I think you are leaving out the big question of Why someone has that preference. Both men and women are asked that.

If a white woman said she prefers white guys because she wants her kids to look like her, most people would call that fine. If she said she wanted a white partner because she wants to secure a future for the white race, she would be called a racist.

I have posts where I express 0 insecurity filled with angry women and even some men calling me insecure. They use far too many assumptions which leads me to believe they’re projecting.

1 of them was when I said tall women take their height for granted. I explained how I’ve met a lot of tall women saying they can’t get dates but then there’s me, a short man, who can get dates just fine when the dating pool is probably even smaller for me than it is for them. I also explained how tall women I’ve seen are taken more seriously at work than short ones. They were furious.

Then they said how I shouldn’t be talking because apparently I “probably never date a taller girl myself” and then I said I actually prefer them and that even though a lot of my guy friends prefer them short I’ve never met anyone who wouldn’t date a tall girl. This made them go on these rants about how I’m apparently “insecure” that no one wants to date me because I only want them tall when not only do I get dates just fine, but also I don’t even only date tall women, in fact most of the girls I’ve crushed on have been shorter than me even at my height of 5’5”.

Something I realized is that, in my opinion, women go through more day to day hardships and minor consequences, but men face more double standards and much worse larger consequences (for example prison sentencing). I would choose to be a man over a woman 10 out 10 times, however, being a man doesn’t come without its setbacks. In terms of this specific double standard, the best thing you can do is to just not state what your preferences are. It may make you angry that there’s a double standard, but unless you’re in a place with people willing to listen and not call you a misogynist, just keep your preferences to yourself, unless the argument is worth having in your opinion. There are many double standards when it comes to women & men in the dating sphere. The problem is that women have insecure men in their corner backing them up. I would never date an Onlyfans worker, it’s a personal preference as I wouldn’t want my entire friendship group and her friendship group being able to see her do crude & humiliating acts for £7.99 a month. However when I say that I’m labelled misogynistic, controlling and toxic. This wouldn’t be the case if it wasn’t for weak insecure men echoing the abuse I get, they are as idiotic as “boy-friends” who think they stick around long enough, validate the women long enough she’ll eventually sleep with them.

Another double standard is Flirting & rejection! Women cannot flirt, 90% of the time women who try to talk to me in a flirting way is quite often extremely sexually, boring or talking about something she likes which I don’t care. If a man was to do this he’d get ridiculed and called perv, creep or loser. And my god if you ever reject a woman, the anger and hatred you experience is actually quite funny. Yet a man has a strong aggressive response to being rejected he’s toxic and a danger.

The world is full of shitty experiences and isn’t always fair. But the double standards that are in the world of dating infuriate me so much!

Saying something is based in insecurity or whatever is not saying that you can't have that preference. You say it's acceptable for women, but this sub says otherwise when everyone is calling it hypergamy, unreasonable, entitled, or whatever. Shame shit different gender. Your standards only affect you and keep you single if they're unreasonable.

Nobody cares about anyone’s preferences because nobody will know until you publicly express them. And that’s the issue. People get pushback when they denigrate people who do not live up to their asserted standards. In online spaces - it’s usually men doing this.

While one can hold any preference for any reason, that doesn't change the fact that some reasons may be one rooted in societal issues.

I think a basic, evolved male preference for less promiscuous women could probably be acknowledged. It isn't the strongest of evolved instincts, and its strength varies among given men. However, the real question then becomes whether to lean into it or not.

This is an increasingly sexualized culture in many ways, where monogamous norms are breaking down. Sexual variety is increasingly presented as a fulfilling life goal for both genders. Everyone is teased with sex 24/7 through digital media.

So a double-standard on promiscuity, even one based in evolved instinct or legitimate gender differences, is a problem. It runs against the grain of the current culture. You cannot increasingly be titillating both men and women's most base sexuality, but then tell one gender that they have to pay a much bigger price than the other for giving into this now ubiquitous temptation.

It's like we all live in a candy store, but you are telling women that TOO MUCH sugar is bad for them, whatever TOO MUCH is, while they get to watch men gorge themselves on the candy without a second thought. It's naturally going to be infuriating to women.

Guys who actually care about a womens body count are either incredibly insecure or haven’t had the chance themselves to sleep with a lot of people. I’m a guy with a very high count and I’ve never given the slightest thought about what my partners is. I simply don’t care and it would be incredibly hypocritical of me if I did. What someone did with their sex life before we dated is their business. I’ve never even asked a woman what their number is because it doesn’t mean anything to me. I’ve always thought guys who ask about that are just incredibly insecure and worry that they won’t live up to the quality of sex their partner has had in the past.

Eh. I think it’s more of a reaction to the why.

That said, I half agree that my general feeling is that women generally don’t take kindly to men expressing our preferences.

There’s a big difference between “I want to only date a virgin or low n count woman because I’m a virgin/I want someone who views sex as sacred/etc” and “I want to only date a virgin or low n count woman because I don’t want her to have experienced better sex than I can offer/those women are younger and have more malleable personalities/etc”

It’s the subtext that matters.

By the same token, I think the most common complaint voiced is that women filter on height, income, ethnicity, or some other variable that isn’t readily modifiable.

And I think it’s fine for them to have whatever standards they want. I also think that many women with strict requirements will eventually learn that the few men who might meet those requirements don’t actually view them as worthy of more than a casual fling. Certainly some of them will find that man, and more power to them. But I don’t see the problem in letting the failures learn that for themselves.
