounts of heritable wealth, businesses, and estates needs to be abolished.

But also feminism has major issues and likes to blame men for all issues, which is invalid. Fuck it too.

I'm as far left as I can be. But I think that many people on these types of forums are implicitly right wing for a few reasons.

The idea of femininity and feminine nature as something immutable rather than driven by environmental factors is a huge difference between right and left (this is true in general, think poverty, fitness, health, etc. - it's about environment for most people on the left and often about innate qualities on the right)
Since many (although not all) men's rights folks are anti feminist, and feminism is a left leaning ideology (not in all cases but mostly), it stands to reason that reactionaries to feminism are right wing.
Many men's rights folks are pro-tradition rather than change, another Hallmark of conservatism.

None of these things are inherently bad, but I think that's why there are many right wingers here. For example, there's an /r/menslib but I don't think there's an equivalent right wing men's right sub because well... This is it.

I used to be proud of saying that I am left wing, but seeing that leftists, especially in general media, seem to easily lean towards extremes, I started to rather not call myself left wing. But, politically, definitely left wing.

Men's rights became demonized by a faction of what is considered left of center, likely a spinoff from the original feminism ideas that needed a new windmill to tilt against. It's one of many reasons I don't consider myself aligned with the Democratic platform.

I’m all about worker’s rights and policies that benefit the average working person. I’m socially progressive within reason - people should have freedom to do as they please as long as it doesn’t harm anybody.

The wealthy people at the top have done an excellent job of convincing working class people to vote against their own best interests. The right wing has always been the party of the rich man. People get so worked up over god/abortion/brown immigrants/gays to the point they happily vote against their own best interests to make sure their religious or “moral” values get shoved down everybody’s throats.

I'm fiscally conservative, and hold no opinions on anything to do with genders other than "male" (I'm a man, so my opinion doesn't matter, apparently) but left wing on basically everything else. Even fiscally I have a lot of left wing beliefs.

I believe in legalization of weed and many other drugs, reducing the size of the military-industrial complex, prison reform, police reform (Snowden proposed having lawsuits come out of the police pension funds, which I think is a great idea), I'm anti-civil-forfeiture, and support denuclearization, clean energy, abolishing the death penalty, and support a progressive income tax (in theory, specifics matter for the last one).

In fact, aside from wanting to reduce or abolish the capital gains tax for earnings of less than $100k per year, I'm probably pretty left wing fiscally as well. (Although im pretty pro guns, despite not owning one).

I don't know whether MRA is considered "left" or "right" but I don't think it matters, because it is all common sense to me...

Stop mutilating baby boys' penises
stop discriminating against men in family courts
ban lifetime alimony
require some sort of evidence for sex crime accusations
stop telling men that their voices don't matter
address the insane rates of depression, suicide, and homelessness in young boys and men
etc.

I don't think any of that last bit is too crazy, right?

My conservative tendencies value things like family and marriage, though I have eventually conceded that the current legal framework for marriage is so corrupt and malicious that I would no longer suggest it or even view it as a form of traditional marriage. I value ideas like being fiscally conservative and freedom of religion.

I do think that the right to bear arms is key to preserving our freedoms, though I do think this right can be abused and that some behavior isn't tolerable.

My next statement may be controversial, but I also value equality. On the far right, equality has always been about equality between races. If you look at it in both a historical and modern perspective, the left hasn't and isn't doing well in this area. The only change to their policies that encourage inequity between races is who their target is.

My leftist tendencies include ideas such as freedom of speech and equality between sexes. I don't think feminism really wants equality, and I honestly believe the only true and valid equality has to be a legal one with equal treatment under the law. By that current standard, men do not have anything close to equality in the west.

I also believe that welfare or something like it has a place in society. I think workers should have rights, and those rights should be honored. I do think something like state education through the university level is a good idea. I also think that state gyms available to all to encourage fitness among the general population would be an equally brilliant idea.

I am a conservationist and think reasonable and well thought out attempts to protect the environment are a good idea. I don't put electric cars in that category since the production and recycling of them are more cost intensive in terms of dollars and conservation. Worse, they only displace their energy consumption. Considering the bulk of our energy is produced by coal, electric cars are actually more polluting. I think, as some countries in Europe are demonstrating, hydrogen combined with nuclear power in the short term and fusion in the long-term will eventually be the best answer.

I should point out that in my personal opinion, the left hasn't been doing well on traditionally leftist issues. I specifically highlight freedom of speech and equality between the sexes. Worse, I don't see them actively focused on the common man or worker anymore, a state of things that is somewhat confusing.

