Passport bros are just guys that want to experience dating as a rich guy, so they go to a country where their western paycheck makes them rich. It's not inherently any more exploitative than a rich guy dating and buying things for women in his home country.

My issue with many passport bros is that they don't see it that way. They will trash western women and make it sound like the gold diggers they date in other countries are so much more feminine and moral, or live degenerate lives that are centered around banging as many whores as possible.

women, as a collective, want to keep the 'price' of female companionship and sex as high as possible because it's in their own best self-interest. it's one of the only domains where women have power over men on a macro level after all and has been quite important historically when women relied on men for survival.

that's why they cheer on other women who talk about their high standards while demonizing men for the same thing (despite it being way more common for women to tell people who never asked about their dating requirements). it's also why they shame 'pickmes' and sometimes even women who are just in happy reciprocal relationships ('AND WHAT DOES HE DO FOR YOU SIS?' type of rhetoric). i also think that at least part of the reason why they want to stigmatize prostitution and keep it illegal is tied to it too (even if only subconsciously) or why they use insults like virgin towards men and shame guys who are actually single by choice as 'peter pans' while cheering on women who say they're single by choice but are actually coping.

of course it's not all women who do this but it's not exactly uncommon. even if most of the guys who date abroad are not the types of men these women would really want (which fwiw is also changing in an increasingly globalizing world where traveling, moving abroad etc. becomes more attainable), they still don't like the message it sends. they don't want to compete with women in other countries who often have more traditional views on relationships, weigh less, are more open to age gaps and so on. even guys who don't date foreign women will eventually hear about some other guy who married a foreign wife and gets more for less which can increase these men's expectations too.

women simply don't want any of that - they want to be loved just the way they are, no matter what, without having to compete and without having to be and do what men actually want. and of course they want partners who 'add to their lives' as you'll frequently hear, they don't want to settle, they don't want a guy who does less (unless he's very desirable). there's also an element of misandry and not wanting to see men happy/winning, wanting to tear down the patriarchy and so on with the feministas.

Italian guy comes NYC, his dating options are much better than in Naples. Mediterranean men are seen as very masculine & handsome in Western culture.

Take a guy from Pakistan, and he will not get a boost. Rarely do white women find South Asian guys attractive. The same was true for East Asian guys until the last decade or so, when anime/geek culture started to become more mainstream.

Latin American man here. I'm all for passport bros in my home country. I follow some on Twitter and encourage them to do it every time I can.

Don't know for other developing regions, but Latin American women have become extremely materialistic to the point they expect us to be as rich as American/European men, effectively pricing us out of the dating market.

It's been a month since I've arrived in Europe, and I'm so glad that I did. Now I can look for my future wife.

So my conclusion is that the optimal pairings are that we "switch around".

For whatever reason, it's looked down upon for men to get access to dating/sex "too easily", amd passport bros are an example of this.

Another example is when women flirt with a mentally disabled man it considered "cute", but if a man did that to a woman, he would be looked at as a disgusting freak. It has to do with "punching down".

Also, passport bros are a legitimate threat to the control women have on the dating market. There are enough women in the "3rd world" to supply every man in the "1st world" with a wife. The man 20 year old man who makes 40k a year may be unattractive to most American women, but there are beautiful women in Venezuela living off 2k a year who would marry that American man tomorrow. Women know is men figure it out, it will be a massive dating crisis for women, not men. They could essentially give women a taste of their own medicine, and "only date women with a double DD bra size", and women will know what men under 6ft were talking about.

I can't speak for Southeast Asia, but in Latin America, having light skin is a major boon to one's SMV, and not just for foreigners (it's also interesting to compare the appearance of the presidents of Latin American countries to the appearance of the average people in those countries).

In Mexico, for example, where I met my wife and ended up moving indefinitely, families will joke about their children marrying someone lighter than them to "improve the race." I'm not saying there aren't deeply unfortunate implications to all this, or that it's not a legacy of colonialism and the ongoing privileged status that the descendants of the colonizers have with respect to the descendants of the colonized, but regardless of its source, I do think that Latin American women often find light-skinned foreign men attractive in a completely genuine and non-transactional way.

It also helps that the average Mexican man is, what, 5'6", so me being 5'7" didn't count against me in Mexico the way it would in the U.S. (and I assume the rest of the Anglosphere and Europe as well).

I met my wife in 2011, long before the term "passportbro" existed. She's older than I am and had a higher level of education when we met (now we're even, vertically speaking, since we both have an MA, but she has two BAs while I only have one).

EDIT: I also think many people underestimate the power that looking exotic has to inflate one's attractiveness. For example, when I first came to Mexico, I flirted with a woman who was very short and dark-skinned with indigenous features; everyone insisted she was ugly, but I didn't see it, and they asked me why I was spending time with her when I could date any kind of woman I wanted here.

