I’m going to say racism and “selective” devil’s advocating.

I have never known a man (or woman) who was racist that also wasn’t a misogynist.

I’ll use “selective devil’s advocating” in the racist/sexism context and in just a sexism context:

White, rich college man accused of rape, little to no details given out.

Scrote: “Well she was probably drunk and asking for it or she’s just accusing him because she wants attention/wanted a relationship and he just wanted a hookup/etc”

Black, rich (or poor) college (or drop out) man accused of rape, little to no details given out.

Scrote: “Oh, where are all the Black Lives Matter people now? They’re pretty quiet when one of their own does something like this.”

Both instances the female victim is never acknowledge as a person who may be (and likely is) credible. In the first instance, the scrote defends the white man by putting down the woman. In the second instance, the scrote does not acknowledge that he thinks the female victim is credible (because he likely does not, because he hates women), however he is using the situation to put down a black person/people. He does not acknowledge the victim in the second scenario at all; because then he would have to say he believes a female’s rape accusation. However he hates black people so much that he is going to talk about the black person’s guilt. Notice when the races are reversed he immediately attacks the female victim’s credibility, but since he needs “fodder” for his racist confirmation bias, he will just not address the victim in the situation.

Another example of selective devil’s advocating.

I’ll use a current event but this happens all the time.

The Gabby Petition disappearance/murder (tons of examples of misogyny in this but I’ll stick to the most latest ones since her body was found and it was determined to be murder):

Scrote: “Well, he probably killed her in self-defense. She admitted to physically abusing him before (ignoring that DV victims do that at times so their abuser does not get arrested).”

Scrote: “Well how do we even know Brian killed her? She could have decided she wanted to stay because she met someone else and told him to drive home, then someone else killed her (ignoring all of Brian’s extremely suspect actions after the murder).”

When Gabby was merely missing but now one knew for sure she was dead:

Scrote: “She is obviously mentally unstable. She probably told him to go because she decided to live off the grid.”

Scrote: “I don’t blame Brian for leaving her and driving back to Florida (in HER van!). She is obviously abusive.”

Scrote: “She probably met another guy there and decided to stay (even though there is literally not a shred of evidence of this). Brian doesn’t need to tell her parents anything.”

In many examples the scrote is refusing to learn about the complexities of a DV relationship, because if he did, he would have to acknowledge that A LOT of men are abusers.

If the situation was two dudes on a road trip:

After body was found:

Scrote: “OMG, fuck that guy, he killed his friend on their road trip!!! Who strangled their best friend?! Dude is obviously a psycho.”

Before the body was found.

Scrote: “He obviously did killed his friend. Why would he just drive back and not answer any of his buddy’s parents phone calls? Why would he have stolen his friend’s van and driven back at all? Why would he immediately hire an attorney if it was something innocent, like that his buddy just wanted to stay longer and told him to go ahead and go home without him?”

You get the idea. Some people are better at hiding the racism because so many people get publicly blasted for it, but I rarely see people get blasted for “selective devil’s advocating,” when it comes to always putting down female victims. It could be because if you bring it up they say something stupid like “innocent until proven guilty!” “You are convicting someone before a jury has.” “I am just bringing up all possibilities.”

These idiots act like you can’t have an opinion on what likely happened until a jury rules. They also ignore the fact that the bar for criminal convictions is beyond a reasonable doubt, not beyond a “shadow” of doubt.

In the rare case that a rape case is successfully prosecuted they usually say something like that the prosecutor was on the vindictive girl’s side.

If perp pleads out he says that he was forced to do it so he wasn’t burned at the stake and brings up a person he knows or heard of who a “false” rape allegation “ruined their life.”

He also doesn't want to use condoms because they "don't feel the same" or whatever bullshit. He had no qualms about putting the burden of birth control, abortion and child birth on women because his pee pee's "uncomfortable."

If he mockingly mimics women. Like, say he’s talking about something a woman said, or that he claims she said, be it his ex, his mom, sister, friend, coworker, etc. and instead of just saying “she said _” in a normal tone, he “quotes” her (again, this could be a real quote, hyperbole, or completely made up) in a high pitched, annoying tone of voice.

Do not ignore this red flag. Don’t brush it off, or give the benefit of the doubt. He’s not just joking, he’s not a funny guy doing impressions. This kind of mocking mimicry belies a level of contempt that cannot be ignored. IIRC, Lundy Bancroft even mentions it in his book, but I’ve seen it in action in real life too. Every single guy I’ve known who did this was deeply misogynistic. Not recognizing this as a red flag in the past meant I had to find out way later when things got really bad.

Also, most (if not all) men who hold deep seeded misogynistic core values will not admit they are misogynists. They will swear to their dying day that they’re good guys and they respect women. Don’t make the mistake of asking them point blank and taking their word for it. They’ll just learn to cover up their misogyny better.
