I think people should stop playing the blame game and just understood where they got their influences. I love South Park and Grand Theft Auto, but I still definitely fell victim to believing that “oh as girls get older my character will shine through” or some bs.

Now I’ve accepted the fact that it’s extremely difficult to get a good sense of someone’s character right away and your best bet is too boost your value as a man. It sucks that the being nice isn’t enough. I wish it was different, that I could just let a girl I know that I like her and be rewarded for giving a shit early on. Sadly it’s not that simple.

However, instead of hating on women, or myself for not having the right approach, I think my best bet is to just say “Ok I know better now”. The past is in the past. Stop worrying about society, and just worry about being the best version of yourself that you can be.

Disney? In the little mermaid Ariel is obsessed with Eric because he’s hot. Eric is the much less shallow one. He wants the woman who saved his life and had a beautiful voice. Lots of the princess stories just involved her liking a prince she knows nothing about but he’s hot. The only Disney movie I can think of that is different is beauty and the beast and she hates him and then learns to care about him and is rewarded with him turning out to be hot.

If you’ve lived under very sheltered parents, it’s not hard to see this type of outcome being plausible in men. I grew up very sheltered. My dad was a real ‘Ned Flanders’ type guy. Kind and generous on the outside but very much a naive simp when it came to women. His only concept of “what women wanted” from a man was kindness, purity, and godliness. He didn’t care much for talking about any type of sex and relationships that happened outside the bounds of his brand of evangelical Christianity he wanted to impose on his children, because that was “worldly”. Restrictions on the type of music, TV, and movies we could watch were pretty stringent.

I guess I was fortunate insofar as our family couldn’t afford private school and my mom had a terminal illness that made homeschooling difficult. I started to unlearn a lot of that programming as soon as I entered public high school, but still missed out on a lot of opportunities. I still couldn’t go to school dances (despite having girls that hinted at wanting me to ask them), curfews, him needing to call and know the parents pretty well before I could sleep over at a friend’s house. That really sucked and definitely stunted my social development as a teenager. It’s been over a decade since high school so I think I’m fine now, but parents should always be the first place you look for feelings of betrayal and being lied to. They can massively kneecap a child’s social and emotional development that takes years to unpack.

You listed a bunch of TV shows that support your argument which is fine, but this is a cherry picked list. There are many examples of TV shows that support the opposing view. Also, your argument seems to be entirely based on TV yet the question is posed against society and TV is not necessarily society. It's entirely possible for a child to not watch TV and come out with very positive views of women, or negative views of women. TV may help reinforce those views, but at the end of the day it isn't determined solely by TV.

I can't speak for anyone else, but for me it was experiences and people who lied to me. All the women and girls I interacted with reinforced the notion that nice guys were preferred and bad boys were deceptive mistakes that just happened. You do have a point though in that men aren't entirely guilt free of this because they then think that since women are complaining about the bad boys that they don't like them or will start going after nice guys. This is a false assumption many guys make. However, women never go on to correct this assumption either and it becomes a lie of omission.

I don't recall ever hearing women being honest about what they actually want in a man, but unlike a lot of RP people I don't think women are doing this on purpose to deceive men. They want to sound like good people, and in the current culture admitting that being a good man has no bearing on attractiveness to women has really bad optics. In most cases, I don't think women actually want to admit what they really find attractive because then that makes it uncomfortable to accept the truth and people in general just do what's easiest and will preserve their ego.

Eh. Disney produces fairy tales. Fairy tales are just stories. They're not super realistic.

Anyway, wanting a hot partner is not just a women thing. Ugly girls may as well not exist to many men. Now, what constitutes as handsome or beautiful depends on the individual. I don't know about you, but my social circle is almost entirely made up of nerds and artsy types. No bad boys (I go out of my way to avoid toxicity, because life is way too short for that kind of drama), and no athletic types. I mean, my brothers played football when they were still in school, but that was years ago. Even back then, they were giant nerds who spent probably way too much time on video games...not that I can talk, lol.

Anyway, the point is that very few of my friends and family members are single at the moment. Most are married. Generally, like attracts like, at least in my experience. The nerds are married to nerds, the artsy types are married to artsy types, etc. It's not a hard and fast rule, but I rarely see a relationship with two dynamically different people that works out in the long run. Unless my social circle is particularly weird and out of the norm, it's pretty obvious to me that there are plenty of women who are into quiet nerds, since they themselves are quiet nerds.

I think a lot of people cling to blaming anyone but themselves for their circumstances. When I was a little kid I remember watching Disney movies and my dad telling me I’d marry a prince when I grew up. I have known most of my life that was him saying he loved me and not a literal thing that will happen. I definitely didn’t and don’t hold it against him.

The truth is that our results are a direct reflection of our efforts. While I’d love to eat donuts and McDonald’s every day, doing so would greatly reduce my choice of possible mates. Going to the gym and taking ozempic will increase my chances. A pixie cut might be easy and quick to do daily, but long, volumied, curled hair will also alter my male options, even though it is way more time and effort. Complaining won’t change this. At some point everyone must acknowledge that even if what you were taught isn’t your fault, it is your responsibility to fix it and get the outcome you desire.

Not just Disney... parents, friends, women, movies, commercials. There's not just one responsible..

But the point is to wake up and look for answers.

This is like an atheist telling people who recently became atheists "why did you let your parents, family, friends, all the movies you watched and listened to together influence you into believing in god?". People recoil from child indoctrination and grooming for a reason, children are impressionable, and naturally trust people. Cigarette companies target minors for the very same reason as well. How can you not understand how vulnerable children are to being influenced... do you forget what it was like being a child? Do you not know children in your family? Who else are you supposed to trust and learn from?

People complain about Disney because they make films *for children*.

Also, believe it or not, women are diverse, and with limited experience, you can't easily see trends yet. There are many real women out there with shy nerds. I have met some of them too. This doesn't obviate that pushing yourself out of your comfort zone, getting into the gym, etc will help significantly.

It is *TikTok* women who are shockingly open about what *they* want. If you've ever talked to typical women in person, you would know that it is not nearly so straightforward. A classic example of this is how so many men listen to women say that they want him to open up and be vulnerable, and then get upset and sometimes even lose interest afterwards. *Some* women are genuine about this, but so many don't actually mean it, and how do you tell the difference?

Content creators like Alexander Grace and hoe_math wouldn't have so many videos analyzing what women do and say if it was so trivial as you act. Don't be like Captain Hindsight in south park.

Because they've been socially conditioned to like men like this from popular media for decades now? The media does play a huge part. This is undeniable.

Women are being totally honest about their preferences. They don't hide them or lie about them at all. It's absolutely out there for us to see.

I agree with this and I never bought the narrative that men were collectively lied to. I think men who believed that women don’t care at all about shallow things like looks and money were just lying to themselves.

Coming here as attractive enough successful nerd awkward social surfer dude. What I projected I got. Boys never learning how to interact with humans of the opposite sex does not justify blanket generalizations described here.
