I've casually browsed this sub before and something that I can definitely say I've noticed is that many men can go their whole lives without ever seeing much validation. However, it is deeper than that. I do believe there is a constant push as a man to always be self-improving and becoming better, and personally there is nothing wrong with envisioning who you could become and knowing what your flaws are, and aiming for that ideal.

However, I believe what disillusions a lot of men is this message that even when you have fulfilled some achievement and you have accomplished personal goals, and you are trying to be better, there is always this outside consensus that whatever you are proud of- it is trivial, you need to be more, you need to be doing more, you have to prove your worth, what right do you have to feel proud?

Whereas I don't see the same messaging from others for women to the same degree. I don't see this constant underlying message of you are not enough, you need to improve, why aren't you doing more? From a lot of pop culture and others.

I'm sure there are a lot of women who feel inadequate, and I don't believe messages like you should love yourself and you deserve to feel good about yourself and your accomplishments are in any way negative. Yet I feel frequently men are told they have to aspire to x, y and z- not even just in dating, in terms of life goals, yet I don't get that this messaging is directed to women to the same degree.

For instance, the ideas of body positivity are, at least from what I see, more directed towards women.

Am I wrong? Are men allowed to be "good enough" and not have to prove themselves?
