It's a pretty barbaric practice when you think about it. Just think of it in a vacuum. There's a newborn baby and the very first thing we do is cut into the most sensitive part of the body. Just insane to think that's okay for a modern, developed species to continue to practice.
The health benefits don't out weigh the risks. It's a surgical procedure. A low risk external one, but one that has risks non-the-less.
- All justifications in general fail to justify the risks that come with surgery in my opinion (Religion, cosmetic, conformity, health, etc).
All female versions are banned, including the male equivalent version that just cuts into the folds. Equality?
It hasn't been study extensively, but there's some indication there's a link between being circumcised and reduced sensation and pain tolerance. Which makes sense since you're removing thousands of nerve endings and replacing a section with scar tissue.
And finally consent. It's a newborn baby. It can't say yes or no to the procedure.

Cutting a baby girl (or even a ceremonial pinprick to draw blood) is considered a human rights violation, on the basis that a baby can't consent.

Comparable practices done to boys are not only legal, but relatively commonplace outside of religious communities. The alleged health benefits of the practice don't hold up to scrutiny (with the exception of the tiny percentage of babies with phimosis), meaning that it is a procedure that removes otherwise healthy tissue, for no medical benefit, from a baby (who, obviously, can't give consent, and is too small to safely give anaesthetics to).

If an adult wants to consent to the procedure, that's on them. Don't do it to kids.

Another take- I’m a woman. When I was pregnant, the idea that I would rearrange my entire LIFE, diet, exercise, sleep, activities, travel, etc - carefully considering any and all behaviors or influences that MIGHT increase the risk of the health of my baby - no second hand smoke, fruits or veggies left out on a platter, sushi, horse back riding, snow boarding, roller coasters, wine, certain cheese, can’t travel in 3rd trimester, blah blah yes I live in California lol. Basically my every single decision was made to give my baby the healthiest brain and body I possibly could.

The concept that within days of my baby being born, this baby that I painstakingly and lovingly grew in my body that kicked me mercilessly. The baby I would go on to lose sleep for a year in paranoid perpetual semi-consciousness. The baby I bought a car seat weighing 50lb (or so it felt) to cradle this amazing precious baby in protect it in the low probability risk of car crash.

The idea that someone wanted to look me in the face, explain that they were going to deliberately strap my son down like a starfish and slice a piece of him off, already just had my motherly instinct somewhere along “righteous indignation”. The perform that act in his sexual organ, potentially decreasing the pleasure of sex for his entire life? Murderous tendencies began to arise.

My husband was actually pro circumcision. I was prepared to go to war over this but eventually we found out I was carrying a girl, which, THANK GOD for some reason does not also default to genital mutilation in the particular culture I’m in.

So- there’s a mothers perspective.

Look at it this way, if 60% of American males are circumcised, and there are 165mil males in america, that means there were 99million circumcisions carried out.

If a circumcision had a .01% chance of going wrong, then that's still 10000 circumcisions.

The actual number is between .2% and .6%, which means it's between 200k and 600k botched circumcisions.

That's a very big number for an UNNECESSARY procedure

$403 x 5 days a week = $2,015

$2,015 x 50 weeks = $100,750 a year.

The foreskin serves a multiple purposes. It helps with gliding motions and protects the head from both dehydration and foreign contaminants.
The foreskin contains a great deal of nerve endings, which increases sensation. Circumcised glans will also harden and callus, which also reduces sensation.
Circumcision is most often forced on newborns for non-sense reasons that are all demonstrably false. It's abuse specifically targeted towards infants. It can also certainly cause some degree of emotional/psychological harm to the child as well.
There's a lot of toxic reasoning that is used to justify the practice of circumcision, like this idea that natural penises are ugly or smell. Mutilated, discolored and scarred penises are most certainly not more esthetically pleasing than natural penises, and every man should be cleaning his penis regularly.
It's unnecessary mutilation. Not only is it inherently barbaric but can also lead to other defects and complications.
It's often pushed as a remedy, despite being an overly extreme measure. In cases where some men might have excessive foreskin, a more restrained approach, such as adjustments instead of full removal, should be considered.
Men deserve bodily integrity too and dicks aren't just commodities that exist for women to objectify.

But we want the man to have the right to chose any surgical alteration to his body. if you are cutting into the skin and removing it on a child... the child isnt able to give consent. If you do it on a baby sometimes not even with an actual doctor or sedation given, its criminal - except its not in most countries.

