Look at it this way:

Lets say guys find 80% of women around their age attractive. You organically meet a guy, you become friends, you develop a liking for him and 4/5 times he is open for something more.

Sure there isn't anything special about him finding you attractive "men will bang anything yada yada.." but the special part is that he also sees you as attractive on top of the connection you already have. From here is where you can actually start exploring whether the two of you might also be compatible as romantic partners.

Now lets say for women only the top 20% of men pass as attractive. I organically meet a woman, we become friends, I catch feelings... 4/5 times she only wants to be best buddies with me. No room for exploration here, my looks didn't get the foot in the door.
