I think most whiners actually whine about the fact that being nice doesn't help, and that *attractive* assholes get the girls.

The truth is just that attractive guys get* the girls, whether they're a bit assholish or not - and I see no reason to whine about it, as people like attractive people, as they probably should

A PPDer in another OP replied the above. I agree with them.

  • The guy who is behaviorally masculine is more likely to get the gal.
  • The guy who has good looks is more likely to get the gal.
  • The guy who is behaviorally masculine and has good looks is more likely than all of the other guys to get the gal.

It is not about him being an "asshole." The are PLENTY of behaviorally un-masculine and behaviorally unattractive men who are absolute assholes who ARE NOT getting the gals. So clearly it's "being an asshole" that's winning the women over.

All else equal, when it comes to the average straight woman being carnally attracted to (lusting for) a man it is probably ranked as follows:

  1. "Behaviorally masculine decently good looking guy of good character" is most women's top choice! He's usually wife'd up immediately tbh. Think of the guys in your communities or networks who are most like JFK Jr. Or the Hemsworth brothers. Or Chris Long. Or Denzel Washington. Or Ryan Gosling.:max_bytes(150000):strip_icc()/040416-celebs-who-met-on-set-9b-1c7d08974bde496dac364769689eacbb.jpg) Heck, or Joe Biden.
  2. For the woman whose goal is to feel lusty über alles, she will settle (at least for a short spell) for the "behaviorally masculine decently good looking guy of questionable/poor character" if the one of good character is no where to be found. And sure, sometimes there are women of questionable/poor character herself, so she might prefer the questionable/poor character guy. I just watched "Griselda" on Netflix, so Griselda Blanco comes to mind as this type of woman. Her and her man liked to kill and bully others together -- precious!

TLDR: It's that the alleged "asshole" is presenting as bold, assured, sociable, playful, outgoing, non-neurotic, and uninhibited. A.k.a. he is presenting as attractively masculine. It's not that he's "mean" or a "bully" or "disrespectful unprovoked to people." It's that he's the bolded things. And many men when trying to be the bolded, over-index on being a jerk because it's the only way they know how to present as bold, assured, sociable, playful, outgoing, non-neurotic, and uninhibited. They don't know how to be Ryan Gosling. Or Denzel.