I think this concept might also explain the phenomenon I've seen in the U.S. where fat, low-class white women somehow manage to date black men who are much more attractive than any white men who would be willing to date them.

I feel like there has to be an evopsych explanation as to why someone who is deemed unattractive where everyone looks the same as them can look attractive in a place where they are considered exotic. Maybe the opportunity to diversify the gene pool makes people overlook features that would normally be considered less than ideal?

I'm a non-western man.

My main problem with passport bros is mostly that they are delusional. They think that western women are extremely materialistic and corrupted by feminism or whatever, and that by dating in other countries they get access to uncorrupted virtuous women.

The reality is that women almost everywhere have been completely westernized decades ago, and what they are getting aren't better women, but women that treat them better because they perceive passport bros to be higher status due to their money and sometimes skin color.

I have no issue with them doing whatever it is they are doing as long as everyone involved is a consenting adult and no coercion is involved, but I find "the west has fallen" political vibe they have to be extremely cringe.

Passport bros makes most sense in the case of racial or religious preferences, in my opinion. I can see how, as a white guy, my options in the USA don’t feel limited, because Hispanic, Asian, and black women don’t really do anything to avoid me. I imagine if you’re a person of color with a specific uncommon religion, you’re going to have maybe 3 options where ever you currently live, but if you go to a certain country, the “average person” will be exactly like you.

I think of it as more "traditional" marriage I guess? For women in the past marriage was an economic proposition. Realistically for women in other countries where the US dollar is very strong a foreign man's mid salary from a western country can support her and her relatives. She can provide a comfortable life for her parents, cousins, and children if she has them so she's making the best choice for her. So long as the man is honoring these financial obligations and treating her well I don't really see anything wrong with it.

I do feel a bit sad they can't marry for love but a man taking care of your family financially is just a different type of love and sacrifice and it's not my place to judge a woman for making the best choice for her. Its not that women don't want men to be happy, it's that women want women to be happy. I like that I was able to commit to a man for love. Not because I needed his money. Though I do understand marrying for love is a historically more recent concept.

I think that if someone seeks out relationships in which they have a lot of power over their spouse, that reflects badly on him or her. Not every "passport bro" (or, for that matter, "passport sis") is looking for or enters a relationship with a sharply uneven power dynamic, but since "passporting" is one of the best ways to get a spouse who can be treated as a subordinate or an employee and is less free to fight with, leave, or displease you than you are you are to do the same, it's understandable that the practice gets a bad rap. "Passport-y" relationships that don't have this problem are no problem at all.

They dislike passport bros because these men bad mouth western women mostly, and partly because the perception is that they mistreat these women (although I think that it's more the first than the second that bothers them because I think that western women only care about women in developing countries in a very abstract sense).

Most people don't like being insulted. I know that I don't like reading general misandry even though I know that most of it (hopefully all of it) doesn't apply to me. I think that women don't want the men whom they perceive as nasty or as manipulators being happy, but if it's some guy who is dating an age appropriate foreign woman who he is treating well, then I'm sure that most women don't have a problem with this.

The problem with being a Passport Bro is that these people are generally trash, entitled, and at times borderline pedophiles.

There's absolutely no problem in dating or marrying someone from a different country. There are times when someone will be perceived more attractive in some other country than their own. However, the core idea behind this Passport Bro movement is taking advantage of a stronger currency and target someone who is in a weaker position. It's not about being happy, it's rather seeking out disadvantaged women who will use you for money or a ticket out of their country and then call her gold digger when she does it.

Not really. Most genuinely try to find deep connection with one another and it simply works out because of it. There’s no hate. I actually believe that men should actively be looking for their future wives and dating married if that’s what they want. But most don’t and they usually travel to live out degen, perverted lifestyles that put vulnerable, impoverished, desperate women at risk.

The intention is negative and you can tell by how they talk about women in their home country. But nowadays many of the ladies who date these men know the game and are tricking on passport bros so it’s not that easy or cheap anymore. They’re running as soon as they get their papers too.

Exploiting is inherently a negative word. I generally agree. It’s not as predator as people make it sound, but I do not agree that there’s inherently nothing wrong with exploitation. You make that point as if it’s completely natural for people to exploit each other in the realm of dating, and I do not agree that’s the case. You must agree that there is a power dynamic in these relationships which could be exploited much more greatly than your average western relationships differences. There’s also clear legal elements of citizenship that may be on the table which further increase the risks. Sure you could say in the west there are relationships where one party makes more than the other is also exploitative, But the legal ways out of this are much more protected than in a passport relationship. I don’t fault people for looking at this power dynamic and disproving of it even if on the surface a couple is happy. It’s the same way people frown on paying undocumented workers cash Even if the worker themselves is very grateful for employment, it’s just an avenue of open potential for exploitation.

The thing is, a tiny minority of the men who are passport bro's, are looking for a traditional wife. Most just want to experience the dating life as a rich man. Since their dollar goes a lot long further in a poor country, then in a western country.
