I feel that the best response is to take your own advocacy to Facebook, to offer an alternative viewpoint... be it in one of these groups, or a group of your own making.

I see a lot of outrage posted here. Let me take a moment to interject some actual facts. This will surely get me downvoted to oblivion, but someone has to balance all the indignant condemnation on this thread.

This is a red herring if ever I saw one. Feminists love to play the "accomplishments" card: it gives them a soapbox to stand on when they cry "Patriarchy". They simply point out how males dominate in so many career disciplines.

Technology careers is an excellent example: most senior software gurus are men; especially the ones making $200K/year and up. That includes the architects who design new technologies. Feminists cry "Patriarchy" and demand more special privileges and opportunities for women.

Yet let's look at the actual facts; yes, those ugly realities that underlie the "roadblock" that womyn face. In high school, young women voluntarily decline to take the advanced math courses that provide the fundamental foundation bits needed for a high-paying career in software engineering. Young men make up the majority of students in those classes. Not because of some sinster plot by the "Patriarchy" at all, but simply because young womyn do not want to take those classes. In colleges and universities across the country, professors and administrations struggle to find womyn willing to enroll in STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics) curriculum courses. Here is some source reading on this

This is all pretty well documented and acknowledged. There are many, many men in academia here who are working extra hours to raise the number of womyns enrolled in STEM areas. Yet still the myth of a patriarchal system denying women equal opportunities in the STEM fields rolls merrily along. In spite of all the special programs and opportunities that exist exclusively for women in this area.

This is discrimination against men in a most heinous form. Monies, funding and opportunities are being diverted away from male students who are struggling to get through school, only to be routed to womyns - the majority of whom who don't want them in the first place!

Aside from the sheer discrimination involved, who knows what impact these efforts will have on the future scientific advancement of the human race? Need it be pointed out that we are on the verge of having our planet destroyed by the current technologies used to generate the energy our planet needs?

History is full of scientific breakthroughs by geniuses who came from poor backgrounds and had to struggle greatly to finish their education. All of these geniuses share one common trait: a burning desire to work in their chosen field of science. And now we are institutionalizing a system that is guaranteed to eliminate the struggling males - so that womyns who are undecided about whether they want to work in science can have more opportunities.

Were the authors of the comment in the link by OP shrill and over the line? Indeed. But were they completely wrong? Sadly, no. The essence of their assertion, that women do not contribute to the material development and continued existence of the human race as men do, is fundamentally accurate.

The Men's Rights issue at hand is this: Men are being discriminated against by diverting funding and opportunities - opportunities most women do not even want - to satisfy a non-existent "need" to get women more involved in STEM careers. Plus the "Patriarchy" card that says womyns are denied careers in STEM fields gets to be played when women's-only special interest groups want something. Women are declining to get an education in STEM fields all on their own. By choice, free will, and desire. Yet a few shrill and strident feminist harpies are pressuring the entire academic system of the country to do something about the "problem" - a problem manufactured out of whole cloth by the feminists. Let's not play into their hands with knee-jerk reactions to outrageous posts on Facebook. Let's keep our eye on preventing discrimination against male students.

I am a male and I am a Mechanical Engineer, and there are women in my major as an undergrad and again in graduate school that are every bit as competent as the male students.

But the fact of the matter is that the vast majority of construction workers, architects and engineers are men. It's like saying that the vast majority of teachers are women, which is undeniably true. And there is nothing sexiest about pointing that out.

I guess the only thing that's upsetting me about it is the way, female ranting is pathologised while male ranting is criminalised. If a woman writes she hates men, she must have a record of bad experiences with men and thus her bitterness and anger can be excused. If a man writes he hates women, he's an asshole. I'm here because I want to talk about fatherhood, custody and the question why we can force someone to pay for an unwanted child, the place in the life boat, the question why men have been made disposable in our society for centuries, how 1 in 6 boys is sexually abused while there is next to no shelter for men/ boys in my country, why there is a abuse helpline that is female exclusive and no helpline at all for male victims of violence, why so many of my male friends think it's perfectly okay that former/current girlfriends freak out and hit them or throw things at them, why domestic violence is still being treated like there were exclusively female victims although we know that statistics proof it wrong, why society treats women like they had intrinsic value and may expect love and protection while boys and men have to struggle, work and sacrifice themselves in order to be worth of love (not protection though, they can go protect themselves), why I can read 30-year old books by Warren Farrell and feel like nothing has changed, and why my friends keep telling me that the only reason I can say all these things and speak up about them is because I am a woman....Goodness I could go on forever.

We need Men's rights movements, we need activism, so please if you want to hate and express your frustration or sexist views, do so (!)but do so as an individual. We need to be heard and it's extremely hard to be taken seriously if people associate the MRA's with women-hating trolls.

The problem is the lack of a central unifying group which can define what is and is not MR's and focus energy on high visibility goals that are easy to achieve and are not particularly controversial.

