On the one hand, this sounds nice, and it's hard to disagree with it on principle. On the other hand, generally speaking it isn't guys who have a problem with high income women... it's women who have a problem with guys who don't make more than they do.

It's a common trope. You see it even on very feminist/egalitarian publications, where sometimes career women lament that they just aren't that attracted to house husbands, or men who just make less than they do.

One Red Pill point is likely true: hypergamy exists. Women generally want to marry up, at least in terms of income, social position, etc.

Men generally don't care naturally. Meaning they will happily go out with a woman or have sex with a woman regardless of her finances. But deep down, men know that they'll tend to have better luck if they have the bigger income and higher status situation, and that will subtly inform their dating choices - especially as they get older and more experienced, and see how things really work.

The reality is most men are looking for women in the same socioeconomic status as them. In most relationships men and women provide fair amounts to bills based on income. Usually the women is more likely to partially sacrifice her career for children.

I don’t look for women with a career because as it stands, filtering out fat women and single mothers already narrows down my dating pool enough that I’m not overwhelmed with matches. Why add a requirement unless I’m overwhelmed with matches?

To your other points, I earn a healthy enough salary that most incomes wouldn’t have a material impact to me. Like you, I suspect the same cannot be said of most men on ppd. But I think it is important that people know that men of means don’t care about educational or financial achievement in our partners as much as we care that they can live within their means. I could be a total outlier in that assessment, but I don’t think I am.

I never cared. I dated a PharmD, plenty of corporate ladder climbers and a few blue collar girls. I happened to marry my wife because she had the same family goals as me.

I'm STEM and have never dated a woman who made more than me. The PharmD was the one who made close to me (although likely not now) but she had so much invested in her career we started to have disagreements about family, namely she was waffling on kids. The income was nice, but I wanted kids.

Reality was I broke up with all the blue collar girls. We just didn't have the same goals. By time my wife and I had kids we were able for her to stay at home. She went back to school and got an advanced degree after they were all old enough to be less supervised.

I think there's a balance. You tend to surround yourself with people who have the same values as you. If you went to college, you tend to stick to college educated, etc.

Maybe social media has tainted a lot of ppl but most ppl in my life want their partners to have goals and a career. The “boss girls” you see on tiktok are a very small minority. Most females with careers are just like the men and go to their 9-5 and have a life outside of work. I guess some guys want a girl whos entire world revolves around them and to each their own but I’d rather be with someone that has their own shit and we can both individually still have our own life. It might also be younger guys that are saying this that havent had a taste of reality yet. Easier to enjoy luxuries in life when you got 2 incomes and with remote jobs becoming more popular, the option to stay home with future kids makes more sense imo.

All things being equal I 100% would prefer a woman with a career or at the very least solid career prospects. Wanting some sort of housewife strikes me as internet LARP or something deeply religious / old fashioned.

Having said that, I have no idea where to even find women with good careers. My own workplace is so overwhelmingly male. The handful of women who are not old/married must have unlimited options. Not to mention; don't shit where you eat.

Then in the apps most of the women work as servers at PF Chang's or something (nothing wrong with that for the record).

Also, a career / intelligence are great. But that comes after not being overweight and a good attitude.

I think the reason is that women with careers typically are gonna want to plan for retirement more so than men. Career oriented goals don't mean much when the brunt of society is constantly shoving the pressure to get kids, take care of em and ect.

This means that a woman who is cis, works and wants kids eventually will have high standards and these guys don't want to live up to those standards.

This problem can probably be mitigated if men are encouraged to also be caretakers and household cleaners while working women should be encouraged to find men with talents in those regards.

Ideally both sexes will want partners who can be both worker and caretaker but I doubt most people can juggle too many skill sets at a time without all that pressure getting to them.

I think it has to do with risk mitigation. Career oriented women tend to be more masculine, narcissistic, have boss babe-isms, and look to compete within the relationship. All are net negatives.

Additionally, they tend to believe that going all in on a career does not take away anything from their ability to devote time to family, which just mathematically isn’t true or possible.

My LTR makes almost as much as me and could end up earning more in the future long term (I will still have a sizeable income) however she is very family first oriented and cares less about the career she’s in than raising kids. We talked about this early on when becoming exclusive.

For what it’s worth, it’s not some end all, be all. The trajectory women are going means at some point it may be the norm for women to out earn men. So, you need to adjust accordingly. Be an attractive dude other women want, be in great shape, lay it down every time like it’s the last time you’ll ever hit it, have solid frame. Nothing is unmitigateable (not sure if that’s a word but going with it).