Neither side is perfect, and both have some good and bad ideas. The left, however, is yielding some of their best ideas to the right. I will follow the ideas that seem the most ethical and best to me and damn the political party, regardless of who they are, that refuses to listen to the needs of common folk like me.

I think the entire two-wings dichotomy is of limited helpfulness, and seems more fit to keep the masses embroiled in artificial conflict than it is useful to resolve problems. No idea what that makes me - probably politically homeless. I can tell you that I don't fit the left idea of the right, and I don't fit the right idea of the left either, and I've been accused of being either by both.

I am, for example, in favour of religion having no say in state matters. This means an end for special rights for churches (so the right already hates me), but it also means that religion cannot be cited to allow the violation of Human Rights (e.g. male genital mutilation), so both the left and right in my country stand against me on that. On the other hand, I am also in favour of letting people exercise personal freedom and responsibility, so I am opposed by both sides of the spectrum here regularly (every one of our major parties falls on the 'authoritative' half of the political compass).

edit, to expound on why both sides vilify my stance on the MGM issue: The self-ascribed Left goes "He hates Jews - he's a Nazi!". The self-proclaimed Right hollers "He hates religion, he is a darn-diddely-doody Leftie!".

I am probably considered a traditional moderate democrat/liberal -- I support environmental causes, generally want equality for everyone, want a certain amount of government programs, supported gay marriage, etc.

However, I'm completely turned off by the new "woke" left. Completely. Biden has a Gender Policy Council for only women and girls -- that's Orwellian in its craziness.

That there are "educated" people making ridiculous, anti-male statements, and getting paid for it, saddens me. So at this point, I consider myself an independent, a man without a party.

The anti-male woke left isn't for me, and the Trump/Q-Anon/Fox News right ain't for me either. There's not much left in the middle.

They make that comparison because (either unknowingly or not) movements like this tend to mimic the alt-right pipeline and how it radicalises people.

You take an issue that has some basis; mental health for men has gone unaddressed for decades. Then you create a scapegoat for this; feminism, women. And to substantiate that scapegoat, you post inflammatory, cherry-picked articles in order to paint that group as the cause of all your problems. You now no longer focus on the issue itself but instead the “other.” You dehumanise the other, women, to paint yourselves as the victims in a way that is no longer accurate.

People on the right tend to think of the world as a zero sum game, where people cannot gain without taking from others. Obviously, feminism is focused on helping women, but that doesn’t mean that it’s at the cost of men. And yet I see so many posts that seem to indicate this. So the comparisons to “alt right incels” are true, because if it quacks like a duck…

And the right is looked down upon, generally. Look at the US since 2016 and you will see why it is not favourable to be anything like them.

I find that men’s rights movements get labeled as right wing because people representing (or thought to represent them) lack the words to describe the issues per the sociology terms. Like patriarchy is a concept in sociology that is helpful for understanding the struggles men face. Then there are a bunch of people who don’t support transgender rights. So can be claimed to be right wing.

I really dislike organized religions. I supports human rights (and men’s rights and women's rights depending on what rights). I agree with the left on helping people out with saftey nets and security. Biggest problem I have are a lot of policies focus on helping soley women.

I lived in CO for a while and they actively work to help homeless women a lot more as an example. Right now they are doing a test program to give homeless women 1k a month to help them get back on their feet.

So there's that to contend with unfortunately.

I feel this may come as surprising to anyone who peruses my profile, but I am socially left wing. I believe in independence and self determination, and I see myself as a true egalitarian. My views have changed over the years akin to a pendulum, but ultimately what I’ve determined is that I’m never going to align with either side 100% of the time.

With that being said on terms of social issues (such as this subreddit), I side with the left more than the right. While I see myself as religious in the modern day it should be acceptable under the state to identify and live your life as you wish.

I feel that both sides come from a place of hatred a lot of the time, and that is something I cannot stand to see. Hatred directed at me (a white man in his 20s) or minorities, or gays, or whatever. Hate is the wrong answer.

Unfortunately due to the times we live in, we must be vigilant in our principles. I disagree with those I need to when necessary.

The 1950s family, a fucked-up misandrist family court system, men being told to be masculine, men being told to NOT be masculine, men being told to be "white knights", the myth of testosterone making men the "aggressive sex", false accusations of rape and sexual harassment, the myth of females being hopelessly weaker than males (no matter how much they work out), and more.

Many of these problems are social and cannot be solved with politics.