For instance, a central outlook would be to focus on particular male health issues that can be addressed, and could be a team up with various counterpart feminist groups.

The big thing is to keep the elements that make MR's look nutty on the back burner and make deliberate choices on when and where to fight battles. The other thing is to keep the vitriol down and not act like this is a gender battle.

Certain groups or interests have a bad name. The male supremacy groups, the divorced dads with justified anger at their custody, and the intactivists should not be allowed to define the movement if you want progress.

The problem is the Men's Rights movement is mostly seen as a collection of men who think women suck, the system favors women, or they got mutilated as a child. And it makes the entire concept seem silly.

I fully understand the point, and I agree with the Red Pill. It's the men's sexual liberation movement. Feminism has allowed women to rise to sexual liberation by shaming men's sexual freedom. As a result, and most MRA's will agree with me - we are seen as dirty predators who rape all that we see.

The demonization of "Blue Pillers." You know what? I have a friend who will never be a red piller. He has crippling social anxiety that no doctor has been able to help him with, and no amount of drugs will cure. He is brave, and tries to get with women, but he can't get out of his own head. He'll probably kill himself, and despite a very patient network of friends looking to help him, he'll never spit up the blue pill. You know what? There are people like that. First of all the poster never goes on to define what the hell they mean by a "male supremacist", it's just left there as a vague slander that is supposed to repel any respectable person from the slandered thing. Frankly that smells of bullshit to me. What is supremacism? Are we talking about a descriptive or a prescriptive thing, first of all?

Is it "male supremacism" to observe that males have more upper body strength? Is it male supremacism to observe that most scientific discoveries have been made my males? This is what I mean by "descriptive" supremacism. I think any reasonable person would agree that a descriptive claim cannot inherently be supremacist without some kind of value judgment. Now let's take a look at the image linked: where is the supremacism, the evil hatred against women, etc, expressed? It's just a statement about men building things, women not building things, and people knowing that men build things. This claim can be true, kind of true, mostly false, or wholly false, or somewhere in between. But surely any reasonable person reading that will have to admit there's not a hint of hatred against women anywhere in that? Where did it say that women are mindless idiots incapable of building things? It was purely a descriptive claim about reality, that men are builders. True or false, it never said whether this is a good or bad thing.

Secondly, let's say somebody is a "male supremacist", whatever that means. Does that mean they cannot also be in favor of men's rights? An MRA is a men's rights activist. However if he said "most" instead of "everything" there is merit to that , people can differing opinions on it but it is legit to say "most" in that context. If women wanted to build stuff, they could have formed their own company. I don't recall reading about any female construction company's bidding to work on buildings in new york in the 1920s.

Even today most women don't want to go in to STEM fields because there are difficult. They the first year classes and opt out. It's hard work and if they wanted to build stuff they could have done so, they choose not to. Some women do put in the time but not many.

It all boils down to choice.

I would also say all of you who deny rape in all, but the most obvious or brutal of cases. Reasonable doubt is ideal, but many of the posts automatically assume the girl is lying when there is a lack of evidence. Bringing up rape is not going to be a winning issue for you guys EVER.

Many also upvote rare cases where the woman was found to lie about being raped. How is this supporting your larger overall movement? Everyone knows that people do make up cases of rape sometimes (rarely) .

You don't see any other group that is respected circle jerk in the way you guys do about serious issues. You're also not gaining any new supporters through them. Those continually appearing posts also cause a cognitive bias that makes you extremely cynical about any rape case. Just because all of the rape cases posted on this sub have been shown to be false doesn't mean all cases are.

Also please stop saying "real rape". It makes you look awful.

This has nothing to do with MRA. In particular the word 'right'. This is plain and simple misogyny. It's disguised as a positive anecdote of men's accomplishments, but gives an implicit void of women's accomplishments. It's entirely neglectful of history and that women hasn't really been near equal until recent times.

How about we put together a different version of this where we celebrate the contributions of both women and men? Yes, men may have a great ability to build and create the physical part of civilization. We know that because it is all around us and we see daily who is doing that part. Women built the human race because they have the sole ability to create in that manner. Everyday they show us how they keep us growing and expanding in number. Men would have no need to build civilization without the people women bring into the world. Women could bring people into the world, but it would be a difficult struggle to survive without the abilities of men to use our resources and provide for the whole of the population. It seems like we, on both sides of the sexes, spin our wheels trying to one-up each other when in reality we accomplish similar things but in different ways.

I personally think it's silly to ignore/distance ourselves from these things just because it makes one side or the other look bad. The reality is it makes both sides look tremendously good when you combine the talents of both men and women. Let's try that out and see if we can get a much more positive message flowing to seal the breach.

To the "Men's Rights Initiative": by all means, please go ahead and say things like this if you believe them to be true, but do it under the banner of male supremacism, not under the banner of men's rights. They are not the same thing. Admit the nature of your beliefs and let them be judged by their own merits: stop riding on the coattails of the MRM just because its message of equality and compassion for both sexes is gaining traction.
