I agree with the OP, the market is over saturated with those stories. But there are many women like me who are starved for different types of stories without heteronormative gender roles. But the mainstream doesn’t want it and calls it perverted, so we have to write our own stories. For instance, I love anime with tomboyish women, effeminate androgynous twinks, same sex relationships, or straight relationships with reverse gender roles. Other tropes that you see in chick flics is the super beautiful woman who isn’t like because she wears glasses and likes science courses or Theater or BS like that. Does that correspond with reality? Another one is that in this movies alpha queen bee girls do exist (which is in contradiction with RP ideas) and it usually is with the alpha male. How many writers for these shows are men, and how many of the executives hiring these writers are men? I've done a little research. Netflix is heavily data-driven. They'll be among the first to have ChatGPT write their stuff, and in practical terms data-driven properties are already that, just executed by human writers and executives.

As a writer, if you're looking to go really commercial your job is not to give people the content that's good for them, or even that they want, but to give them what they will react to and what they will expect.

YOU are the demographic driving this trend, if it's a trend. You're talking about it, because it's the bogeyman that animates you, and that's how you form society in its image, and Netflix is echoing the society it sees and feeding that content back to society.

The women I know seem to be more aware of this 'bad boy hot guy' stuff than I will ever be. It's always a surprise hearing about Yellowstone or whatever, and hearing about some new ultimate Chad archetype whose name means nothing to me.

The thing is, they act about it like it's junk food media, which it is. I don't know anybody who adopts this stuff as their guide to life… though Critical Theory does suggest that if you're immersed in this sort of thing, then it will have an influence.
