I'd say that one thing to consider when thinking about this is what exactly is being "poor at communication".

You can look at this two ways, and both can be right. On the women's side, there is the argument that if you can't pick up "common social queues" then you need to improve your skills, which is correct, to a point. On the mens side you have the argument "the way most women communicate is unnecessarily subtle and confusing". That is also correct, to a point.

This is something that isn't always one way. If you actually read anything about communication as a skill, then you quickly realize that "poor communication" is a discrepancy between what one side says and the other understands.

I do think that men do have a tendency to pin a lot of their own inadequacies on not understanding how women communicate, which can be a crutch. But I do see a lot of shutting down from men to other men on this point. Granted, I think it's more from the point of view of "it sucks, but you need to learn this", but it is pressure to improve communication skills, even if it's coming from a fatalistic place.

I will call out (in a gentle way - I don't think this is as bad an issue as some) women though. I don't see as much mention on that side that being excessively subtle when communicating to men is poor quality of message. If you know your audience is different than you, it is your fault if you communicate in the same way you would to someone like you.

Most of the time, what bothers me is the implicit assumption by women that men should be communicating the same way as they themselves do, which is treating men like they are defective women. No - men and women do often have different communication styles.

Men also do this, but like I said I see more calling out and acceptance of that on the male side of the debate (probably because men are more competitive so they can push each other to improve more often), so that's why I'm pushing the point about women a bit more. Supporting someone when you know they are fucking something up doesn't help them - it helps you (avoid an conflict).

As an autistic woman who struggles with understanding non verbal cues, males have always been easier to deal with. Females always bullied me (in childhood through adulthood) mostly because I do not communicate like them. Meanwhile, I find dealing with men a bit easier. Not that there are no bad men, but the communication is really straightforward it blows my mind.

My biggest problem with women's communication is that they get mad at a guy for doing the same thing they do. If a girl gives me the cold shoulder, I'm expected to just figure out what's making her angry. If I do the same, all of a sudden I'm the problem for not clearly communicating my needs. It's also really tough for men who are neurodivergent in some manner. Men are significantly more likely to be diagnosed and hit harder by the symptoms of conditions such as autism, ADHD, OCD, and other conditions that make it incredibly difficult to properly pick up social cues. Women are free to communicate however they want, but them expecting me to pick up on all the ques all the time is exhausting. I don't want more work in my life to try and figure out what's wrong.

Plausible deniability is correct, if she didn't specifically say certain words and only hinted at you non verbally then she can just deny trying to communicate a like or dislike or an "I want" or "I don't want". Women think they are good at non-verbal communication and picking up on details. They call it a woman's intuition.

There are countless times when they misinterpret (sometimes probably intentionally), misportray, and misread what I am saying and what my intentions are. Of course, being a man, they would blame it on me by saying I didn't communicate properly even when I tell them straight up or when I explain things to them, they may say that 'you're just trying to talk yourself out of it'.

I have come to the realization that when people say women are delusional, it's not just about her standards being unrealistic. It's also about them about delusional about the truth and reality of the situation, meaning they invent fantasies of what actually happened or what was said.

Humans, like many other animals, have developed non-verbal communication over our evolution. Some people struggle with this, and instead of banishing them or labelling them as village idiots, we are now trying to change how we think about different ways of communication and adjusting our society so more people can thrive.

Women, as far as I'm aware, have no preternatural communication abilities, so it seems strange to me that you imply all (or most) women are able to communicate in a way that men don't understand. From what I've read and experienced women do tend to be more capable socially and learn to navigate social interactions faster, but that doesn't mean that they are poor communicators, it means that they are communicating in more subtle ways that you are struggling to understand. Men are as able as women to understand body language and inflection, but in this society, girls seem to spend more time honing this skill than boys, which can make it more challenging in later life to understand.

For example, I see that in a lot of sex-segregated high schools during lunch, the female schools have more groups of girls sitting around talking and practicing social skills (Did you see that side eye Bethany gave you? She's so mad but won't say it) while in boys schools (according to my partner and his friends) played more games and attempted to whack each other in the nuts as often as possible.

I can empathise with your frustration, sometimes my partner won't communicate with me what he's mad about because he feels I should just "get it" but it isn't a woman/man problem, and if women in your life are behaving this way you could just write them off as entitled brats, or see if there is something personal you need to work on. Maybe you're missing what many seem to be obvious cues?