The first twin had his dink fried to a crisp, parents took the decision to raise him as a girl. Poor guy killed himself in 2004 I think. I couldn't be circumcised at birth since I went to the NICU and by the time I was psychically able to, the doctor didn't want to cut off too much so now I'm stuck somewhere between a crew-neck and a turtle-neck on my pp. It's pretty cruel to do in my opinion. Just teach boys how to pull the skin back and wash it. I've had to do it my whole life and I'd much rather do that than lose a bunch of sensation and potentially be harmed by circumcision. On the bright side of things though, it's always been a fun conversation to have with girlfriends and flings in the past because it usually involves them wanting to look at it among other things. Anyways, my fiance and I decided not to circumcise our son because of the huge amount of feeling lost and the risk of injury

As a labor and delivery nurse, I loathe the practice because I've been forced to be there and see how awful it is. I now refuse to partake and luckily they're rare here in California in the hospital setting. My son is uncut and can decide what to do with his own penis when he is older. When parents ask if we provide them I tell them "since they're not medically indicated and it's just a cultural choice, most insurance doesn't cover it so the docs here don't do them anymore." Most of the time, I'm the first person to tell them there's no medical cause to cut their babies.

It's a very multi faceted. But the gist is that it is not what it claims to be, is almost always exclusively cosmetic and has a high probability of negative side effects. From an ethical perspective its effectively a violation of the Hypocratic oath.

In a lot of the cases it is done either without the informed concent of the individual (during childhood) or due to societal pressure. I would like to see some properly good studies going into detail on how this trauma is carried into the individual's sub-concious thoughts and its impact on other disfunctional behaviour.

I would like to also find out if a preference towards circumcision is a useful tool to screen for psychopathy and sadism.

Had I not been circumcised I think sex would have been better, more pleasurable, and I would have had less hair growth on the shaft of my penis. We don’t have a problem with Circumcision exactly, what we do have a problem with is when it is forced onto people for no medical reasons. Such as in your case, you most likely did not need to be circumcised like majority of men, but it was forced onto you against your will. That is what we have a problem with mainly.

Circumcision is a medically unnecessary procedure often forced onto infants and children for no medical reasons, meaning that a child is having an unnecessary procedure forced onto them where they are have part of their genitals cut off for no good reason.

Now about 98% of Circumcisions are unnecessary, phimosis like in your case should very rarely lead to Circumcision, since according to the CPS, by age 17 95% of boys will be able to retract their foreskin, 80% of that 5% who cannot will be able to retract with the help of creams and stretching. That means about 1% or even less of men would require Circumcision for that reason. But we are seeing doctors forcing it on people, or telling people they need to be circumcised even though they do not.

This is why we are against this practice in general unless there is a serious medical reason and all else fails, which is actually uncommon.

This should just be something left up to the person who is the owner of the genitals themselves, since it’s their body and Circumcision is for the most part completely unnecessary.

Just wanna add my 2 cents.. I was born with phimosis but my parents refused to get the procedure done, on the basis that doctors told them it was minor and It could get better over time, or steroid creams may fix the issue.

It never bothered me growing but it did get worse and I eventually had to get circumsised in my early 20s. Despite that, I was forever grateful for the choice over my own body. That small gesture alone meant a lot to me and I'm glad I had the choice. - This is the very thing we see millions across the world protesting for right now, however, doesn't extend to this topic unfortunately..

On a side note, a see a lot of guys arguing that 'sex feels fine' being circumsised, but yet they had it done at birth so they know no different. I experienced intercourse both before and after and can categorically say it feels worse after the procedure... Knowing this fact, why would anybody want put their sons through that when they're only 1 day old is beyond me...

Besides the fact that there's been scientific proof that there are nerve endings in that skin that has been forcefully removed. Though some claim otherwise. It's unnecessary genital mutilation for no good reason. In fact is there have been many infant deaths even with current technology and medical advances. The problem I have with it, is that in the vast majority of cases where someone is circumcised is that it was done not for health reason, but more a social or religious one, and when they were extremely young and could not give their consent.

Bottom line is that someone forcibly removed a part of an individuals body that did not need to be removed. That to me counts as mutilation.

If someone wants to be circumcised when they are older and are in full possession of the facts that is their choice, which is the key part of the whole thing.

Uncircumcised here, I had terrible phimosis as a kid. Really painful and nasty. For those who can't clean under the foreskin due to smaller openings, and or skin still attached to the head, the argument isn't bullshit. I personally wished I had circumcision as a kid as it would have saved me a lot of time and pain from dealing with infections.

I think the main reason for ragging on the practice is because of the fact it removes the frenulum, thus causing possible issues down the line, but it's mainly because a lot of people get their kids circumcised immediately because of fear of hygiene issues, and also partially how kids pee (you know what I'm talking about. No pulling back the foreskin when pissing) and the fear of a possible infection down the line which is valid, but can be too reactionary at times when it could be solved by teaching the kid to "peep the banana" for lack of a better word, and wash under the foreskin when bathing.