Most men do look for a woman with a career. Its pretty rare for a guy to be okay with a woman not working or working low wage jobs, its seen as nonLTR material now. My current social circle of men would never consider marrying a woman like that. The only exception is with small kids and thats simply due to childcare costs and their intense needs up until kindergarten, then its back to work. Its not just because you need 2 incomes now anyways due to the economy, women who work low wage jobs are seen as lazy.

Gone are the days when men didnt care about a woman's income, they absolutely do care now. Anyone who says this isnt so lives in LaLaLand. I absolutely do not believe you and you are stupid. My extremely conservative hometown has this view too btw. Every couple in my hometown where the woman didnt go back to work immediately after their children entered school were seen as lazy.

Heck, I work in a field where I can pay for myself and live by myself. I would never have a life of luxury though but I could still do things. When I was single and dating, even some men found that a turnoff. They wanted me to be higher earning than I needed to be so I could live more lavishly.

I actually feel like lots of men don't like women without careers. I think a lot of regular guys want women with careers because if they don't have one they can't pay for anything and that falls onto the guy to pay for stuff when he doesn't have money either. I could go to college if I wanted to do so but there is nothing I want to go to school for and I would have to take out loans and be in debt. Idk I debate about going because that's where my peers are in life right now but I really don't want a career.

So why not hold women to higher financial standards, or at least the same standards than men. Start choosing your partners based on how they can provide for themselves and their future children. It would balance things out.

Do women want this? Id say yes. Most of the women I’ve dated have degrees and are work, i mean literally like most of them (i live in Houston if you’re wondering), so women are already pursuing degrees regardless of wether men want or not (as it should be). Why not embrace it instead of resist it, it will make dating more equal.

Sorry but I think the entire premise of your post is wrong. The majority of men are not avoiding women pursuing degrees or working corporate jobs, any subset of RP men that do are statistically insignificant, there's nothing your proposing that will have any notable impact on the dating market.

my guess is a lot of the guys specifically complaining about this primarily come from two pieces of mind:

1) they hold their identities entirely on the fact that they’re masculine providers. If a woman does the same thing, they’re nothing - it also directly challenged their view on their own masculinity

2) they themselves believe so strongly in things like hypergamy, monkey branching, etc - and to them working women = more men around, more opportunity to cheat, and more opportunity to leave - in other words, insecurity

Now, speaking for myself, i’m indifferent on whether she does or doesn’t have a career - although I could see a career being a potential conflict of interest as I intend to move to a much smaller town as I get older (and by older i mean within the next 10-12 years, so not that much older), so if she’s tied with her career that might hurt long term plans ergo, make us incompatible in the long run (going far away from the city is kind of a deal breaker for me)

I have high standards when it comes to women I get into long term relationships with the women I go for typically have bachelors / masters degrees, speak multiple languages, are cultured and well traveled, have good careers as well as investments of their own.

Obviously none of those things are a prerequisite for me to date a woman but somehow that’s usually how it works out, the women I attract have those types of profile and those are the women I’m into.

It’s just my personal taste but I’m interested in women who also like to travel and discover the world, as opposed to seeking the “white picket fence, 9 to 5” lifestyle, and I’m not interested in women who’s some ambition is to pop out some kids and have a typical “average” type of life and so far it’s really worked out for me.

The women I date have money and investments of their own, they enjoy paying for dates, buying me gifts, spontaneous trips and other adventures, and I enjoy knowing that the women I date are with me because they’re actually attracted to me, not because they’re interested in money or a lifestyle I can provide.

There are definitely a lot of men out there who look for women who have careers/ambition, often men who have that and want that thing in common with their partner. It's an attractive trait to both sexes, but many men are taught that the guy makes the money so some of them feel intimidated or inadequate when they see a woman make as much as or more than them.

We want couples to be a team, and if she is independent then it is more likely I will be an accessory, not a team player.
Most women with career lost their youth studying and working. Nothing wrong with that, but men prefer younger women.
Most men will not touch that money they produce anyway. It makes no economic difference for men to prefer "educated" women.

I do love smart women to have an intelligent conversation, but truth is that that is not the main thing men want. Men just want company, loving partner and sex, then maybe a family. A woman don't need to be educated or intelligent for that, but that is also a valuable trait.

