I worked with this guy, and became good friends with him. He was my ‘work husband’. We sat beside each other for three years. Not an ex but I was Facebook friends with a guy I went to middle school with.

We’d share the occasional silly meme and then he escalated to sending me a video of a deer being repeatedly shot with a man yelling at the deer in anger. (The deer was not shot in self defense) He thought the video was funny and he said that was his sense of humor. A guy I was dating told me he was texting his ex and when his ex didn't reply for a day or two he got so worried that he decided to hop on a bus (2h bus drive) to the city where his ex lives and walked 20km (4h walk?) to his ex's house just to see that "she's alright."

The creepiest part was that he'd let himself inside her house and just waited in her kitchen until she got back from where ever she was.

He’s since moved away after proposing to me (the ring is kept safe in case he ever does show up) and telling me “when I come back for you I expect you to be ready”, and he still “has eyes on me”, but I was informed he bought his way out of that role after many years of service, cost him quite a lot.

I did absolutely adore this man before I knew this about him and afterwards, still struggle with it because I never in a million years could picture him in that role based on his behavior with me. He really did live two separate lives.