I'm angry about this because I was not consulted and at an age where I couldn't even speak properly, a part of my body was cut off in a way that could never be fixed.

One reason to hate circumcision is the tradition of Haredi Jews that perform "oral suction" on babies to draw the blood of the cut penis out. There's also a risk of spreading herpes to infants by doing this. Check it out on Wiki.

I’m circumcised as well but it was a medical treatment thing and to be far I was like 5 or 6 at the time when it happened. Collar was a bit tight and caused pain so snip snip.

No right thinking person hates men just because they're circumcised, but we can be against the practice of performing this on children and babies without their consent.

There’s literally Reddit groups (r/phimosis for one) full of guys that have plenty of problems with their dungeon wurms.

I’d be traumatized to have to go through any of that as an adult. No phimosis, no weird ‘ballooning’ when I pee. No ‘dick farts’ (that’s apparently an activity you guys do, someone called it ‘dueefing’?) My sex life has been more than plentiful and pleasurable, and honestly I’m sick of this narrative being pushed in a way that people that are cut since birth have to feel bad or something.

Circumcised not by choice, both my parents were hygienic and kept me well, but my forehead developed puss and I had phimosis and also the foreskin wouldn't pull back this was around 7 years of age, the process of my parents going back and forth to decide to go through with it was a few days(like 2) I remember vividly the mass discomfort and pain in my penis throughout the days all the way up until the operation was over and I healed. Mind you, the healing process was fucking painful. In my family I'm one of 3 boys, the only one that was circumcised due to infection. I'm 32 now and have 2 boys both of which I decided to go through with for their health in the future. It's always been very curious topic for myself to see what people say. As I thank my mom for going through with it as for reasons it helped my life. Even though it wasn't by choice I believe it was necessary. As for my boys I've done so for their health as well.

I don't really know why they want to turn circumcision into a drama. It is not worth something you cannot recover. Some would say their body integrity was violated or that they were mutilated, and that their sex life is ruined. For me, like most Americans, M27 I was circumcised and live with it without complaints or issues. I do not have any animosity with my parents who thought it was best for me and the family that I was circumcised. Maybe I was circumcised because he was circumcised. My brother is circumcised as well. Good thing we all have the same appearance!

Well because here in the US, it's usually done when you're born before you can decide for yourself if you'd want that.

If there's an actual medical reason to do it then, that's one thing. But there usually isn't.

Whether or not to have an irreversible body mod done should be the sort of decision a person makes for themselves!

So if a guy decides to get that done, there's really nothing wrong with that.

Simply put: it is genital mutilation that a cereal company or owner, I forget which, started doing saying it would prevent masturbation in addition to whatever bland cereal they sold. It’s mainly popular in North America at this point. I will say it does remove something you’d have to clean, but for the most part it does cause pain to your as a baby to have it done. I am also circumcised and I can say it may have delayed but didn’t prevent masturbation.

The first issue is body autonomy. Unless there is medical need, people have autonomy over their own body and medical decisions always go to the patient themselves (later in life) to decide for their own body.

When you're circumcised, the tip of your penis is pretty much always in contact with your shorts or underwear or even other parts of your body. It loses sensation over time. Uncircumcised is covered/protected all the time. The sensory nerves are not constantly overstimulated. Whatever sensations you feel are what it's supposed to feel like. Circumcision takes away from men. I'm also circumcised and Im okay with it but I would love to know what the alternative feels like

If it’s done for aesthetics or religion it is a non medical procedure. Things are attached for a reason unless they go wrong. Why out a baby through unnecessary surgery with the associated complications. It’s like a father saying aww ok let’s go ahead and cut my infant daughter’s labia because it may not be that nice for her future partner to look at. Its fucking absurd. If it’s medically required then the risk vs benefit argument comes in. If not then it is utterly abhorrent that women get to choice whether their son has a foreskin or not.

No good reason exists to expose a new born child to that pain i their genitals, it probably causes connections in the brain that then never go away.

I didn't know circumcision was hated, though. I did it as an adult at 18 years old by the decision because friends told me that it prevents infection and many problems. My brother has many issues after forty years old, so I guess I was right. Also, it helps in sex because I last longer. After all, your gland becomes less sensible. I regret it, though.

Idk. Probably because the baby didn’t have a say in the matter. Every dude I’ve talked to about it is glad he was circumcised. When I had my sons, I left the decision up to my husband and he wanted them snipped. They both came back from the procedure fully asleep 10 minutes after they left, and were fully healed within a week with no obvious discomfort. Also my grandfather had to get circumcised in his 30’s due to an infection. It’s not a bill I’d die on, but I don’t think it’s a huge deal.