Most people are going to date within at the very least their environment, but generally speaking men who are financially secure don't care as much about a woman's career, it's just not near the top of our priority list and there's no reason that men should try and force themselves to care about something they don't, that's weird. Not to mention if a woman has a high earning career she generally speaking will want a man that's equal or above, the guy who is the had surgeon at the hospital generally wouldn't have a problem dating or marrying one of the nurses at hospital, more than likely not going to be the same way if you flip the genders.

If a woman has a career, that's a plus, but it's not really one of the core things that we look for in a woman.

You gotta remember, the burden of provision is still on men's shoulders, so if I have to provide, then I don't care a lot how much a woman earns. For that same reason I don't care how much a woman can bench press, or if she knows karate or any other form of self defense, because the burden of protection is on me.

Also, if she is nonchalant about her money or accolades, if she isn't trying to shove her achievements down my throat then that's cool.

Women with higher incomes come with higher debt and expenses. You are more likely to find a man making six figures living out of a van than a woman. She wants a more expensive house, expensive hobbies, and expensive everything.

More importantly, real careers mean moving. Being together means moving at the same time to the same city. Someone is going to be left behind in some way. Someone's career must take precedence. And because women are more likely to dump you for not growing with them, the career that must take precedence is the man's. This will be a large source of contention every time it happens.

Incredibly pointless question: a straw man that is designed to divert attention by going on and on about meaningless scenerios.

Men have to be the primary, the alpha in any relationship. Its natural. Thats because men are hardwired to be the providers, the bread earners, decision makers and rescuers (in case of any trouble). They don't want an equal (except some simpus maximus men) but want someone who will be supportive and submit.

In order to do all that, they must be in a superior position I.e. a position of authority.

The financial independence of a career and the probability of sexual encounters of the woman due to career opportunities negate the normal real world relationship dynamics. Recently been to 3 well reputed University campuses in rabidly blue states. Spoke to lots of students including men. Most men are Andrew Tate fans. Looks like the message is getting delivered and men are taking control of their lives.

Dating women that work full time high paying gigs is generally genuinely not a good time. Dating anyone whose career is their identity isn’t very fun. But I feel like women treat jobs as such more often than men. Work frequently doesn’t stay at work. I don’t date men so I can’t speak on that. But I also don’t imagine, well I know, women generally prefer men that earn more. So it’s not super relevant

you're assuming men want to basically date woman who has the traits of a man.

also, women are not built to take care of a male spouse long term. Unless it's some rare situation where the man had some kind of gruesome accident or a illness or something. But women in general are not going to be providers for a man for long term. THAT debate will come up. Men are expected to provide for the WHOLE family including the woman. It's built into us. So asking why men aren't seeking female-providers is kind of pointless.

I think there are a few more dimensions than just take-home pay. I’m a part-owner of my family’s business, so there are not many men out there who would out-earn me AND be willing to date me. I knew that up front, so my standard of comparison is if they are in a profession that would be common among my circle of friends and family. As far as metrics go, it is better if there is a socioeconomic fit than if they make more money.

Most men complaining on the internet don't have the leverage to be selective, and there's not much incentive to chase career women when they tend to have higher standards than broke women and still expect you to pay your fair share anyway.

Thank you for the interesting read everyone. I suspect that family life might be different in Canada. I personally don’t know any couples where one person can stay at home. Things are to expensive here. Most of my female friends work but are not in some sort of hyper masculine careers or “boss women”. They are teachers, nurses, daycare workers, vet techs for example, so they have to be empathetic in their careers. I’ve been married for 13 years (I’m 34 and my husband is 36). We both have careers and an education. We got together as poor students so money, career and status wasn’t a thing back then. Throughout the years we have helped each other out in whatever way we could. He paid the bills when I went back to grad school and likewise i did the same when he retrained. We didn’t keep score.

I don’t think we are anything special. Both just kind of nerdy and neurodivergent. If we can find that balance, so can you.

In general, because they have way higher standards, like ridiculously high standards.

Like i'm sorry I'm not in a position which is equivalent or high than hers, or because I just make 99.999 and not 100k , or because I'm 5'11.99" and not 6ft.

Over the top aside, I with career women tend to have a established life style and (even if it's the last thing they do) refuse the idea, notion, and actuality of reducing their life style for someone else.

The thought is always "what can he bring to my life" and never "what can we bring to each other's life".

From personal experience, the room goes ice cold and the whole dynamic of the evening changes when a career (high income) woman picks up the dinner tab, even just once in awhile. Unless you are Chad / Tyrone, she wants a guy that makes more than her.