It’s a little bit more nuanced then that. The majority of my personal communication issues with men is that men often don’t want to acknowledge that there’s an issue that needs to be addressed- specifically if it their own actions that need addressing. I can recount more times than I’d like when I’ve practically given my partners a full power point presentation over an issue that’s bothered me and why (complete with a list of solutions) only to be brushed off/ ignored completely. Usually because it “isn’t that important.” Well it is if I have to sit you down like a child and explain it to you. If I’m ignored/passed off and the problem persists that’s not on me.

So it’s two way street. A lot of women may rely way too much on nonverbal communication in your opinion, but does that even matter if men don’t want to try to pay attention/ listen?

Communication is both verbal and non-verbal.

Being a good communicator requires adeptness at both, which means being able to deliver and receive.
Being a good communicator means being able to actively listen to oral communication and actively observe non-verbal cues.
Being a good communicator means being able to understand and respect the feelings and perspectives of others, unspoken or otherwise. Being able to read the room or the environment. A.k.a. being a good communicator requires empathy.

TLDR: Based on the common definitions of being a “good communicator,” your OP hasn’t convinced me that women are any “poorer” at it than men. Rather it seems, men and women have different styles of communication they prefer.

(SN: That said, I’ve personally noticed that men don’t actually prefer or enjoy “direct communication” from their wives and female family members. They tend to feel “emasculated” when women are that way. They tend to stomach direct feedback better from men. What I’m saying is men want to be able to offer “direct objective” feedback to their female partner, but don’t necessarily want her to do the same toward him. There's some truth to this, but to be honest, I think men are generally just socially-retarded, and women see that weakness and exploit it. You could make the moral argument that they know what we mean when we speak directly but choose to be unnecessarily disingenuous, and I might agree with you to some extent, but I also think men could do more to be better equipped when communicating with women.

Speaking to men is easy coz even if something is explained horribly, we're very happy to give the benefit of the doubt or ask for further clarification in order to extract the information. My experience talking to women have shown me that they care more about delivery than information. I won't deny that it's annoying, but I also can't justify the mentality of feeling entitled to others always meeting you where you're at (not you personally) when we could take steps to be more socially savvy (even if the other side constantly expects us to meet them where they're at). It only benefits us as men, and women aren't gonna stop being women.

Women don't know how to communicate, true. They are basically children when it comes to commuicating. They expect us to read their minds. Girls are allowed to express their emotions as children and so they learn to pick up on non-verbal communication better than boys who are told emotions make you weak and we should be a man. So as men we don't pick up on subtle hints women give. I don't play games. Ladies if you're interested or not just use your words (like we have to tell toddlers) and say so. Most men will respect you more if your up front in what you want. Don't say "The kitchen is dirty". Say "Honey, would you mind helping me clean the kitchen". We know the kitchen is dirty. We just don't think its the end of the world if it doesn't get cleaned today. So like I tell my children, use your words.

One thing that always confused me is that the primary way of communication in other facets of life like business, government, healthcare, etc. are much more direct into the point similar to how men are generally described in their communication. Yes, typically those fields you are not expressing emotional content, so maybe it’s an unfair comparison, and there’s always the patriarchy argument to say why the male form of communication is prevalent, but wouldn’t you want to make your communication style better fitting to the rest of the world? It feels somewhat arrogant to say the rest of the world is wrong, and therefore men are wrong for not learning your communication style.

Hell even emotional fields such as therapy eventually end up direct, usually in the form of recommendation, as that is what you’re paying for.

When I was in college my roommates were deeply impressed at my ability to summon the man of my choice from across the room merely by making eyes at him. It pretty much always worked! If non-verbal communication were really sooooo opaque to men in general... that would not have been so effective.

I don't know why you think it's super common for women to "gleefully berate, insult, mock, and reject well-meaning normal men." Every time I've been extremely rude to a man who approached me it's been because he ignored a soft no and an explicit no. Same for all the times I've seen my friends be rude to men. At that point, he 100% deserved it and IDK what else we were supposed to do to make him go away.

A man unable to decipher non-verbal communication isn't an anti-social creepy loser who deserves to die alone, he's just not necessarily someone a lot of us want to have a relationship with or start one with. Most of communication is non-verbal, so not being able to understand it usefully is quite a huge downside I wouldn't necessarily be interested in dealing with (apparently a lot of women feel the same). Now of course, the further into a relationship you get, the more opportunity there is to have a bad day or fuck up the discernment, so not all is lost.

It's not a duty to interpret them, it's an honor, good sir. You don't have to do it. It's the honor you accept when you wish for a different interaction. If you cannot interpret interest, you'll simply end up knocking on a lot of closed doors yelling trick or treat to people that are asleep.

In middle school if not earlier, you would have learned that communication is much much more than words. Don't pretend your limitation is our failing, good sir. You should be able to detect what is meant in most environments at most times using all the context clues and non-verbal communications. If this system is to your detriment, feel free not to engage with it.

I don’t know. I’m autistic and a woman and I also find neuro”typicals” to be poor communicators, but that’s because they use the same words but speak a different language. They use language completely differently and it’s confusing. They don’t include context in the words. It’s weird.
It actually really annoys me when Red Pill men conflate neurotypical behaviour as being stereotypical female behaviour. It really reminds me why so many Red Pill guys are the way they are. They are directing the anger they should have at the socially dominant group (neuro”typicals”) on to women. The fact is NT’s are socially dominant and have therefore created a world that works best from them. They aren’t necessarily a majority, they are just more powerful because of their social styles.

I do tend to get “creeped out” more by autistic men than NT men because it’s obvious when they are attracted to me. I don’t like any men being attracted to me, but I don’t know if it’s an NT man. I’ll think we are friends then they randomly try to kiss me or something. With an autistic man I can read it through body language and non verbal cues. Ironically. I’m not sure if NT women can read it instinctually like autistic women can but they generally form bad first impressions of all autistics, regardless of gender.

I wouldn’t bother trying to date non autistic women. I don’t. I gave up. I look good on the outside, so I can easily hook up if I go to a noisy club where you can’t hear each other speak. But only autistic women want to continue meeting up once we actually have a conversation. I always tell them I’m autistic and they either make a weird face or say “I think I might be too” or “so am I!”.

They don't actually have a need for those. Men will value them for sex. Women will value them because men value them. Simple as that. Thats why:

There is no such a thing as a ugly "queen bee" or "top woman in a group"
Women can't deliver jokes (it requires social competency)
Women's friendships end quickly and consistently (read friendship here as actual friendships where they actually like each other and go help each others in the times of need instead of backstabbing each other behind their backs, I call these "close acquaintances")
Women speakers always suck but male ones can vary a lot, some being great speakers (politics, academics, etc).
Women, in times of mourning like in the times of the death of a loved one, will always fuck up and say something inadequate.
Women rarely can pick up many non verbal signals (eye communication, the "its alright", buffing, the "you are acting like a child" look. etc)

I am a woman and I agree with this. Something about being direct as a woman seems to make other women shut down. Especially women in leadership positions. It’s okay for men to speak directly to them but heaven forbid a woman asks a direct question. I feel as if we are perceived as more aggressive for being direct than men are which may be why we have to overthink how we communicate and often fail at it. I’m either rude or too emotional and the only other option is to put up and shut up.

I had a man at work recently ask me “how long have you been married?” No ring on my finger. I knew what I was in for. He kept saying “I’m not trying to make you uncomfortable.” As a woman I’ve been trained to make men who make me uncomfortable, well, comfortable. Eventually he asked if he could give me a foot rub (seriously, and yes this happened maybe two weeks ago). I finally turned to him and said “well you are making me uncomfortable.”

This man reacted like a fucking child. I had to call a man to come be by me so he’d leave me alone. I’m a nurse who works at a hospital and men tend to think they can talk any kinda way to me and management tends to agree.

Women are taught from an early age to make men comfortable. I advocate women make men way, way less comfortable.

Be more direct women. Tell these men to fuck off. They’ll bitch and moan, and possibly shoot up the place since men can’t handle emotions… but do it.

Women aren’t poor communicators. Men are bad at hearing the truth and tend to have temper tantrums.

For debate purposes only I said this of course. This is only true of like 75 percent of men.

The communication may be annoying for you but it is not poor communication in the sense that it is doing exactly what it is meant to do: filter out men who will either not understand the signal or will not react as desired. The subtler or more opaque the signal, the stricter the filter. All is working as intended. That you dislike the intention is another matter entirely.

you’re referring to high context versus low context communication. it’s not accurate to say that high context communication is inherently worse than low context- especially given entire cultures (ex Japan, China) use high context communication.

men love to blame the problem on women instead of learning how to improve their interpersonal relational communication skills. maybe you have something to learn from the way women communicate.
